Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
The flip side of that coin is all the money Texans pay in taxes wouldn't be going to the Federal Government
Texas business's and people are huge contributors of taxes to the US
But let's not forget that many of those people would leave Texas in this case. People in the cities are far more liberal and sane than the wilderness and country rednecks here. It's the reason why such a referendum would never even get voted yes on.
Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
See that's where it gets blurry on how certain companies would be moderated if their HQ are in the US and not TX.
But such technology requires massive amounts of money and also time.
money? if you read the article you noticed that Texas is the 15th largest economy in the world...you think that type of money is incapable of a decent military?...esp being full of people that already have the know how to create jets/ships/etc?
Obviously the US would allow us to have hardware for our military (what are they going to say, "you aren't allowed to have jet planes!!!"?), the only think I can see being a legit issue is a nukes, and if we were to split on very friendly terms I wouldn't even rule that out completely...

Well there's certainly two sides to the coin when you're the second most populous state in the union. That being said...this idea seems ridiculously short-sighted.

just found a deal, in 2005 the feds gave Texas 94 cents for every dollar it received from the state, so in fact in 2005 Texas sent out more than it took back.

Using the fact that Texas' current GDP would be the 15th largest in the world as saying that it would have the 15th greatest economy is extremely naive and short sighted at best  :applause:
There are no trade partners, investors, economic aid,etc to begin with. Do you expect immediate entry into the WTO, World Bank, IMF?
Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
Happens every four years.Happen to in the Bush years too.Wont happen so who cares.

Why wouldn't we have trade partners, investors, etc?

So you think the U.S. wouldn't take its technology, its weapons, its ships, its planes, etc? You think that the US would help fund a new Texan military too?
Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
Some of yall have never been homeless. That whole pick yourself up by your own bootstraps mentality is bullshit. Doesnt work in real world 101. Everyone needs a helping hand in the community/country- whether its friends, family, government, church, rehab clinic, shelter etc etc etc. Human beings cant survive on their own. We are not adept to it. Its not in our species nature to go it alone. No man is an island unto himself love thy neighbor as thyself etc etc etc. Class warfare is a losing battle strategy and its gonna **** us all. And I cant stand this passive aggressive ***** shit. Admit it yall cant stand that he beat white men twice. Fear of a black planet... Let Texas secede **** em. If it wasnt for California and all the taxes we put in to the federal government none of these shit kicker states would survive anyways. Republicans are fighting against history. They cant except that its not the 1950s anymore. The country is more diverse. If you cant embrace diversity and culture at least accept it. You got a black man running things for four more years. Deal with it.
even if texas seceded, the united states military isn't going to let the cartel take over texas. it's just not going to happen. i'm in fort hood right now, trust me, they don't have anywhere to place these troops outside of texas.
Re: Texas Petition to Secede Has Enough Signatures to Require White House Response
no dude :facepalm Texans could accept bribes RIGHT NOW if they wanted, you think being a part of the US has prevented them from taking over Texas ? lol
Like all they need is for Texas to secede and they will suddenly be able to flood the state over?
Cartels are pretty much limited to machine guns...they couldn't handle an actual military complete with missiles and such lol
You don't think they do accept bribes already? Clearly you have never been to a bordertown :lol . They would suddenly flood the state if TX seceded? You could bet your house on it. People don't realize how political the cartels are. Hell, they have their own govt under their control (more of an understanding really). If you think Cartels are limited to only machine guns, you seriously are just ignorant. They have missile launchers and shit. Not only that, they don't even have to use these weapons.
If they want you, they have millions of people who they can send at you. Didn't you hear about them taking that dude from reddit when he threatened to give out names of prominent cartel members? It only took them a couple of days to do it. Now, they released him with pressure from the US govt (though there was likely a trade involved). If you guys doubt the power of the cartels because you think it's just "tv garbage," I feel sorry for the small box you live in. My gf is from Mexico city and even though it is one of the safer places in Mexico, I hear about all the shite that goes down there all the time. You guys shouldn't speak on things you don't know about. There's a reason why the cartels aren't even discussed by our government.
Texas would stand no chance unless the US govt still protected them.
