[h=1]Would Donovan Mitchell really be a good fit for the New York Knicks?[/h]
No especially after signing Brunson but that is the beauty of James ****in' Dolan!
“In essence, he provides just about everything the Knicks hoped they might get from Kemba Walker last summer, only a hell of a lot more of it with seven fewer years of wear and tear on his body,” Devine wrote.
he's never been as good as Kemba was carrying a bad team in Charlotte. He is younger. Have fun NY!
“The ability to shoulder a massive offensive load — only (Luka) Doncic, (Trae) Young, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo posted a higher usage rate last season — makes Mitchell one of the most valuable weapons in the game,” Devine wrote.
Clarkson has a high usage too. Mitchell could average 35 a game but it's hard to imagine him carrying a team
During this year’s playoffs, Mitchell rated 91st in points allowed per chance among 98 players who defended at least 30 drives, according to Second Spectrum. He was also 85th out of 92 players who guarded at least 25 off-ball screens.
“It’s awfully tough to win it all if your best player is a defensive liability,” Devine wrote.
at least they'll have Mitchell Robinson and Thibs to throw under the bus in NY when Mitchell does what he does(or doesn't)
[h=1]Does tanking actually work in the modern NBA?[/h]
Depends on your objective I guess. Are the Jazz likely to get another statue that has only shown up in Utah about every 10 years(Stockton and Malone back to back)? No. Are they likely to have flexibility and have a chance at something grander? Sure. The thing that is different this time is Ainge. He's certainly better than anyone they've ever had by far. He gives you hope that he's going to nail a lot of draft picks which we've never seen in Utah
Yes. It probably does. Danny Ainge is intentionally clearing Utah’s roster of talented players that fit a team trying to win now and replacing them with young players and draft picks. Losing many games this season will likely be the targeted outcome, as it would raise the chances of getting a top pick in the upcoming draft. The 2023 NBA Draft is regarded as one of the best in many years, and Utah already has three first-round selections to make in it. They could get even more, depending on future trades.
I'd expect many more. Next draft is certainly what Danny is aiming for to accelerate the rebuild. Knicks have 3 or something next year right? Still should get some picks out of the other vets. Danny has to start having some fun at some point!
When the “Grit’n’Grind” era of the Memphis Grizzlies was winding down, the Grizzlies put on Marc Gasol and Mike Conley on the trading block. While they only received a couple of first-round picks in the Conley trade and none in the Gasol trade, they also got movable assets and flexibility. They embraced a quick tank, dropped into the lottery, and wound up with the number two overall pick. With that, they selected Ja Morant. Over this time frame, they also drafted Jaren Jackson Jr, Desmond Bane, and other key players. They grew together and organically created a playoff team. Last season, Memphis finished 2nd in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies are still very young and have higher heights they can reach, but it is clear that they’re building in the right direction.
they got bad which is the key to tanking and why they weren't able to do it for long last time when Gobert emerged unexpectedly. The Jazz picks for being bad will be the key not the picks from other teams. Jackson and Morant made you relevant especially Morant. Those players are still hard to come by no matter how much you tank. Just look at the Kings
In 2018, LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time. They went from the NBA finals to a 19-63 record in just one season. They had no choice but to rebuild from the ground up. Being on the bottom meant they got some top picks in the drafts. They selected Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and others with those picks. They also packaged veteran players to acquire Jarrett Allen, another solid piece for their young core. Now they’re in their upward growth, building towards playoff contention. Mobley looks like a serious centerpiece, while Garland and Allen are arguably all-star caliber players right now. Cleveland is in the middle stages of the rebuild, going from the lottery to the playoffs. This coming season could show us a hint of just how successful the rebuild has been.
been very successful. Jazz would be doing great to get a Mobley type player. You forgot Sexton who is comparable to Mitchell just without Gobert carrying his ass!
The New Orleans Pelicans are another team who recently found themselves in the position of a star player demanding a trade. In 2019, New Orleans traded Anthony Davis to the Lakers in exchange for a massive trade package highlighted by Brandon Ingram. Also included in the package were three first-round picks, multiple pick swaps, and other young players. In the following years, New Orleans began to rebuild and struck gold when they won the first overall pick in the lottery. With that pick, they selected Zion Williamson. Although Williamson has had trouble staying healthy, he’s looked like every bit of what was advertised when he plays. Despite his injuries, the Pelicans have grown and developed to the point of making the most recent playoffs. If they continue to grow while getting healthier, they could cause trouble in the West.
Jazz could be in a similar position if they get the French kid who history tells us is unlikely to have a long healthy career because of his size

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
https://saltcityhoops.com/bridging-the-gap-on-mitchells-value-using-star-trades/
The apparent gap between the two parties really got me thinking: just what is the value of Donovan Mitchell?
a lot less than what the Knicks think!
If the Knicks use any players in this thread in an attempt to reduce the Jazz’s asking price, they will focus on Jrue Holiday (two unprotected picks, two pick swaps) and Dejounte Murray (two unprotected picks, one protected pick, one pick swap), but that probably won’t fly. Holiday was older than Mitchell, and neither player can equal Donovan’s three All-Star appearances. Today’s Mitchell is more valuable than 2020’s Holiday or today’s Murray.
I'll take either of the two way players myself
Rose, in particular, will be 34 years old when the season starts, and will likely have little interest in sticking around for a rebuild in Salt Lake. The Jazz could try to relocate him, but the list of veterans they are trying to accommodate is getting quite long. Because Rose only has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract, there’s a chance the Jazz would be able to buy his contract out at a slight discount for the second time, cementing the legacy of Jazz legend Derrick Rose.
he should have value. An expiring contract
Fournier is younger than Rose, but is owed nearly $37 million over two guaranteed years, making it harder to execute a buyout and even more painful to waive. Not only does he not fit the on-court timeline, but the extra contract year also impacts the cap sheet next offseason, something the Jazz probably want to avoid for several reasons. If the Jazz take Fournier in a trade with the Knicks, they will likely want to move his contract no later than the 2023 offseason.
Danny won't be having much fun if any of this vets are on the roster after the trade deadline
Neither Rose nor Fournier has anything to do with the value of Mitchell, but the inclusion of either player in a Mitchell swap might alter the required return in the deal. I guarantee that if New York traded these players into space to sign Mitchell as a free agent, they would pay a hefty fee for the salary dump. The Knicks know this well, having just sent out a variety of assets to clear $28 million in cap space to sign Brunson as a free agent.
doubt it. They aren't Gay. They have value
