COLUMBUS - Missing four starters, against Major League Soccer's only perfect team, on the road, against an Eastern Conference foe Toronto FC's beaten twice in 19 tries.
No problem.

Galaxy toying with Shitvas
Solid 3-nil victory. Should have been more though, two chances that easily should have been put in the back of the net.
Landy Cakes played real well as well
should this thread be more of an Americas soccer thread than just MLS?
it might pick up a bit more if there was also news for Liga MX, NASL, USL Pro, and the top tier leagues from countries like Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, etc. Especially when tourney's like the Copa Libertadores or CONCACAF Champions League are going on.
Do you think MLS team can compete vs a Colombia, Brazil etc team?
I think let's just stick with North American leagues and national teams here.
so then all of CONCACAF (plus or) minus the Caribbean zone?
that would be leagues in USA, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Belize.
Do you think MLS team can compete vs a Colombia, Brazil etc team?
depends on who is playing :lol
the 2014 USL Pro season is free to watch on Youtube.
this is the third tier of US soccer and many of these teams are affiliated with MLS clubs. Orlando City (sort of) will be moving up to MLS soon.

for mls all stars they should have mls all stars vs liga mx all stars
It is official. Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank got the 22nd MLS franchise in Atlanta that will join the league in 2017, with NYC FC and Orlando City in 2015, and Becks' Miami team in the future.
They will play in the new Atlanta Falcons stadium that can be shrunk down from 70k seats to 30k for soccer.
FYI, NYC FC will play in Yankees Stadium for three years while Orlando City will play in Citrus Bowl til they get their own stadium.
am I the only one that thinks putting teams in Miami (again) and Atlanta is ****ing insane due to the extremely mediocre/fair weather sports fans in both those cities?
am I the only one that thinks putting teams in Miami (again) and Atlanta is ****ing insane due to the extremely mediocre/fair weather sports fans in both those cities?
With you on this one and more so about Atlanta. I maybe ignorant on the city but they don't seem like a city that has a "soccer culture" or that much interest in the sport and cities support for other local teams is a bit concerning given the city size. Not a hockey fan but their hockey team had to move to Canada because they weren't getting any support, don't think soccer will fare that much better. The USSF should have USMNT friendlies and other soccer matches in the area to test support instead of just going all in.
Looks like Atlanta got it because they got the backing of Arthur Blank a powerful "figure" with NFL ties and has a potential stadium in the NFL stadium. This screams like the owner with the most $ getting the bid...
Expansion is happening wayyy to fast atm. Lets address other holes in the league like rebranding/relocating Chivas, focusing on getting more SSS, a viable second tier league(which will open the gate for expansion), quality of play and budgets.
PS, but i do think Orlando City is going to be a decent hit though. Although Florida is a shitty market for sports Orlando seems to be an exception and the city doesn't have that many sports teams which will increase interest. Hopefully it will be something like Portland

Orlando City I get b/c they draw upwards of 8k for a 3rd tier USL Pro team.
If Atlanta was getting the NASL Atlanta Silverbacks who have been there for a long time and actually have a fanbase to build on it would be more reasonable.
But to just create a new MLS team in a city known for being iffy with fan support (remember when the Hawks couldn't sell out playoff games recently?) while there is already an NASL team in town seems to be silly.
Also, sticking them in a pro football stadium, even at a reduced seating capacity of 30k for their games, seems foolish at best when even the Braves have trouble getting than many people out. It probably will end up looking like New England Revolution or DC United games where even if they get a decent 15k-20k crowd it will look like a ghost town.
FCD - 2
Toronto - 1

That would be better. Instead of going against the big clubs. They are playing Bayern this year.

TBH, it's all about marketing/exposure for the all-star game because neither the All-stars nor the opposing team take the game too seriously.
But I do find it funny when eurosnobs discredit the MLS when the all-stars lose but they totally avoid the fact that SKC's B team pounced on Man U's starters a few years back and so on and say it was only a friendly.

