MJ or his clone was needed for all 11 rings
You forget that MJ nearly made the Finals in 89' with a 6 seed before Phil, so Phil inherited a star already on the cusp of the Finals - indeed, it was MJ who was the goat candidate in 1990 and Phil was the 1st time nobody coach.. So MJ "made" Phil just like he was making Collins (aka nearly made Finals in 89' with 6 seed).
I agree with everything you said. :D
But theres one thing I dont understand... How MJ was considered the goat in 1990? Elaborate more.

He was a goat candidate
He wasn't considered the actual goat until he could "elevate his teammates" like Bird and Magic did - that was the running narrative at the time... No one cared that his cast was worse - he was expected to "elevate" those shit teammates like Bird and Magic did and damn sure wasn't allowed to team-hop onto a super-team
So people bashed MJ and his scoring until he won a ring, even though all his teammates (Woodridge, Pippen, Grant, BJ) grew by leaps and bounds next to him.. And once they'd grown sufficiently, they won (despite only 1 all-star teammate) and never lost again when mj played a full season
sorry if this is a bit repetitive guys - I'm just a huge fan of this photo. its one of my favorite sports images of all-time.
absolute cream of the crop right here, not a single scrub capable of sneaking into an all-time stat like this:

Just wanted to say this photo needs to have Kareem take the place of Magic as KAJ won the finals MVP in 71 and 85 and in 80 after Magic's great game 6, Kareem had the most votes for this award, but because he was not present the voters were asked to change their votes so Magic would win the award. This is covered in the book "Kareem" pages 140 - 141 and tells what happened from the perspective of one of the voters.

I love how people use this stat as if it's supposed to mean anything now that everyone knows that this only accounted for three playoff series, those being MJ's first three in the league lol.

You can tell the low IQs pretty quickly.
The fact that they EXPECT a rookie Jordan to beat a prime Bird just shows me they think Jordan's the GOAT :oldlol:

Baby LeBron took his team to the finals at the age of 22 so what's baby Jordans excuse for failing to take his team past the first round for 3 consecutive years :confusedshrug:

Im just talking shit to idiots like 3ball who are completely biased and irrational. I actually rank MJ as the GOAT because of his godly scoring ability, mentality, defense and overall package.
pound for pound on the court lebron is every bit as good even though they are completely different as players. lebron is the GOAT of the modern era and the 2nd GOAT overall. MJ will get the GOAT nod because he deserves it.
