I don't think any economist thinks running large, growing trade deficits is a good thing. And this trade war will only last if Mexico and Canada don't make more concessions. Funny thing is, historically both Canada and China have had higher tariffs than the US while conveniently maintaining a big trade surplus with the US in their favor. Trump has leverage to get the US a better deal, unfortunately he's in a more multicultural, divided country than China and Mexico, and they are betting the partisan politics, and liberals weak stomach for confrontation, will force Trump to cave. But if he does succeed in getting the US a better trade deal you can bet your bottom f*cking dollar the libs are sticking with that deal just like Biden kept ALL the Trump tariffs on China

The first thing, and what Mexico I believe said they are willing to do, is place massive tariffs on Chinese vehicles coming into their country. Also pay their workers significantly more in certain manufacturing sectors which makes Mexico a little less competitive, but great for the extra taxes collected(I'm unfamiliar with the Mexico tax code but I'm assuming they have tiered tax brackets like the US) and a big boost those local communities. And of course agreements to simply buy more American goods

Sheinbaum and her predecessor have been raising the minimum wage though, AMLO raised it more than 100% during his six year term, amidst Covid no less...and I don't agree with putting tariffs on Chinese cars, that's Mexico and China's business and the US should butt out. It's like Mexico asking for the US to add tariffs to other US trading partners to get a benefit from it. I have seen a ton of Chinese makers here, they look nice and they're more affordable, BYD, Geely, Foton, JAC, HAW, Zeekr, Chirey, MG, Jetour to name a few. Been thinking about purchasing one now for a while...

I don't believe in lowering corporate taxes anymore than we already did. I'm actually very fiscally conservative and believe that we need a robust system that allows business to flow freely. The free market is what we should have. But in order to have capitalism, you have to have a stable middle class.
Republicans are liars who claim they're for the American people yet time and time again they fail us. The tariffs only increase the cost of goods and services while wages lag and middle class taxes remain where they are. This is counterintuitive.
