PS3 plays more media formats than XBox 360. I use my PS3 as a media player (connected to 1TB HD), and it plays pretty much every movie I download. On the other hand, many of the same movies don't work on my brothers XBox 360. I think the main problem is the XBox won't support anything over 720p, and doesn't support 5.1 AAC surround sound either.

Why are you even trying to debate the whole Playstation Network VS XBL. You know damn well XBL is light years ahead of the garbage Gaystation Network. Read up on any credible unbiased gaming source and they will tell you the same. XBL totally destories PSN. Sony better get it together before the next gaming generation with it's online capabilities and funcationalities or they're toast.
If Sony offered a better product in terms of exclusive titles and offered a superior online world, I'd gladly say PS3 > 360. That's not the case. Just STFU already. You get on my nerves. What rankings are these rankings based off of? I know for a fact that God of War 3, Final Fantasy Versus, and Gran Turismo 5 are not even out yet.

Neither is Twisted Metal. Whatever that guy posted has no credibility, as it lists games that aren't even out. Even if they were out, people who rank games are just ordinary people who just happen to rank games. Hell, you and I could start a website and start ranking games. It's all opinion.

What do you mean it's not a ranking? He said Gears of War is rated higher than these games, and goes on to list a bunch of games that Gears is supposedly better than, including ones that aren't even out yet. Am I missing something here?
As for the thread title, "Which to get?", it really depends on what you want. As far as which system has better games, that is truly all opinion. There is no right or wrong answer. I personally feel the PS3 has much better games, such as the God of War series, Killzone 2, the Resistance series, the Uncharted series, Demon's Souls, littleBIGplanet, etc. As for the 360, I'm not very interested in it's games. I've played Halo, didn't like it. Same with Left 4 Dead. Haven't played Gears, but it doesn't interest me all that much. One game I am interested in is Mass Effect 2. I hope one day that series makes it's way on the PS3.
If you are talking about the systems capabilities, hands down the PS3 wins. You can't play standard file types on the 360, such as mpeg-4, while the PS3 can. You also cannot plug in your external hard drive and copy files from the external to the 360, which I can do very easily with the PS3. PS3 also has Blu-Ray, which is nice. What can the 360 do that the PS3 can't? Serious question, as I really don't know. I couldn't find anything.
I've owned a 360 for a very short period of time, but sold it because I didn't like many of it's games and everything it could do, my PS3 could do and then some. Also, I seriously don't understand what is better about the 360 online. I've played Modern Warfare 2 online with both systems, and they ran identical.
My conclusion is this. If you are just using the console for gaming, take a look at each systems exclusives, see which ones you would enjoy more. I would also take into consideration online gaming. If you want to play games with your friends, and all your friends have 360s, maybe you should go that route. If you would like to use your console for more than just gaming, say you have an external drive that you use a lot or have HD movies on, have various file types that the 360 cannot play, want a Blu-Ray player, I would go with the PS3. PS3 really is a media power house, you can do anything with it. So far, the only file types the PS3 wouldn't read for me are .flv and .mkv, while the 360 can't even read mpeg-4 which is used very often.
I'm ready for any bashing to come my way.

That dude called GoW mediocre, but it's rated higher than all but two (or so) PS3 exclusives. I didn't bother taking out the non-released, but take out GT5 and God of War 3 and my argument still stands.

My bad, I didn't read the entire thread. But who's to say what's good, what's not, what's better than what, etc.? It's all opinion. Some of these video game review websites don't know what they're talking about.
I don't know why people have such a huge debate over these consoles. Its the games that matter. Just look at the exclusives and see which one you'll play. Everything else is pretty much a wash.
I bought a PS3 cause I love MGS4 to death, and I love GT5. LBP is so overrated, I didn't like it, but I guess it was something different. Uncharted was a surprise, that series is amazing, and Heavy Rain demo looks good, so I might get that.
On the 360 side, I never had an xbox so I didnt play Halo and all that, but I really really want to play Mass Effect. I think thats the best game for the xbox, at least for my tastes.
Again, just see what exclusives u like. For me I preferred ps3 exclusives over the 360s. Wish I could play Mass Effect though.

I bought a 360 and love it. I'm not down with all this internet stuff on the PS3, I have a laptop so why do I need internet on my gaming system? Also with the blu-ray I'm not a huge movie watcher so there's not point for me to use that either. I bought an 360 to play games and not for the extra things because its all useless to me. With the online you are playing for quality, the online is simply perfect and I have rarely lagged out of games.
Once you can buy PS2 games on PSN if that ever happens it will be PS3 FTW!!!

I dont know a single person who has owned a 360 that hasn't had their system fail at least once. I mean, I know they exist, but to know over 15 people who have all had the thing die? Thats just awful.
I know one poor guy that has gone through [B]4[/B] of them.
Really, thats the main thing that stopped me from getting one. The extra cost for online and a non gimped system were a factor too.
The only thing that ever held me back on the PS3 was price. I was going to save or one as soon as they dropped it but I got lucky and my parents gave me one this last Christmas.
Really the only thing that is on 360 that I truly want is Left 4 Dead.
I have gone through 2 XBOX 360's that got the Red Rings for no reason. THe system never dropped, never overheated and never sat on the floor.
PS3 also has free online play and allows you to get free demos so that too is a winner.

So after 4 years my PS3 gave out on me.
Could not play disc games and DVD's anymore...got it fixed and works fine now.
But that was 4 years plus and the first gen of the PS3 consoles.
Sony makes the better hardware straight up.

After getting the red ring of death on my 360, I'd have to say I prefer my Ps3. The whole machine feel quality, it supports bluray, and multiplaying is free.

i like my ps3 better but it's because i have had 2 360s die on me b4 i got it. the 360 seems to have a tad more better games but my ps3 has yet to die. <knock on wood>

cuz 1 I don't wanna pay $50/month, 2 it has sooo many features, 3 I'm used to playstation rather than XBOX, and I know the 360 graphics are much better but for me they're good. and i know alot more people play the 360 but its not like i'm gonna play EVERYONE at every game, cuz I'm mostly gonna be playin 2k10/11 and onwards. And play RDR sometiems and COD sometimes. Also, the 360 dies alot, PS3 dont die. And also the price is the same, so for me the PS3 is good.

I just play games when I use the systems and I like Playstation simply because of the controller. The only reason i switched to Xbox initially was because that was the system the Madden Challenge was on (and I [played that game religiously). Now the game has gone to the shitter and I don't play it. PS has Final Fantasy too... which is one of the only games I play... so yea PS for me.
