Not surprising one bit. Women have always used sex to get something from a man because it works. All women to some degree have a price. If you asked them would you sleep with someone for money chances are they would say no however they often want other things in return. Asking for a man to be in a well paid career so he can financially support them is common, that is a price right there. Being a sugar baby is prostitution because you're exchanging sex for material goods.
It also doesn't surprise me if there was some high end prostitution going on in Hollywood. I've heard plenty of stories about Hollywood being seedy and drug fueled. Even Susan Sarandon admitted that she got to where she is by the casting couch and she's a talented actress.
