http://saltcityhoops.com/thinking-out-loud-trade-deadline-edition/
Rudy Gobert leads the team in TS%. It doesn’t mean that Rudy is the Jazz’s best offensive player, because you can’t draw up a play for Rudy to dunk every possession. Context does matter. But I would argue that Rudy’s incredible efficiency does make up for a lot of his offensive deficiencies. It’s super valuable to have a big man who can dunk anything within 8 feet of the hoop. It puts tremendous pressure on a defense. I wouldn’t argue that Rudy is the Jazz’s best offensive player, but he might be their best offensive weapon.
Not to mention his passing, screens and offensive boards. And most people think he sucks on offense! :lol
If the Jazz replaced Trevor Booker with a player like Ed Davis, they would take a big leap.
Not sure it's that simple. It's hard to quantify what Booker brings to the table with his relentless energy. Only reason I'd be looking to trade him is because he's probably gone in the off-season though I hope he'll be back as the 5th or 6th big. I do like Ed Davis though!
Almost all of the trade chatter around the Jazz is whether they will address that need. Jeff Teague, George Hill, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, Patrick Beverly, and soon to be Ricky Rubio, are some of the names that get tossed around the most in regards to the Jazz.
Could have signed Beverly in the off-season and didn't.
Jared Dudley – To me, Dudley is still the perfect mix of price, ability, leadership, etc. If the Jazz don’t swing a trade for him, he should be high on their free agency list this offseason.
My guess is his age keeps him off their radar. He'd be their oldest guy. They seem to want to get even younger if anything.

Omri Casspi – I still love Casspi’s ability to be an under the radar acquisition that gets hot enough every few Jazz games to make close battles into blowouts. Great shooting season and adequate defense.

Be a nice pick-up. Not sure they can get him from a team they are battling for a playoff spot with and at what cost?
Darren Collison – Collison is not a point guard in the traditional sense. He would be a super efficient version of what Trey Burke brings off the bench. I would still start Neto, but Collison would lift the bench to much greater heights. If I were the Jazz, I would rather offer the Kings Trey Burke, Alec Burks, and a future first round pick for Collison and Casspi, than any of the above mentioned point guards. I do understand the opposite view though.
Might be a bit on the old side too though he's close to the age of their oldest guys. He's a proven starter. Seems like he could be had. Be hard to see Alec go but it looks like a pretty good deal.
Channing Frye – Frye is getting out of the age range, but he would cost very little to acquire (other than his remaining 3 years on his contract). Trey Lyles is ready to get consistent minutes, but he’s not ready to give a consistent impact on the game yet. Frye, Lyles, Gobert and Favors, would be a balance of position, know-how, and offensive spacing.
Too old. Someday I imagine they'll look at some older vets but right now Withey is too old at 25 to play over Lyles at 19 despite being the better player. The 3 years isn't ideal either but probably doable. Also a weak rebounder.
Future 2nd Round Pick – This would come along with some salary from New York, Miami, or Chicago. Probably the least exciting, but also most likely of all Jazz deadline-day acquisitions. But 2nd round picks can be beneficial for the Jazz, even if they just turn into cash one day.
Most likely scenario. They opened up a roster spot too so I imagine they are looking at salary dumps if nothing else.
in terms of players, the Jazz don't have much to offer, if they want to make a deal.
Disagree. Withey is a 2nd tier rim protector and the rest of his game is nice too and he could definitely help someone possibly even start. I think the rest of their team could too and all have favorable contracts not to mention one of the best players not in the league in Tomic. Look at what Charlotte just gave up for Lee. Jazz could have easily made a better offer than that if Memphis wanted to help them and the Jazz wanted to make a move which I'm not sure they do!
The Jazz currently have two roster spots open and a little over $7 million to play with, which means they can potentially absorb a contract as well.
They have one spot but they could cut Withey and Johnson for not much money. Non-guaranteed next year. Booker also a FA after the year if they had to cut him it's only a couple months salary though a bit more than the other two.
Reports had the Jazz pursuing Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague. But league sources inform the Tribune the Jazz are no longer looking in that direction.
Too expensive for their taste I imagine.

