To me tanking is playing guys that shouldnt be playing because you dont want to win. Jazz were playing williams last year when he should have been in gleague. Got fined for benching healthy lauri. Nba should be for proven nba players. Should be in gleague or elsewhere until they prove it
Som a coach should now be concerned with whether or not the FBI agrees with his substitutions?

Re: Chauncey Billiups and Rozier got arrested by the FBI on gambling charges.
Far as why gambling isn’t treated like being a crackhead or hair when addict? The lack of victims I suppose. At least when you’re rich. Rich drug addicts don’t get treated like crackheads either. They’re in movies and people pay to hear them sing about being addicted to drugs. They are elected to office.
A poor crackhead destroys his family. Charles Barkley can gamble as much as he wants. His family doesn’t suffer.
"Victims believed that they were sitting at a fair table," Tisch said. "Instead, they were cheated out of millions."
Text messages between the defendants as they allegedly carried out their scheme show that, in one such game in Las Vegas on April 2019, Billups was winning so many improbable hands with the help of a rigged shuffling machine that his overseers said he needed to lose on purpose to avoid being suspected of cheating.
Following another rigged game in October 2020, Billups was wired $50,000 for his participation, the memo states.
Drug abuse and prostitution. That’s nasty business. But Sheens business. You want the moral compass adjusted to that is funny. Folks like Barkley are criticized for being “dumb”, “stupid” gambling away his bread. Not sure we need to turn the energy up louder.
If you get arrested in an alcoholic or drug related situation the media and public trip.
Tiger Woods is a good example.

According to Windhorst:
The indictment also alleged that Billups, WHILE COACH of the Blazers, tipped off some gambler that Lillard, who was listed as probable for an upcoming game, would not actually play. Lillard was indeed downgraded to questionable LATER in the day and in fact did not play.

What do you think was said about Malik Beasley? Honest opinion. In fact there’s a thread here made about it. Wasn’t no defending in there. Not many doubling back about judging him when charges were dropped. Yet he lost millions. So I’m not getting it.
Billups is getting the benefit of the doubt due to being a high character guy. Tiger woods situation is apples and oranges. People take DUI seriously because you’re putting other peoples lives in danger. You being involved in a gambling situation isn’t the same. First we need details of the ordeal. DUI is cut and dry. Folks lost lives behind drunk drivers. And it doesn’t have to involve athletes avg joe on avg joe tragedies. A mal carrier earlier this week was killed when a drunk driving leaving an accident sped away. He obliterated the mail truck and carrier. Who was a former marine. 58yrs gone because someone at 11am was drunk. So yeah why give Tiger or anyone grief for a DUI. And not Billups who probably (speculating without any facts) was used as a face behind a bigger scam. Haven’t had time to read the latest

OJ was connected to a mob figure named Joey Ipollito. OJ was involved in all this same kind of underworld stuff. Gambling, drugs, prostitution, extortion, scams, etc.

I feel like the NBA has been hiding a shit ton of scandals in recent years.
Remember that one ref Eric Lewis who favored the Celtics during games in 2023? Fans started to get suspicious and he conveniently retired after the season was over.

Legend also says MJ’s dad was killed because of his degenerate gambling. Yup a victimless activity. lol.
A lot of good fix jobs when it comes to the “gambling mob world” scenarios.
Hard to believe what’s real when it comes to Rose, MJ, Donaghy, and everything now since gambling has been legalized.

Pablo Torre: Sources tell @pablofindsout Malik Beasley’s fate also hinges on DOJ announcement. And that MB was previously investigated and cleared by the NBA for “making a bet or two on another sport.” Source: “The NBA is under strict confidentiality but you can’t control the government”

Terry Rozier: Terry Rozier was never "cleared" by the federal government in this investigation, according to @pablofindsout 's reporting. Neither was Malik Beasley

What did everyone expect? Sports betting being made legal meant this story and who knows how many more in future were inevitable.
Did people really think only scrub two way contract role players would be corrupted? This is money and this is America. It also doesnt help that there is a gambling commercial every 5 seconds everywhere you look.

It’s weird because I don’t know if that shit is even legal out here.
Seeing a million ads for something that is illegal is bizarre.
Can’t think of many scenarios that happens. Maybe liquor ads in dry counties?

It’s usually legal wherever they are promoting. So if the platform is in a state where it’s legal. You’ll see the ads and them pushing free picks etc.

Re: Chauncey Billiups and Rozier got arrested by the FBI on gambling charges.
I'm baffled by comments elsewhere like "they're NBA players, how much more money do they need?". Which is a gross misunderstanding of not just greed but the human condition. It's not about gaining $50k, it's about the fact that if you have inside information of a sure thing, in some people minds they're LOSING money if they don't put money on it. That Sopranos episode is an example where Tony bets on whoever to win that game but can only put down x dollars. He's annoyed with Carmela because he could have used the money he gave her to make the win even bigger. He won but still thought he'd lost.
It's just as dumb as when people say "why he cheat on her with that bitch? his wife is way hotter". Because of the juice and it's a free lay that you can't turn down.
