Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
Watching a Utah based sports talk show where they've said the Bulls and Jazz had a deal in place for Gobert until the KD news came out and the Bulls pulled out.
Deal was
Gobert
For
Vucevic
Williams
White
3 1st round picks
I know they ended up getting a ton of picks from the T'Wolves, but all the talk was the Bulls wouldn't even trade Vuc and Williams for Gobert, so not sure how the 3 1sts got added too.
didn't want Vuc. Minny is the better deal and the better team. ANT >LaVine

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
Windy eventually ended up looking like a profit when Utah dealt All-Star center Rudy Gobert. And now for the first time since his clip went viral, he addressed the reaction to it on his podcast. It helped that it was a holiday weekend, there wasn’t a lot of activity, all that contributed to it. It really became more popular as a meme than actually what I said. Look, I knew the Jazz were pretty close to trading Rudy Gobert. To be honest with you, part of what I was doing was trying to avoid aggregation. … In this world of aggregation, I have to get more creative because you get pinned down on sometimes four words.
That is a lot to ask for Durant and that is why the future Hall of Famer has to seriously consider his options. If the Timberwolves said yes to that deal, then Durant would join a team with just Gobert and D’Angelo Russell as the main pieces along with himself. They would lose a lot of depth and a lot of star power in that move. While they would certainly make the playoffs, a title would be extremely tough.

They would be one of the best teams in the league and legit contenders. Be tough to trade ANT though!
The other player that’s been impressive is Xavier Sneed. Sneed has some nice tools with his athleticism and ideal size for a wing, and he’s looking like his shot has improved. You can see why the Jazz have had him on the team. The hope would be that Sneed continues to develop and can be a consistent contributor for the Jazz as they look for more talent to fill the roster for the upcoming season.
Not sure his length but he's 6'5. Not ideal. He seems pretty raw. Plays with a lot of energy. Bit out of control. He might be worth having around. We'll see
The current Jazz roster is lottery bound, so if they either have to make some more moves to be competitive or they should trade Mitchell and go full rebuild. Holding onto Mitchell while going to the lottery doesn't make sense.
Makes sense to me. Tank this year. Great draft in 2023. Get under the cap. See if anyone else emerges to build around. Look to bring in another young star with cap space or hope one develops. If Mitchell doesn't like it see ya!
Donovan doesn’t want to be part of a rebuild and I don’t blame him. Conley and Bogey would be redundant to our plan.
We start rebuilding through the draft. Try like hell to get the 1st overall pick and get Wembanyama. The 7’3 Frenchman who they say is the best prospect in decades. Better than Chet Holmgren or a couple other options could help start the rebuild.
We have some major money to spend on Free Agency and we go after young guys with potential. Solid defenders.
Danny Ainge knows what to do. He’s already done it very successfully.
Why doesn't Mitchell? If not for Gobert Mitchell would have likely been playing on a crappy team for years like most lottery picks. Let's see him carry a crappy team like Gobert did. Exum and Burke at the 1! Seriously?
Finding and developing all-stars in a small market is hard. Don is clearly an all star, and was borderline all NBA this past season (7th in all NBA voting for guards). While I don't think he can be the best player on a championship team, I do think the team is best set up for future success keeping him, rather than moving him for pieces.
I also think it's underrated how much vets can help player development. We've seen recently how young players in MIA and PHO took big jumps with the arrival of Jimmy and CP3 (respectively). So while I expect some of Mike, Bogey, JC, Pat Bev to be moved...I would also expect (hope) some would remain. Even if that means, from an asset play, we don't maximize value, I think for team culture and player development it'll be helpful.
he was borderline all NBA before he disappeared after the all star game. Seriously why is this not the main thing being talked about? What happened? Don't need any of those guys to remain. Cheap young vets like Caboclo will do

https://www.deseret.com/2022/7/8/23190558/time-will-tell-if-utah-jazz-got-upper-hand-in-big-trade-minnesota-timberwolves
Congratulations to the Utah Jazz. They just robbed the Minnesota Timberwolves with the latter’s complete cooperation.
Really? Until the Jazz produce someone better than Gobert out of the tank Minnesota wins. They got the best player. Jazz could get many good players out of the deal and they'd still lose
History is not in their favor. In their entire 48-year history, the Jazz have drafted just under 200 players. Only nine have earned All-Star honors — Dominique Wilkins, Mark Eaton, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Andrei Kirilenko, Mo Williams, Deron Williams, Paul Millsap and Gordon Hayward.
that pretty much tells you the odds that they get someone as good as Gobert. He's the 3rd most important person in their history. They were lucky to have Malone and Stockton when they traded Dantley. Lucky to have Millsap when Deron was traded. Lucky to have Rudy when they were trying desperately to tank.
And there’s this problem: the Timberwolves are a good team. What are the chances of them having a bad season, giving the Jazz a lottery pick? There is some hope for the Jazz. The Wolves’ first-round draft picks, beginning in 2022 and moving backward to 2015, were 19, 1, 17, 11, 20, 7, 5, 1. But only one of those picks resulted in the selection of a future all-star.
Ant and Gobert would have to miss a lot of games I'd think for them to suck. Gobert could decline soon so that's the major hope here but with ANT becoming one of the best players in the game it probably won't matterr
Burak also made another curious observation: the 22nd and 23rd picks were the only first-round picks that did not produce an All-Star. And just 22 second-round picks went on to become All-Stars, or 2.5%.
the Jazz will almost certainly get a pick in the 20's. Theirs hopefully is 1 though! and they will have probably the Sixers pick too. Stacked draft so this might be their best chance of finding the next guy to lead the franchise
You know he’s absolutely going to score the basketball. His green light just got even greener, and it might get even more green as the season approaches. It wouldn’t surprise me if Mitchell averages upwards of 27 points per game in this coming season. But will the Jazz be good? Probably not. It seems like the All-Star game in Utah is carrying a lot of weight in the minds of Jazz executives, and with it being the first time in 20+ years that the ASG stops in SLC, they are definitely going to want a player in the game.
Mitchell won't be an all-star if the Jazz suck. Not usually how it works. If he pushed Gobert out than he will have no one to blame but himself. Gobert made you an all-star as he did Hayward(even though their best player didn't make it that year!)

exactly. Time to show you are as good as the hype. I don't think you are. Time to prove me wrong!
We’ve heard about the beef between Donovan and Rudy for years now. We’ve felt the awkward on-court tension between them for a couple seasons. Mitchell won’t have to worry about that now, with Rudy in Minnesota and whole open floor for him to be himself. He’ll have the opportunity to take full control of the team and be a leader, if he truly wants to.
There won't be an open floor without Rudy screening and diving to the rim. The 40 footers he loves to brick will still be open though!
It’s indeed going to be the Mitchell’s show but at this stage we need 1 healthy PG, 1 solid 3D F/PF and 1 starting C to be a playoff contender…wait and see.
why was Gobert able to win games with whatever stiffs they put on the floor with him. Exum and Burke!
Yes, he "can" lead them. However, he needs to put forth effort on defense. Also, the 4 - 20 type of shooting games need to be far fewer. Also, if he's shooting poorly on a given night, he needs to find his way to the free throw line more. Actually, he needs to do that all of the time.
he doesn't really like contact. He could try passing it. Sounds like Hardy might demand it more?
Without having Gobert and his defender standing in the lane at all times, I have a feeling that Mitchell will get to the hoop and the line a lot more often this season (provided the Jazz get a C that is more offensively capable than Gobert was)
without the number 1 screener in the game? :lol
beasley started before ant emerged and moved him to bench. he shoots the 3 at 37.5% which will be useful for the jazz and i suspect he gets many open looks if mitchell is the starting point guard. bolmaro looks like he might develop into a valuable bench player. i am most excited about the center minnesota just drafted and would seriously consider starting him and making sure he gets 20-24 mpg. vanderbilt is long and he plays a position the jazz need some toughness in. think he is only 22 so its early on him. 8 rebounds and 58% from field is more than livable (no 3 pt shot).
just don't think jazz mgmt is done dealing, and have to wait and see what comes in. ayton but be the dream get, but~~~~. with huichimara on roster, the gizzards might be willing to deal kuzma. boggy or conley for kuzma would be perfect. an expiring would do nothing but help washington.
let the summer play out guys, and don't just declare it a crap show.
Kessler should be considered a Star until he proves otherwise. As should every rookie as far as I'm concerned. No thanks on Ayton on a max deal. Don't see Ayton/Mitchell even in the playoffs!
As long as they don't bring in aging vetzz, I'm fine if the Jazz are just a young team playing fun basketball. Hopefully, they progress and maybe find a gem or two, and peak towards the end of the season and maybe be an team that can make play-in and maybe even upset a top seed.
They aren't making the play-in! :oldlol:
It's ok to have a couple of vetz, but they need to be ok with being a backup. More Earl Watson, less Mark Jackson.
That's the question with Conley and Bogie this year. It would be nice if we could trade them for some younger guys with upside that could use a little development.
Young vets only. Don't need old guys to tank!

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
2- I'm already stoaked about Vanderbuilt.... More than I probably should be, but he's only 22. We haven't had any kind of length that can slow down or shut down big wings since AK, and he can slow down anybody 1-5. If we are going small at the center, or we have a 5 who can shoot, I think he could be super useful. I know Pat Bev isn't that popular, but with him and Vanderbuilt, we've got a couple guys to really help set an example on D. I think they've got to hold onto him for awhile.
but isn't he a 4? Beverley needs to go!
Would be great, he and Donovan are buds but more important is he fills a need for the Jazz.
Bojan for Kuzma and Kispert
27. So unless he's got an expiring contract no thanks!
The two players I think will still be on Utah's team two years from now that we acquired in this trade are Bolmaro and Vanderbilt. I think Kessler has bust potential -- if he can't move laterally, he will be unplayable except for a few minutes off of the bench, like Boban. Beverley will probably be moved this off season, Malik Beasley will more than likely be traded as well some time in the next two years. Beasley reminds me a lot of Randy Foye. I think Vanderbilt could turn into a good bench forward to come in and play some defense. The player I am the most intrigued with is Bolmaro -- I really think he could be a player like Joe Ingles, a creator off of the bench. He just needs to be a shooter like he was in FC Barcelona.
let's hope he doesn't start like Foye did!
Beasley is redundant with JC but, for what he is, I really like his game! Can function on or off ball. Can spot up or put the ball on the deck and drive. Works on D, seems to at least know his assignments. (Underrated aspect of MN growth last year: they played hard on D, knew their system, and held each other accountable. D'Lo was critical to this; getting a little love in the MN media for his improved D and leadership, but not really elsewhere.) In many ways he's like JC in that he's bounced around a bit, but has never really been given consistent time and consistent opportunities, as he was blocked in DEN, seemed like he'd get run in MN, then they just kept acquiring more guards ahead of him on the depth chart. If we trade JC, I think Beas could really blossom as a 6th man!
except unlike JC he can shoot and might even pass the ball?
i just believe jazz need players who can score, and who get their own shot at times, everyone says they everywhere, even fallin off trees, but jazz seem to find them very seldom. beasley gives you that and he tries on defense
need young guys and assets only!
I don't see us getting rid of JC, the front office seems to love the dude and has been amazing for us within the role he is being asked to play. In theory if DM can play the defense we know him to be able to play then we can afford to give JC and Beasley plenty of minutes in a way that staggers them. Or in situations where we need to put our foot on the gas I could see us playing all three at times.
Just don't get it myself. He sucks! One of my least favorite Jazz players in the past 40 plus years. Doesn't play D. Doesn't pass. Can't shoot. Hardy and Ainge are really on board with this clown? I guess they are. They were apparently on board with more COTM! Can't see Hardy letting him play that way
if left to me, i start kessler and give him some genuine playing time each game. he may be the biggest surprise out of the minnesota pieces, he looks like if he gets 20-24 mpg he will take big steps forward.
If he's good enough. I can't see playing a guy that isn't good enough yet when you have a Gleague team rather you are tanking or not.
Let WK and JV share the five spot depending on match ups. If WK looks promising UA may be trade filler too.
or vice versa. Udoka has shown he can play. Can he stay healthy
I find it shocking that such a great athlete can be such a terrible shooter. Even I could shoot pretty well, back in the day. Russell Westbrick cannot
bb iq is a bigger problem when it comes to Westbrook. He should be a 6th man at this stage
A guy like Vanderbilt appears a lot like Rudy. Limited offensively to dunks and offensive rebound put backs but good defensively. It will be interesting to see which sort of defender is more impactful in the current NBA. The big man rim help defender, or the long wing on-the-top-scorer defender? I personally think the latter but we will see.
Gobert is all NBA/All D. Vanderbilt is a backup. Rudy was carrying the Jazz when he was Vanderbilt's age. When he was Mitchell's age as well!
Going small with Vando would be my preference
:coleman:
That’s a good point too. Idk - i feel like we probably need to wait at least a month before we start trying to project what the lineup should look like and who should start where. Not really worthwhile right now (although I do think Vando is one of the guys that’s pretty certain to actually play for the Jazz)
good idea since we eally have no idea if anybody now on the roster is in September

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
http
I chose to put Patrick Beverley at the bottom of this list since most of us already know him well. Given that the Jazz have a surplus of guards on their roster and Beverley could help a plethora of contenders in the league, I find it unlikely that he stays with Utah. Nonetheless, here’s a quick rundown on the scrappy, defensive oriented guard:
I would think him and Conley are gone so Mitchell and Butler can run the show
Last season, Beverley averaged 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks on 40.6/34.4/72.2 percent shooting splits. He was the heart of a young Minnesota team and is the epitome of “love them when they're on your team, hate them when they're not.” He plays with passion, energy, and grit and usually fills the “instigator” role for every team he plays on. In all honesty, if he was younger and Utah didn’t have such a logjam at the guard positions, he’d be a perfect fit for this team. But for the sake of Utah’s future, trading him would be in their best interests. I wouldn’t be surprised if a team ponied up a first-round pick for him.
Yep. He was one of the guys I thought they should have went after instead of Rubio! I'd think he's worth a 1st if O'Neale is?
1) Trade Rudy Gay and Jared Butler, plus a 2nd round draft pick (or two), plus cash, to the New York Knicks for Cam Reddish;
would either team do this? Only if that's the cost of getting rid of Gay and it's pretty high
2) Re-sign Hassan Whiteside and Eric Paschall, using the non-taxpayer mid-level exception amount ($10,490,000) and splitting the exception amount between the two players. I think the Jazz should be able re-sign Whiteside for no more than just over the taxpayer mid-level exception amount of $6,479,000 (for between $6.5 and $7 mil.--and maybe for less), and could re-sign Paschall for between $2.5 and $3 mil.
Paschall would be good for a tanking team. Whiteside is not good for any team!
3) Sign Bruno Caboclo to a vet minimum contract of $2,463,490 (only $1,836,090 of which would count towards the Jazz salary cap)
Might be able to get him on a two way? I guess he might not be eligible?
4) Move Alexander-Walker to the 3rd string PG position
He needs a chance to make the rotation or they need to move him. Same with Butler and Udoka. Udoka already proved himself if he can stay healthy
If the Jazz could get Whiteside to be more consistent as a starter, I think he'd only be about a 10 to 15% downgrade on defense from Rudy Gobert, and I believe Whiteside is as good a rebounder and a better offensive player than Gobert. Also, I think the upgrade in defensive ability of Vanderbilt and Beverley could more than make up for the loss of defensive ability caused by no longer having Gobert. The starting lineup would actually be a modest size upgrade over last season's lineup, with the additions of Whiteside (only slightly smaller than Gobert), Vanderbilt and Beverley. Mitchell would still be slightly undersized as an NBA SG, but he's better at guarding SGs than guarding PGs in the NBA, and his height disadvantage at SG has never been an issue on offense for Mitchell. This starting unit could be a bit challenged on offense at the front court positions, although I believe Whiteside has more of an offensive game than he was able to show with the Jazz last season in limited minutes.
Whiteside was on a minimum contract for a reason. Now you want top pay him big money to tank? Dream on! If Whiteside was better than Rudy at anything he wouldn't be fighting to stay in the league! He's more talented sure. Rudy has things Whiteside has never had and never will! :facepalm
The bench could be very potent offensively for the Jazz, although it would be a bit undersized defensively (except at the center position)--but that shouldn't much, if any, of a disadvantage against most second units in the NBA.
Paschall is an end of the bench energy guy and Clarkson sucks. The bench will suck too. They won't be playing with Gobert and Conley anymore! Conley is playing behind Beverley? :lol
I believe this roster could match up well with most NBA teams, especially later in the season, after the team had a chance to develop some chemistry together. I think this roster should be able to win about 45 games--which would probably put the Jazz right in the thick of being a play-in candidate for the playoffs (and as maybe a 6th or 7th seed in the playoffs--or just missing the playoffs).
Would be one of the worst defensive teams in the league. I'd put money on it to implode because of Whiteside. Hardy doesn't need to start his career with one of the biggest underachievers in the league! Udoka started ahead of him last year. See ya!
I could enjoy watching that team develop this year as the season goes on, and I believe there would be much more hope for the future for Jazz fans by doing a "retool" rather than by going into full rebuild mode--wherein the Jazz would have to hope to get lucky to draft another player or players as good as Donovan and/or Rudy, in the total crapshoot that is the NBA draft.
They better hope they can draft someone better than Mitchell or they will be losing for a long time to come. Shitshow!!!
Re-signing Juancho Hernangomez instead of Eric Paschall (with a portion of the non-taxpayer mid-level exception) or instead of Bruno Cablclco on a vet minimum contract ($2,298,385, with only $1,836,090 counting towards the salary cap) would also be a good option for the Jazz in finalizing the front court roster for next season. I really liked what he brought to the team in limited minutes during the last half of this past season. I think he might even be able to give the Jazz some good minutes as a starter at the PF position.
loved Juancho but it's time to tank
Thanks much for the info! I have been super curious about these guys! Don't get too attached though. Someone brought up a good point today. The Jazz have yet to have a press conference or anything on twitter " Welcome to Utah Malik Beasley!" or anything like that. Nadda. That reeaallly suggests they are planning on more moves this summer and any of these guys could be included.
Moreso the two young guys might not play in the summer league
1- The wolves had good defense last year, how'd they pull that off? Donovan and Hardy should really check this out and take notes. It will be interesting to see if we can duplicate this at all. They have D'lo, and we have Donovan, and we may end up with weak D at the 5 like the wolves too. D'lo was a lot more focused on D than Donovan was, but there's no reason he couldn't do this too.
How in the world are the wolves a top 10 defense?:
Probably credit the coaching staff which is good news for Gobert. Joining a top 10 D after leaving the 29th ranked D(without Rudy)

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
Let’s make something clear: Bolmaro is poor at putting the ball in the basket, both from range and inside. He shot a shockingly poor 31.5% from the field last season (granted, on a limited number of shots), and 27.8% from three. He simply can’t shoot the ball well. But, he has an exceptionally tight dribble. The dude is shifty. When he catches the ball in motion, Bolmaro is fantastic at changing directions at break-neck speed and pushing the pace. It makes him fun to watch, especially when he’s able to make some great passes like this:
He has shot well in the past in lower Spanish leagues so he certainly has the potential to hit the 3. Only 21. Sounds like maybe Manu was his hero? Loved that first gen of Argentinian players. Nice play!
He’s at his best in transition and can find players who run with him. Look at this one where he gets ahead of the defense and makes a sweet pass to the trailer:
Hardy said they were going to run. Might be why they liked this guy? Minny had a lot of young guys I'm sure they could have had(just not McDaniels).