Something I've been doing with Jazz games recently is watching specifically Gobert instead of the ball, and it is incredible the spacing he gives on both offense and defense, he's got the overall spacing game down.

That was really careless what he said about Utah.
-
Re: 2016 All-Star break/Trade deadline
But in all honestly, I think he wouldn't mind playing anywhere else besides Houston because we are not utilizing him anywhere near to his full potential.
If you were to ask him again I'd think he would reconsider that statement. It's one thing to be with a great organization like the Denver Nuggets and be playing winning basketball, it's another thing to be with an unstable roster like the Houston Rockets and playing extremely disappointing basketball.

Be a great place to get his drinking under control. He might feel different now. Can't believe the Jazz have interest really with their history. I'd want Pleiss in the deal.

I'd be PO'd if they traded Ingles. Good glue guy to have. Pleiss would be the way to go.

That could be the final piece of the deal... Actually never mind, I just read that his contract is worth like 12 million, the Jazz either don't have that type of money to throw around, or lack the willingness to do so.
-
Re: 2016 All-Star break/Trade deadline
I wouldn't mind Pleiss/Burke.
Lawson just isn't working and the market is looking bad for a player with his legal history. I think the main thing out of this is that Houston wants to shed money so that we have the cap space to make a move in Free Agency.
Us bringing in Burke also gives us a PG to work with and develop, nothing wrong with more youth.

Jazz are $7 million under the cap, so they can absorb a fair bit and Lawson's contract is non-guaranteed for next year, so if he doesn't fit they can cut him for nothing.
-
Re: 2016 All-Star break/Trade deadline
Denver Lawson before he had trouble is arguably the Jazz's best player.
If Trey/Pleiss is the price it's well worth the gamble. I don't see it working but worth the price to try.
If he can come and be a more dynamic Trey coming off the bench I'd be happy.

Good, I prefer Trey anyway.
In other news, the Jazz just traded a 2nd round pick for Shelvin Mack of the Hawks. He's not Jeff Teague but we'll see what he can do
-
Re: 2016 All-Star break/Trade deadline
I would have liked Lawson but would have been surprised if they'd done it.
Mack should be another good young vet in the locker room with playoff experience for the stretch run and maybe compete for time at the end of the rotation. Non guaranteed next year. Hayward's college teammate. Snyder coached him.
Not sure I wouldn't prefer Erick Green though. Liked what I saw from him.
What is to worry about right now is Trey Burke. The team has added another point guard, we're not at four, and one of them needs to go. And that guy will be Burke. So I expect more Jazz deals to happen today.
They have 3 healthy and Trey is more of a shooting guard really.
and on paper, he's really not close to Trey Burke. He's not a good NBA player right now. Jazz fans hate Trey and think he is horrible. I can only imagine if they will be objective enough to see how good Mack is (or is not). For his career, though, Mack is a 5.3 ppg guy who can dish a bit, 2.7 apg. He's not a shooter. Not at all. Which is one of the things Snyder needs from his point guys who invariably are spotting up more and more as wings handle the ball.
Mack will be a better 3rd stinger in my opinion than Burke would have been. And that's really it.
If you look at his numbers on a minute basis he is a lot closer to Burke. His 3 point shot has been closer to what Burke is shooting most of his career. Sounds like he has a nice mid range game. He's a better playmaker and defender than Trey. He rebounds well for a little guy. Hits FT's which is nice on this team. He is bigger than Neto and Burke. The fact that Atlanta runs the same stuff as the Jazz he should be able to fit in right away. He could definitely be in the mix for PT and Trey's job for next year anyway.

Re: 2016 All-Star break/Trade deadline
http://saltcityhoops.com/shelvin-mack-the-newest-jazzman/
Better description of him here:
He is a heady point guard who has posted a decent 28.3 assist percentage and a 2.83 assist-to-turnover ratio for his career. He will take care of the ball and be a nice addition to the bench, giving Utah some much-needed depth. He has shown the ability to finish at the basket1. Mack can consistently knock down the mid-range jumper, but is inconsistent from downtown. He is not afraid to mix it up defensively, and uses his body well on that end.
Sounds like to me he's more of a pg but could probably guard some 2's if they put him in with Burke. Snyder hasn't wanted to play small with Burke and Neto though.
