Natural dreadlocks are the cleanest form of hair.
no the hell they are not
and to be real t-like, they are not a form of hair, just hair allowed to grow in a certain pattern without grooming...
That's disgusting

People who put wax in their hair give dreads a bad name, they are clean, and you are supposed to wash them routinely.

they still look dirty and unkempt as hell

It's just our natural hair.
It's just our natural hair.
So are you gonna let your fingernails grow long as well? That's the natural way.
So hows the dreads coming along?
So are you gonna let your fingernails grow long as well? That's the natural way.
I can't be ALL natural haha so I'll just stick with my hair for now
My hair needs to get a lot longer before it really starts to dread on its own, I've been going for about 2 months now, but my hair is only about 4 inches, when it gets around 6 things will start to happen. I'll keep you guys updated with pics in the coming months/years.
Dreadlocks, also called locks or dreads, are interlocked coils of hair which form by themselves, in all hair types, if the hair is allowed to grow naturally without grooming for a long period of time.

That is correct.

I don't have dreadlocks yet, its gonna take a long time. I will have a photo posted in about 8-10 months.
did you really have to confirm it being correct?
I gave it a lot of thought, and I decided that it needed to be confirmed. It's more reliable when a third party backs it up.

you should be logging the growth process too... ch-ch-ch-chia post. seriously, people love linear time lines

Just letting everyone know, that I will be posting my first pic on March 14th. This is my birthday and will mark about 5 1/2 months of progress. I hope by this time I have something to show everyone.

respect on your journey by the way but....unless someone else is posting on your account answering your own questions, that's not third party haha.
Post a pic enayes!
Soon...on the 14th.
This thread is really funny
but anyway, I had dreads for 5-6 months a little while ago, I didn't have time to "grow"them, so I got them back combed, cost me $300 and 3 hours of people pulling my hair
I was glad I did it and would have kept them for longer, but I had to start work
here's a few pics guys, keep in mind that my hair was really short when I started about 5 months ago(2-3 inches)it's about 6 inches right now. I expect to see a lot more progress in the coming months...

But you are not there yet. :lol

I know, but I also knew that natural dreads take a long time to form. At least 1-2 years for them to look "good". Most dreads you see out in public are backcombed-waxy messes that get cut off in 6 months
My locks will be the real thing.
Update Photos

she nudged me a little bit, but she really didn't care about my hair. My parents and grandma were worse tho, I honestly just felt like cutting it, short hair feels so nice in the summer.

I read all 8 pages to feel bamboozled .....
I have decided to start my journey once again. I will update in 6 months.

(not me)
i'm actually seriously considering growing dreadlocks.. i have thought about it in the last 4-5 months already but i kept cutting it cause i always got annoyed when my hair reached a certain length and it be such a hassle drying it in the morning..
questions:
- natural vs. beeswax method, give me the pros and cons
- how long does it have to be until i can do it?
- how much work and effor is there in maintaining it? (especially new growth)
- what kinda dreads did you get? thick ones or rupaul looking ones?
- do you find people treat you differently or look at you differently with dreads lol?
I grew my shit out to about 3 inches and was about to lock it up but got tired and shaved it off. Now my hair is about an inch long and I'm waiting for it to grow a bit and then try again. I found a couple cats at school here in LA that can help me so I just gotta wait....

I need to know if your black or white first and then I'll do my best to answer your questions. The hair types are very different.
Just disregard the stupid ass poses! They are pretty g@y!
I did mine naturally although i have fine hair. It took longer to start locking than most black people. Because I let them grow naturally yes I was ridiculed by people. Its a humbling process. You learn character, strong self esteem, and confidence as you let it grow natural. I didnt use beeswax but I used aloe plants in my hair. People did treat me differently though the average civilian were pains in the arse but I was with people in my inner circle that it was ok. Considering I was heavy into neo-soul what people call it these days those are the women I liked so it was fine for me socially. Most civilian american women though I wasnt getting love from but again non-americans and neo-soul women was all I dated so it wasnt that bad for me.
very early and notty dread look i let them grow together how they ever they were going to grow

a few years later i separated them i had too many growing together 3 or 4 links together at the end but a huge base

Then I decided to let them grow together but more groomed

People always assumed I was in a music band... that was the biggest thing. People would walk up to me and ask me stuff like that or where could they get the sticky green from. :applause:
