he didn't beat the record for the free fall?? he deployed it before the record was broken??
he didn't beat the record for the free fall?? he deployed it before the record was broken??
yeah he was about 10 seconds from the record. he seemed to have been tumbling alot at the beginning, was a scary moment.

Haha, all respect to Felix but Kittinger is just sick, Kittinger still got the record.. :oldlol:
oh wow, he didnt break kittinger's free fall record
Its because he flied down faster, he almost doubled Kittingers speed with like 1100-1200 km/h... thats freakin insane
What a badass!
My guess is that he pulled it because his visor was fogging up and he might not have been able to see his altimeter.
Its because he flied down faster, he almost doubled Kittingers speed with like 1100-1200 km/h
No, he didn't double Kittinger's speed, Kittinger came up to 988 km/h..
And Kittinger did it 52 years ago, just compare the technology;

Those giant balls of steel definitely helped him with that speed record.
The falling down part we pretty underwhelming, I thought we'd get live feed from this helmet cam or something. Still:bowdown:

It's not fair to Felix but after reading about Kittinger's jump I can't help to be more impressed with that jump. Kittinger still holds the free fall record too.
For anyone who's intereste, this is what Joe Kittinger did 52 years ago;

quick question for you aeronautical experts..since he hit supersonic speeds, shouldn't he have created a sonic boom?

Can't wait to torrent the shit out of the documentary coming out soon.
It will have all the head camera footage from the fall and additional awesome stuff.
Absolutely amazing stuff. Love the drawl of the old man talking him through the checklist in that calm voice... During the free fal everyone's looking at computer screens Kittenger has a old fashioned stop watch in his hand...
Notice he pulled the chute a few seconds before he would have broken the free fall record? I wonder if he did that for Kittenger's benefit? The old man still holds that record.

i dont really know shit bout aeronautics but he didn't have an engine sucking air...

Could be, but I doubt he could have known how fast he was going with all the commotion around him. I think he stated that his visor was fogging up and that's why he pulled the shoot early.
I was panicking though when he was spinning around like a helicopter.

I'd be curious to know this as well. My guess is there needs to be atmosphere to create a sonic boom, only a guess though.
Washington Post:
Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner fell to Earth from 24 miles up Sunday, enrapturing millions of people following a live feed of his stunt as he became the first human being to travel faster than the speed of sound without the assistance of a craft.
During a four-minute, 20-second free fall, he reached a speed of Mach 1.24 or 833.9 miles per hour, according to an official with the National Aeronautic Association.
The data on Baumgartner
