People have eyes. I know you're a Philly guy and so are naturally biased but the eye test clearly shows us that he is not on the level of guys like Mahomes, Allen, and Jackson at all. He's never going to get serious MVP consideration because of that.
Drake Maye, on the other hand, has the ability to be.

Eye test for sure plays a role. So no I wouldn’t say from that stand point Hurts and MVP go together. The same applies for Daniel Jones and Baker Mayfield? Allen and Mahommes just seem like a reputation bump.

I think that Jones and Mayfield are both more naturally gifted and more fluid QBs than Hurts. Sometimes a young QB just doesn't work out in a particular situation through no fault of their own. There's a reason they were #1 and #5 overall picks though.
As for Allen and Mahomes, you might be right. However, with Jackson and Burrow out, both are capable of single-handedly taking over games to levels that no one else playing can right now. So yes it's part reputation but also benefit of the doubt given the abilities that we know they both have.

All lot. Probably more than there's ever been.

But in your mind, is that due to the actual talent these quarterbacks possess, or is it due to the way the game is played now i.e. with less defense being encouraged by the league, almost all QB hits/hard hits resulting in a personal foul, even other factors like having every drive start at the 35 now off of a touchback; or is it a combo of both?

He’s a system qb. He has a beast O line, Brown and Smith, then Barkley

System qb? He’s a winner. Would win in any system. Stupid narrative of what’s around him. What % of QBs that won mvp don’t have talent around them? Beast OL? Etc etc
Dumb take by a dumb jock.

Lame answer but I think it's both. It's easier to play the position now than it was 20 years ago and beyond, without question. However, I think with the philosophical changes with the position as well, it's opened things up for a wider variety of players with a wider variety of strengths to excel.
Black quarterbacks more commonly playing the position now has really strengthened the talent pool. I think, say...the 10 worst starting quarterbacks in the league now? Far superior than the 10 worst in 1995 regardless of rules.

Let’s see him win in a system where he isn’t surrounded by the best at every position and starts having to throw over 200 yards a game

That would be a very interesting hypothetical. Let's say the ten worst starters right now are
Fields
Kyler
Rattler
Wentz
Penix
Lawrence
Bryce
Gabriel
Flacco
Geno
And let's go with 1998 as that was the first year I started watching football, and say the 10 worst were roughly
Ryan Leaf
Craig Whelihan
Tony Banks
Danny Kanell
Jim Harbaugh
Trent Dilfer
Kordell Stewart
Kerry Collins
Charlie Batch
Jake Plummer
While I obv believe most of these guys would be putting up better numbers today, I think I'm inclined to believe you on that point.

Good analysis but I want to say bottom 10 are irrelevant. Not gonna ask you to do work I’m not willing to do but I would be interested in seeing the same done for top 10
