In Utah, Paschall might finally get opportunity to play the ‘Draymond Role’
but Draymond plays d
He is not, however, all that comparable to 6x All-Defensive team and former DPOY Draymond Green, who is a generational defensive talent. That’s not a knock on Paschall, who is a more than capable utility defender who should be a significant upgrade to the Jazz defense over Juwan Morgan or Georges Niang.
a guy that was benched for not playing D is better than guys taht have actually shown they can play D?
With the Jazz, Paschall will likely always share the floor with at least one of Donovan Mitchell, Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, or Jordan Clarkson. The combination of gravity created by Utah’s elite-shooting guards, and the lob threats posed by Rudy Gobert and Hassan Whiteside will create the perfect eco-system for Paschall to feast on defenses the way Draymond does.
elite?
But we know Paschall’s a capable defender and passer. He’s comfortable in the pick & roll as both the ball-handler and screener. He’s not a great shooter, but should get plenty of opportunity to develop his shot in Quin Snyder’s “shoot the ****ing ball” offense. And unless Rudy Gay at 35, is still good enough to command the bulk of the backup power forward minutes, Paschall should get the opportunity to play alongside a heliocentric guard and a traditional lob-threat big.
he was benched because of D. How do we know he's capable exactly?

However, the Jazz did part with Trey Lyles and Tyler Lydon in that exchange: a small price to pay, to be sure, but Lyles has had a considerably more successful NBA career than Erick Green.
For example, if a team is $0-5 million over the tax, the luxury tax is a $1.50 penalty for each dollar. That climbs to $1.75 between $5-10 million, and so on. Additionally, there’s a tax for teams that repeatedly find themselves above the tax.
While each player has proven to be a critical piece of the team’s success, if the Jazz find themselves dramatically underperforming expectations or if any one of Eric Paschall, Rudy Gay, Trent Forrest, or Jared Butler find themselves deserving of increased rotation minutes off the bench, the Jazz could move one of Bogdanovic, Ingles, Clarkson, or O’Neale resulting in significant savings.

what is underperforming if COTY loves you though?
Brantley is an interesting prospect because he brings great physical tools and athleticism at the 4-spot. Brantley has a good handle that he combines with great strength and athleticism that he showed off in the G-League. That talent hasn’t really translated to NBA games and the Jazz appear ready to cut their losses and move on to different prospects.
actually it has translated in the few chances he got. Too bad about COTY
It’s a good reminder that making it in the league is hard and time is short. Wherever Brantley goes, hopefully he gets a chance to play and show what he can do. The things he’ll have to do is cut down on the turnovers and become more consistent with his shooting. If he can do those things I can definitely see him find a place in the league.
a better reminder that the NBA isn't the only place willing to pay

I like what the Jazz have done with restocking their young prospects. Two years ago, the young talent on the team (Outside of Mitchell) was:
Brantley, Oni, Wright-Foreman, Bradley, Tucker, Morgan.
Today, the young talent is:
Butler, Azubuike, Paschall, Oni, Hughes, Forrest.
all those mentioned first are better than Hughes. Remains to be seen how good any of those other guys are. Forrest looks the best but he needs to be able to hit open shots at at least a decent rate. Bradley better than Udoka until proven otherwise. Morgan and Brantley better than Paschall until proven otherwise. Brantley better than Oni. Tucker probably was too. Butler might suck

I'm way happy for him getting that kind of money and a chance to play. He's a hard worker and I hope they give him a SL invite in a year or 2 to see if/how he's improved.
Dante close to signing a 3 year $15 million non guaranteed deal with Houston. Good for him. Sounds reasonable. He looked great in the Olympics. Hope he can stay healthy but .....
looked like the same crappy Dante to me when I saw him. Hard to believe he is getting paid again
Cool. That's a great place for him. He can at least get some playing time.
he can? Couldn't last year
I still remember the breakout game he had in OKC where he finally got 22 minutes playing time. 4/5 FG and 2/3 from 3. He was so happy and refreshing in his post game interview.
But DWade arrived and Donny got hurt next game and he got a DNP Coach's Decision.. Like seriously WTH? Then super short handed against the Lakers and he gets like 6 minutes. Like double WTH.
Guy busts his butt for 2 years. Waits patiently for an opportunity. Plays great when finally gets a game when he gets real minutes. I know OKC but still. And then gets a DNP. And 6 minutes with no Mike or Donny. I thought was horrendous player management by Q at the time and still do.
Seeing how the team wore down down by the end of the year and injuries killed our backcourt it was a stretch where he could easily have played 20 to 25 minutes a game and really seen what he could do. And saved a lot of wear and tear on Joe and JC.
He might have bombed but we will never know. He could have turned into another Dort or Royce too. I hope he gets a real shot somewhere else.

Meanwhile, the Jazz face no such uncertainty. They enter the 2021-22 season with a deep, talented roster of seemingly satisfied players. Furthermore, as much as the Blazers made incremental improvements this offseason, it feels unlikely that they did enough to overcome the 10-win advantage the Utah Jazz enjoyed over them last season.
We’ve already made the argument that the Utah Jazz may be specifically designed to counter the ultra-talented, veteran-heavy Los Angeles Lakers. Having said that: good god, are these Los Angeles Lakers talented.

talented or old?
The addition of human triple-double Russell Westbrook to a squad already featuring GOAT candidate LeBron James and elite big man Anthony Davis feels like an occurrence you might deem unrealistic in NBA 2K22. One wonders whether this offseason development finally confirms that yes, we do live in a simulation. Regardless, it happened, and it’s terrifying.
terrifying?
His cuts to the basket can be devastatingly effective, but that feels like a part-time answer. Ultimately, modern NBA teams tend to run, at a minimum, four-out spacing. That would necessitate a full-time switch to the 5 for Anthony Davis, a move he’s allegedly willing to make: however, with Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan both on the roster, it remains difficult to picture these pieces fitting together.
Davis needs to play the 5 but he's always hurt and Lebron has been for the past 3 years and Westbrook doesn't fit. Good luck!
Over the 37 games in which Jarrell Brantley appeared with the Utah Jazz, he flashed potential. He was simply in need of too much developmental attention for a contending team to provide. Hopefully, he’ll find an opportunity in the NBA with a team in a better position to roster him.
