Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
The funny thing about ISH...
There's fitness threads where everyone is in amazing shape
BUT
Nobody can take pictures to prove it because they "don't have a webcam/camera"
BUT
Anytime there's threads about phones and computers, everyone has the most expensive, advanced ones on the market
I'd post more in those threads but im to lazy to actually upload anything :lol

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
Where did you get the 5.7% reading, Mach 3?
You appear to be more around 8-10.
-
Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
you dont have to be in amazing shape or have big muscles to do a lot of pullups
its all technique and strength
True.
I saw some guy at the gym today with an average physique doing like 5 with 45 lbs. attached and then doing a set of 12 without it afterwards.

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
I'm going to take a guess and say 90% of the people in this thread aren't doing dead hang pull ups.

My weight fluctuates between 145-148 depending on what im doing during the day but i've used a variety of measures, bmi tests, body fat scales, i've even jumped in a bod pod before they all came back around the same percentage give or take a percent.
I'm one of those OCD ass people who watch their diet pretty much all the time with everything i put into my body and obviously it'd be pretty hard to determine that from (admittedly) pretty bad quality cell phone pics

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
So yeah I pulled off 22 biatchess..... haven't worked out in 2-3 weeks due to injuries
in 2-3 months my goal is 30 with good form
Worked my back and biceps now having some milk, almonds and peanut butter alllll natural

There's not really a good way to pull off public taping of solo athletic endeavors, unless your locale is completely empty.

What's your back/bicep routine?

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
What's your back/bicep routine?
I change it often depends on how I feel, some exercises I do are:
front pull downs with cable machine - 3 sets of 8
rear pull downs with cable machine - 3 sets of 8
cable machine rows - 3 sets of 8
rows with resistance band - 3 sets of 8
dumbbell rows - 3 sets of 8
lower Back extensions with exercise ball - 5 sets of 8
variety of pull ups - 5 sets of 8
shoulder shrugs - 3 sets of 10
bicep curls and hammer curls - 5 sets of 8
I usually end with some basic back and shoulder stretching for the extra flexibility

Nah thats some kid from the playground. He basically made every kid in the town a street workouter. He also used to practise parkour but he stopped this year ( and thank god for that, its pointless and you could easily broke a leg doing it )

And im not sure if stuff like this helped him or its just genetics but he grew like 20 cms in 2-3 years

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
I don't have access to a pull up bar and haven't in years, so I am unsure, but probably roughly 10. In my peak, I could do 30+ easily. 50 maybe?

lol, I'm not going to a park just to see how many pull ups I can do, and I'm too poor to pay for a gym membership. I'm surviving off of using the couple hand weights I have, pushups, and running outside.

Not sure. I would hope I could do at least one:lol

Door frame pull-up bars are sturdy and reliable as hell.
You should get one. A good addition to your guerilla gym endeavors.

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
come on man you could do pullups on basically anything- on a tree, on a basket hoop, on a soccer goal post... hell you can do on your door at home

I've thought about getting one before. I'm in no hurry, but I may get one. Still, I'm certainly not getting one just to find out my max.

It's not about finding out your max. :lol
I wasn't expecting you to go to a park just to find out how many you could do for that one time only. It's the fact that pull-ups are so vital of an exercise to have in your regimen. One of those that hit many muscles and trigger growth hormone into your system.
I've been sleeping on them myself for a long time and am seeing tremendous all-around physical improvement just from doing them regularly again whenever I strength train.

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
if i want my bicep muscles to get bigger it's better to do chinups right?
also, the best thing i can find is a children's swing, and i can use the bar for chinup/pullup, it's a bit thick though. will it affect me?

Chin-ups do target the bicep more, yes.
As far as bar thickness, I can't really say. I don't know how it would affect you, but my guess is that if you are able to perform at least one pull-up on it repeating that movement would actually help your grip strength due to it being thicker. The fingers would be working harder to keep you on.
-
Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
10.5 deadhang pull-ups. Couldn't quite get my chin over the bar for #11, but I feel like a beast anyway since my form is impeccable and way more thorough than most dudes I see.
I don't really focus on increasing my max. I simply always begin strength training days with 3 sets of pull-ups to muscle failure.

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
I don't do pull ups I push the world down.
-
Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
Up to 18 deadhang.
Probably 27 or so if i wanted to cheat a little and use less ROM. But these would look crossfit sloppy :oldlol:
Here's a good technique.
There's a bunch of programs out there like Armstrong
So one day, we'll go to the playground and do chins on unstable rings. I do them at a 3-1-3 pace.
Then strap up a 45 lb plate and do sets of 6. Like seven sets of them.
Then go ahead and use 2 35's and go for sets of 2-3.
Rest a day
Then do bodyweight endurance.
It works really well. It's called grease the groove.

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
GTGing can actually entail a lot of rep schemes, but from going over Pavel's books, the main things to note are to do them everyday or as frequent as possible and to not do the movement to exhaustion/failure.
if i want my bicep muscles to get bigger it's better to do chinups right?

I the case of the bar thickness, it depends. Thick bar work will more often than not always be harder. However, the difficulty can change depending on how you grip. If you're simply going to "hook your fingers on the bar, it won't be too much trouble and it will allow you to focus on engaging your last more since there is less to no worry over letting go. However, if you grip the fat bar with all your might, you may be pressed to do even 1 as gripping strength now takes the front seat. No grip = No pull. I tried it one time and I barely got to 4 holding the frame of the swing which was probably like 5 inches in diameter. :oldlol:

So these things are pretty solid? I'm super skeptical about it because I feel like I'm gonna bust up my door frame using it.

Doorframes are very sturdy, so you should be alright.
It's a fairly commonly used product. Unless where you're living is on the verge of collapse, I don't think there's anything to worry about. Go on YouTube and search vids of people using them if you need some calming reassurance :lol .

nah he learned it on his own.. he took some gymnastic classes but didnt like it... he just likes to do everything in the streets... ive told him to start going to the gym but he doesnt want to... i guess he is not into gaining mass, more into strength and endurance...
i swear if there was some competition here in extreme sports he would definitely win it.. he has tried every semi-extreme sport there is, and is a pro at it.... skateboarding, rollerblading, snowboarding, tricks with those little bicycles, parkour, and of course crazy street workout stuff.... of course though he doesnt really have good grades :oldlol: ... but hey you cant be good at everything...
he can also throw down some nice dunks i will tell him to record himself next time

Re: how many pull-ups can you do?
When this thread was first started in the beginning of September, I could only do two or three pull-ups. I was too embarassed to post my numbers.
Now, after working my ass off in the meantime, I am at 8 honest, all the way down, all the way up, pull-ups with a wide grip. I hope to hit 10 by Christmas.
My lats are noticeably bigger now.
