Why is anyone surprised? Same game plan as 2016
No way to sugar coat this. This is bad. It's almost as bad as a sitting president using US spy agencies to spy on a presidential candidate.
Trumpeters mounting a 'Lil Donny defense'.. In typical Trump fashion, their defense is to attack the whistle-blower rather than the content of the material, which they seem to be ignoring. :facepalm

nah, she just knows it's pointless since moscow mitch will kill it the second it reaches the senate. of course maga will spin it as a victory during campaign season.
at this point it's like, the difference between an impeachment process final date and election day is a few months.
not the worst strategy to continue the impeachment hearings, gather the evidence, vote, then let the prosecutors/attorneys general/etc feast.

there's a reason why maga is scared shitless of sleepy joe. the man is a god to the working class whites of the rust belt, aka the spot where the gawd emperor eeked out his electoral college win and the spot he needs to win in 2020.
much in the same way that there is no crime that maga could commit that would make their minions turn on them, there isn't a gaffe on earth that sleepy could make that would cause the rust belt to turn on him.
maga's own internal polls, not the manufactured fake news ones, show joe blowing the emperor's brains out in those key states.

It has been several days and they've yet to settle on talking points or mount a defense; that's how you know it's pretty bad. They've avoided all of their favorite political shows. We'll see how they do tomorrow on Face the Nation, Meet the Press, State of the Union and This Week.
Also looking forward to how Chris Wallace treats the issue.

Impeachment isn't the goal... the inquiry and investigation is. You want to get all the facts out in the open before broaching impeachment.

This is exactly what will happen.
It should be noted... Trump is deathly afraid of Joe Biden. He will take his chances with Warren, Sanders, Harris and the others, but he, and his team, are terrified of Biden. But it's no surprise... Biden is absolutely murdering him in the national polls and in the state polls. Trump is certain to become increasingly desperate in the coming months.
It's unfortunate this came up now. It would have been much better after Biden became the nominee because eventually this is going to come back and bite Biden right in the ass. What is an undeniable fact is that Biden personally threatened to withhold a billion dollars to the Ukraine if they didn't fire the prosecutor that was investigating the company his son was working with. This won't bring down Trump but has the ability to blow up in spectacular fashion in the face of Biden.

What is interesting is that the Obama administration advocated that the prosecutor in question be fired because he actually wasn't investigating anyone or anything, in spite of significant corruption... not even Hunter Biden. He wasn't fired because he was investigating anyone. The prosecutor who replaced him immediately began opening investigations into corruption.
As for Trump asking Ukraine to open up an investigation into a political opponent's son in order to hurt his political opponent... let's see if the stories of withholding financial aid are true. I imagine you'd agree that is indeed unfortunate.

Washington*(CNN)*—*
One source said that Inspector General Michael Atkinson referenced "a sequence of events" and "alleged actions" that took place. However, another source disputed that the IG provided substantive details regarding the whistleblower claim. The whistleblower's complaint deals at least in part with Ukraine,*The New York Times*and*Washington Post*reported Thursday night.
CNN had earlier reported, citing a source familiar with the case, that the complaint was prompted by concerns over communications between the President and a foreign leader. The alleged whistleblower didn't have direct knowledge of the communications that partly prompted the complaint to the inspector general, an official briefed on the matter told CNN on Thursday. Instead, the whistleblower's concerns came in part from learning information that was not obtained during the course of their work, and those details have played a role in the administration's determination that the complaint didn't fit the reporting requirements under the intelligence whistleblower law, the official said.
The whistleblower's attorney, Andrew Bakaj, had no comment when asked about the claim that the individual did not have direct knowledge of the communication in question. When asked if the complaint deals with Ukraine, Bakaj again had no comment.

If the "whistleblower" is in the right here his lawyer is going to be singing, not repeatedly refusing to comment.

Trump and Giuliani repeatedly attempted to try to get the Ukrainians to launch an investigation into Hunter Biden this year in order to hurt Joe Biden politically. Giuliani admitted as much, saying that before Biden takes the White House, he wants him to have to deal with the Ukraine controversy. The Trump administration only started advocating for the investigation once it became clear that Biden would run for President.