I don't take too much of it to be honest with you. Although it is fun to watch the MLS all stars match up against the big clubs in Europe because essentially they are an all star team themselves. Just looking at their roster compared to ours.
I know it is for fun but there is some competition seeing as we are America and they are a bunch of Euro misfits. They have their soccer superiority and we have our national superiority. So the narrative is good but the games aren't as serious as I wish for.
Tied the Caps, decent I suppose. Shitvas choked due to Kennedy. Surprising.
TFC losing 2 in a row already. Those without Defoe doe. :(
Anyone watched Yannick Djal
NYCFC Yankee Stadium setup looks just awful for sight lines :facepalm

Who else purchased MLS live? only 31 dollars. I love it so far
Gyasi Zardes is a beast. Scored a double as the Galaxy drubbed the Revs 5-1. Eight straight unbeaten
Galaxy will thrash Sporting KC
Zardes will score a double.
Think I'll start following the MLS more.
Disappointing loss to end the 8 game unbeaten streak. Still, 2 points behind FC Dallas for the second seed with three games in hand, I'll take it.
In other US Soccer news, FC Tucson won its first ever playoff game in the USL Development League with a 2-1 victory over the LA Misioneres, where Mike Randolph and Kyle Nakazawa had stints prior to joining the Galaxy.
Brian Thompson, FC Tucson's keeper, saved a spot kick in stoppage time to ensure the W, and now, we face the Whitecaps U23 in the next round of the post season
Thanks for Uri Rosell.
MLS ticket prices, at least for the Galaxy, are surprisingly steep. I was looking at tickets the other day and they were comparable to NBA ticket prices. :confusedshrug:
What is a quality team a brother can follow? I am going to start and watch this. I haven't watched MLS since Becks left RM for Galaxy.

The best rivalry seems to be in the Northwest with the Sounders and Timbers. I follow the Galaxy (casually) because it's the closest team and they have a pretty good squad.

Sporting Kansas City, Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, FC Dallas, DC United, and Toronto FC are the best teams so far this year.
Right now Seattle has a pretty solid lead in the race for the Supporter's Shield which goes to the team with the best overall regular season record and gets you a spot in CONCACAF Champions League.
US Open Cup play is also down to 4 MLS teams. Philly will play at FC Dallas and Seattle hosts Chicago. Both are in early August. The winner of the Cup also gets a spot in the CONCACAF CL.

That is exactly what I want to watch but I totally forgot about it and missed it last season. It would be great if a MLS team wins that CL.
I will be looking out for those that you mentioned.

Don't know about the Galaxy but I know for the NYRB I never purchase from the official website although they have some nice packages. I normally just buy from other people though.
But I can imagine the Galaxy have one of the(if not) the highest prices in the leauges while Chivas USA and Columbus probably have the cheapest.
How about DC United only one point off the top of the East starting 11 Americans?
I have no idea how they're managing it with one DP and a lot of average MLS lifers but it's cool to see a team do it without inflated foreign players. Bill Hamid looks like he's finally living up to his potential.
Sounders look like the favorites right now. That attack of Dempsey-Martins-Pappa-Neagle is unstoppable when it's clicking.
SKC ties up both Graham Zusi and Matt Besler, two of the best Americans still playing in MLS, to DP contracts. They haven't spent that much yet still one of the best teams in the league. Time to throw money around.
The best in the league at player development. They draft extremely well, they know when to loan out there young players to get experience(done wonders for Dwyer and Sapong) and they are making efforts for their affiliate teams for player development.
They built a solid core that's very cost efficient, young and not injury prone. That's the recipe for success in the MLS and I know that NYFC are going in for a rude awakening thinking aging stars in Lampard and Xavi will be able to last an entire MLS season when in reality is they'll be fit for half the season and miss the other half with lingering injuries.

I really hope there's a provision in the next CBA where homegrown and US internationals can be paid DP money without counting against the cap. These silly salary cap rules are standing in the way of an MLS team winning CCL and the league is stable enough that it doesn't need all these rules to stay sustainable anymore. Teams like SKC are essentially being punished by having to pay two national team guys they developed therefore not being able to buy some good foreign DPs.

On paper DC may only have one DP but they spent pretty heavy this offseason to rehaul their roster. Franklin, Eddie Johnson, Espindola, Silva, Boswell, Parke, Rolfe, etc. Alot of them were a bit pricey and borderline DP(Franklin and I'm not sure if Johnson is an actual DP) but kudos for them because I thought they were going to be trash this season.
BTW, it's a shame what happened to Chris Pontius. He was really good a few years back when healthy but injuries have just ruined him..
