Its pretty similar...
But i wouldnt call them pretty, if you want a pretty jumpshot watch somebody like Ray Allen, Glen Rice, Dale Ellis, Dell Curry...
Yup. Even Steph Currys shot looks better than MJ and Kobe. But, if we had pick between the two, I'd go with Jordan. His body seems to be more control and the ball seems to roll off his fingers perfectly(due to the size of his hands).

Dell Curry and Steph Curry have the best looking jumpshot forms I have ever seen. They do there's so effortless. I'll give Steph the nod though since his form is as quick as anyone in the NBA

ray allen, steph curry are my favorites. if i had to choose between the 2 i'd have to go with kobe

Still this.

Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
Shooters like Ray Allen, Mark Price, Glen Rice, ALLAN HOUSTON have great shooting forms...only when they are shooting set shots, open threes. Go ask them to take two hard dribbles towards the baseline and shoot a contested 18 foot fadeaway jumper. Their forms would look awkward. No disrespect to them, they are great PURE shooters. But MJ and Kobe...they can go left and then pull-up, or go right and then pull up (much harder) while maintaining great elevation and balance. Even athletic swingmen like Vince Carter, Lebron James and D-Wade cannot do that. These guys can really jump, but I have always wondered why they never utilized their leaping ability on their jump shots.
Between Kobe and MJ, I would give the edge to Jordan (90-96) because of the ridiculous elevation on his jumpers.
i dont really give a rats ass about the form of the shot. as long as it goes in and is effective releasing it in front of a tight defender. Reggie had ugly form most would say and his shot was really effective.
MJ was more effective on it so therefore he wins.
Wow, a Kobe Jordan tread with pretty much no trolling. Were a lot of people recentely banned?
They're pretty much equal to me, but I like Jordan's fade aways much better.

Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
I think Kobe and Jordan are very similar, with Kobe flaring his legs a little more, but if I had to pick a jumper, this guys is to smooth
-
Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
Jordan had one key difference. He would jump as high as he could within ballance to take his shot. Kobe's form and Jordan's later form are nearly identical, considering all of the small differences in their bodies, but Jordan's early shot was a good 5" higher off the ground, regardless of how he made the shot, or spot up.
Other than that, this is as equal of a comparison, as you can get.

Neither have the prettiest. I'd go with someone like Ray Allen\J.J Reddick\Curry\Nash probably.

Their shots look almost exactly the same. Except Kobe pulls the ball down a little more since he has to a larger % of his total strength into his shot from feep than MJ did. Their forms look very similar though. Hard to say either looks better than the other. Both are roughly equal 3pt shooters anyway. Kobe takes a lot more than MJ though, so perhaps slight edge to him. Though (it seems like) Jordan jumps higher when he took his jumpshots, when I compare Jordan vids to Kobe vids (any year).

Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
Kobe shoots from a little more behind his head. Also MJ had better arch on his jumper, Kobe's J is far too flat sometimes.
I think thats just because Kobe has longer arms (despite Jordan having bigger hands).

Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
^ I never noticed that. I wonder why no got wingspan measurements on either of them?
Both of them have some seriously flat shots sometimes, probably because of the elevation they get. I remember watching Kobe one year, '08 I think, and all of his shots were straight line drives. I couldn't believe that some of them went in. :oldlol:
Kind of hard to differentiate their jumpers though, especially once they are up in the air. Their setup is different. Kobe developed a windup along the way that he uses from time to time.

Interesting, cause I've always wondered about Kobe's body type, because the way he moves seems a little lankier than Jordan. I don't know how to explain it, but Kobe seemed a little slower than Jordan because his body type, his genes seemed to come from the part of Africa that has long distance runners, while Jordan's seem to come from the West Africa, where the slaves came from, who are a little bit more athletic. It's really hard to explain.

It's because Kobe has a longer torso and his legs are anti-bowlegged, both which can be athletic disadvantages. And his muscle bellies and insertions are different, meaning if they were both bodybuilders, he would look worse than MJ.
I think Kobe's form is way prettier. MJ kind of looks like a nerd when he shoots a J(not his fadeaway). He kind of sticks his butt out and shoots too far out from his body. Kobe shoots lasers, and they look cooler when the ball hits the back of the rim and goes straight down in a 90 degree angle.

Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
Jordan's jumpshot average was close to 50%. Kobe's less. So Mike's better.
Whose J was better looking? Sports Illustrated put Mike's on the cover far more time than Kobe's. That should answer that.
-
Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
similar not identical though, just look at the pics in this thread
Different angles on the pics, and they're in slightly different stages of the shooting motion. That accounts for any differences you see. Watching their games is the easiest way to see that Kobe's form is a virtual mirror image of MJ's post-1992 form. Kobe may have a slightly higher release point, but aside from that they're identical.
-
Re: Who has the prettier jumpshot form, Kobe or MJ?
Ray Allen has the prettiest jumpshot ever
But Jordan's is prettier than Kobe's, he was more "gracile", not as forced. However, Kobe did a good job cloning it, if MJ wasnt such an ass he would be pretty proud and pleased by such a compliment and honor kobe is doing him by just trying to be like him and carrying that as far as kobe has done.

Last image is invalid for your argument imo, because Kobe's vert was obviously much better at that point in their careers, and thus, MJ's jumpshot was not that difficult to block as it used to be, especically by a player with a at least 10" better at the time. If not even moreso. Did you post that to troll? You even called people out before clicking post.
To prove my point that it's invalid, pictures speak louder than words.

Whoops? It's easy to just post a pic of someone getting blocked than pretend it somehow proves your whole point even though it's wrong. I could sit here for 10 minutes saying how Pierce has wingspan a half a foot longer than Kobe's based on this pic too. Obviously that isn't the case, since it's a pic and they're not standing next to eachother with their arms straight out specifically to be compared.
Getting blocked also has to do with the verts of the players involved, not just wingspan. A good vert can easily make up for a lesser wingspan. After all, a good wingspan just means you don't have to jump as much to get a block (in terms of the discussion that is, obviously wingspan has other appllications). So one fanboy image you probably have as your wallpaper isn't making a good point.
Also. . Kobe's arms are less than an inch longer, max. The pictures aren't with both players with their arms completely stretched out. Both pics have MJ's arm curved slightly and Kobe's are almost completely straight, making his appear to be longer in contrast. This has been talked about before, and the researched conclusion was that they had the exact same wingspan, and Kobe had a slightly better standing reach due to his body structure. And, that MJ's vert was what, almost 8" better than Kobe's during their primes? This means the ball would be nearly half a foot higher during a Jordan jumpshot than during a Kobe jumpshot.
If you want a source posting the standing reaches, verts, highest touches, etc, here you go.
http://vertcoach.com/highest-vertical-leap.html
Post stats rather than pics which clearly aren't fair to use since at least one of their arms are always bent in the pic while the other's is stretched out. Stats > pics.
In the end, both have very similar looking jumpshots. It is obvious Jordan's jumpshot influenced Kobe's form. Both have great jumpshots. Both look nice imo. The main visual analysis is that Kobe seems to have a "looser" jumpshot while MJ seemed to try and retain his main shooting form during as many situations as possible, not resorting to unorthodox forms when taking contested shots.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA9zcOhrUWo
Or here's a video I just looked up of both of them (And LeBron) making similar jumpshots in similar situations, apparenty made by an ISH poster a couple years ago.
