Re: No one's buying Jordan shoes anymore
I'd much rather wear a nice colorway of Jordan 1 Lows than fugly Vans or Chuck Taylors. Chuck Taylors had their time as the iconic retro shoe but they're terrible quality, I think the Jordan 1 has replaced them as the iconic retro shoe of today.
Chuck Taylor had their time? It’s a timeless sneaker that’s still worn today. lol They are worn more than the Jordan 1’s today. And forever will be. Not sure what made you say you think Jordan 1’s replaced them as the iconic retro.

Re: No one's buying Jordan shoes anymore
Nobody even wore Jordan 1s in the 90s and 00s & they look too similar to AF1 which came out before Jordan 1. They re-released in the mid 90's and didn't sell out, nobody really cared for them. The popularity of Jordan 1s came back in the 2010's.
Chuck Taylors came out over 100 years ago and people still wear them today, they are more iconic. In middle school around 2004/2005 me and my friends all wore chucks and were known as the "chuck crew". :lol
I would say Air Force 1 is the most iconic shoe today. People have consistently worn them for over 40 years.
Because the 80s became the new retro cool ... the 1950s like really who gives a crap at this point. A nice clean pair of Air Jordan 1 Lows is way nicer than Chuck Taylors, same with a lot of the retro low cut adidas staples. Chuck Taylors were "retro" in like the 90s/2000s ... at some point you go from "retro" to just plain old. They're a terrible shoe too, awful foot support.
But the numbers don't lie either, overall Jordan Brand sales have exploded in the last 5 years even ... from $3.6 mill-ish in revenue in 2020 up to $7.3 billion in 2025. Obviously Nike is going to see that and start producing more Jordan sneakers, that oversaturates the market so you don't see things like instant sell-outs like before and then sneaker head Youtubers think there's a problem.
There's no problem, Nike is just making more Jordan models/retros and shipping them in higher quantities because the sales have doubled for Jordan as a brand while the rest of Nike has declined in that time.
Any business is going to throw more behind any segment that has doubled in revenue in only 5 years though. That's monstrous growth overall even if one quarter or one snippet of a year is down from the previous year. Obviously at some point the growth had to slow though, the number of people that can keep dropping $200+ for retro basketball sneakers in some new weird colorway has a ceiling.
I think Nike is very, very happy with $7 billion+ in Jordan revenue though. Who really cares either if a shoe "sits" ... like being able to walk into a mall and just buy a pair of shoes you want is how it's *supposed* to work, lol. It's not supposed to work like no one buy hoarders/collectors snap up shoes for an instant sell out and then charge a 50-300% upcharge on GOAT or Stock X. That's insane.

Really depends, lots of Jordan 1 lows come with 3 different colors which kill the shoe to me. If it's just two different simple colors that go together on the low 1s, then I would agree. But Chuck Taylors have stood the test of time for 100+ years and are still worn today. Jordan 1s have only been super popular for 15 years or so.
Retro low top 1s also suck. There should be no Jumpman on a low top 1.

I agree. The chucks are timeless and we will always see them more than Jordans because even soccer moms wear chucks. And I love the Jordan 1s 1000x more than chucks, but not the low tops, those look just like dunks for twice the price. AJ11 is the best sneakers of all time imo. And you nailed my exact problem with modern sneaker culture. So many colors on one shoe and so many colorways yet we can't get simple color combinations that make them more compatible with casual clothes. Not to mention the designs are too futuristic and our clothing is still a decade behind lol.

True. Damn near all the "retro" and some of the "OG" low top 1s look like dunks.
Only the "85" version of low tops look like the actual original low top 1, like the shoe in the vid I posted.
The problem is, the 85 low top 1s are super limited compared to Retro and OG 1s. Not a lot of pairs, choices are limited. Smh.
I personally don't believe the 1s will stand the test of time because their design is too similar to other Nike shoes that came out before them, especially the AF1 which came out 3 years prior. Dunks and 1s came out in the same year.
I believe Chuck Taylor All-Star and Air Force 1 are the two most iconic shoes today, you could make a case for either.
Jordan 3 is my GOAT shoe though. They revolutionized the shoe game in ways the Jordan 1 did not and were the first Jordans to be designed by Tinker Hatfield, who is the GOAT shoe designer.

This is why I don't buy Jordan 4s. Most overpriced shoe on the market right now.

Re: No one's buying Jordan shoes anymore
Jordan 1’s came out in 85 and it’s 2025. Still being worn today. They will always stand the test of time to sneaker heads. Air Force 1’s and Chuck Taylor are just affordable and are about as casual of a sneaker you can get. You can’t just go out on a whim and grab some Trophy 1’s.

I mean it's a shoe from 1987 or whatever, obviously it's not going to have the performance of a modern shoe, no one buys Jordan Retros for that.
But given that, in his own testing he did jump higher in the Jordan 4 than his modern sneaker (gained 3/4 of an inch on a vertical leap), which is the literal definition of increasing performance. And he also admits it's a great looking shoe, which is why people buy it.
Nike charges $200+ because the market supports that price point, people are willing to pay it. People have been paying $200+ for Jordans for ages, Nike knows by and large they can get away with that price point, if anything just paying retail for Jordan retros is not bad, the norm for higher demand colorways/models is generally very quick sell out and then you're stuck with at least a markup of $75 or more on GOAT or StockX.

He also said it looks like it was designed by a kid with all the extra materials it has on it, like the extra eyelets and wings. :lol
I have no doubt they were in style to wear back then and many people rock them now, it looks nice, but I personally wouldn't wear them. A little too "loud" for me personally.
People also shit on the 4s for being notoriously uncomfortable. I cant spend over 200 on a shoe that make my feet hurt.

It's a shoe from 1987, they designed it for the time period it existed in, I doubt they had any idea people would still be wearing them and buying them in 2025. They could likely easily redesign it for comfort but then people would bitch and complain that it's not the original design.
Nike charges $200 a pop for them because they can and because of the fashion element of it.
Jordan Brand revenue going to $3 billion-ish range to over $7 billion in 5 years when the rest of the sneaker business has been generally on a decline tells you about everything you need to know. Nike if anything didn't properly exploit the Jordan Brand and left a lot of money on the table in the 2010s. Now they're making a lot more Jordan models/retros and releasing them in higher quantities because they've realized there was a lot of money they weren't capitalizing on there, but inevitably that means the hysteria of having to line up for shoes and bribe Footlocker employees to get on a wait list and all that nonsense is diminishing somewhat.
It's still a problem with some releases, they retroed the Jordan X Steel for the first time in a long time this year but massively undershipped it and those pairs just went straight to Stock X/GOAT for a $100+ mark up. Frustrating because that's really the Jordan retro I wanted most this year and it sold out instantly.
Also that dude's videos aren't that great. The Jordan 5 looks like a kids shoe really ... has he seen any modern shoes?

These look like they were designed by a 10 year old and make a Jordan 5's design look understated compared to what modern basketball shoes look like.
