Child abuse and people who ran Hollywood go hand in hand. Not Hollywood itself.

I was not aware of this. Still, Sheen seems unlikely given that he is not an A-lister to most, and he is definitely not a "family man." A lot of people are saying Tom Hanks or Speilberg. That would be incredibly shocking, but I think the point is that it would be a shocking person.

I'm thinking by "family man" Feldman is insinuating that people would be surprised that someone so publicly known as a ladies man (been married several times, has kids, etc.) has been taking part in homosexual encounters for decades, even putting aside all of this pedo stuff.

As interesting as this story is, that seems like an overstatement. The church has drawn pedophiles internationally probably since the beginning of recorded human history, or at least since a vow of celibacy was required for priests.

Just think about what being a catholic priest entails and it is obvious why it draws such a large percentage -- relatively speaking -- of sexual offenders.

1. It gives adult men an automatic out as to why they have no sexual interest in other adults. In fact, a catholic priest found breaking his vows would probably be dealt with as harshly as a guy reported to be touching kids inappropriatly -- at least before all the scandals broke out. Not only does it provide an iron-clad excuse for a lack of intimate relationships, it is 100% expected by the community that they'll honor the code.

2. The leader of a church congregation obviously has a never-ending supply of children to assault. Really religious families will often even reach out to the church to help with issues their kids may be having.

3. The church obviously wields tremendous power in the local community, nationally and internationally.


I certainly won't deny that Hollywood celebrities and the mechanisms behind them would also serve as a likely place for a sexual predator, but the Catholic Church goes far beyond a couple of noticeable faces and click-bait stories. A certain percentage of predators will probably always be drawn to the priesthood, which is a major reason it should do away with the vow of celibacy.