At only 21 years old, Bolmaro has plenty of room to grow. He often gets ahead of himself and makes silly turnovers (in under 7 minutes a game, he somehow averaged 0.5 turnovers), but he’s a fun player with some on-court style. I was high on Bolmaro before the 2020 NBA Draft, and I’m likely still higher on him then most. But if he can develop some resemblance of a jumpshot, I think he could become a really impactful player on both ends.
that's not that bad on turnovers. His stats probably mean little here anyway. Was mostly garbage time. He filled the box score in his 3 gleague games
At a towering 7’1”, Walker Kessler stands as the pseudo 5th first-round draft pick the Utah Jazz received in the Rudy Gobert trade. Selected with the 22nd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft (a pick that was coincidentally Utah’s originally), Kessler fills a more prototypical big-man mold. Playing for Auburn in his sophomore season, Kessler averaged 11.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and an astronomical 4.6 blocks per game. Using his gigantic 7’4” wingspan, Kessler broke Auburn’s single-season record for blocks with a total 131. At the collegiate level, Kessler might be one of the greatest shot blockers of all time.
Decent wingspan I guess? Less than Gobert, Favors, Tony Bradley, Udoka and Bruno... Remember Udoka dominated defensively at Kansas too. Hasn't translated yet
Yet, as the NBA draft neared, many people had Walker Kessler falling on their draft boards. A large reason for that is his lack of lateral quickness. While Kessler was able to hold his own in pick-and-roles and drop-big coverage during college, many have concerns over his ability to defend against the speed, athleticism, and spacing at the NBA level. But to be honest, I think these concerns are a little overblown. When watching his film from last season, I noticed that he moves more like Rudy Gobert than Roy Hibbert. Obviously, Kessler is nowhere near the level of Gobert, but he runs and moves across the court much quicker than you’d expect. He doesn’t lumber around and has solid reaction time.
Just remember how slow Bradley was and how much quicker he got moving his feet after a few years of development. Kessler might be learning in an NBA rotation though
On the offensive end, Kessler mostly served as a rim-runner and lob threat at Auburn. His hands are solid and he’s got respectable touch around the rim. Surprisingly, Kessler shot 1.5 threes per game, but only connected on 20% of them. I’m not sure if he’s got NBA range, but I find it intriguing that he’s got confidence to shoot the ball.
the fact that he's been shooting them fairs well in him possibly becoming decent at least out there
While he’ll likely never become more than a bench-level shot blocker in the NBA, I think Kessler is an intriguing prospect that will battle for backup minutes against Udoka Azubuike next season. If you want to learn more about Kessler, Adam Spinella has a great pre-draft scouting report on him here:
Says 7'5 there.

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
https://www.slcdunk.com/the-downbeat-latest-jazz-news/2022/7/8/23199233/an-in-depth-look-jarred-vanderbilt-malik-beasley-other-recent-trade-acquisitions-the-utah-jazz-nba
The 2018 second-round draft pick projects as the most promising player Utah received in the deal. Standing at 6’9” with a 7’1” wingspan, the 23 year old from Kentucky has shown his ability to serve as a versatile defender on a playoff team. Last year for the Timberwolves, in 67 starts, Vanderbilt put up modest averages of 6.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 0.6 steals in 25 minutes a night.
23 and can't shoot the 3. He's good but Hopefully Kessler, Bombaro and the future picks are the best players in the draft. Certainly have more upside. Unless he's a wing 7'1 is not long.
Well, advanced statistics are messy and require a great deal of context. Last season, Minnesota ranked near the bottom of the league with a poor defensive rating of 111.7. Unless you are a generational defender like Rudy Gobert (consequently the player Minnesota traded for), it’s hard for a player to stand out on a poor defensive team. As a result, we have to look Vanderbilt’s film and physicals to judge his defensive potential. His strong 215lb frame and long arms give him the ability to effectively defend all five positions on the court. And that shows in plays like this:
That play is something Rudy is so good at. Even if you beat him off the dribble he can still make a play on a driver
Here, Vanderbilt uses his long arms to first disrupt the swing on the perimeter. Then, after getting behind the offensive player, Vanderbilt recovers beautifully for the block. The Jazz haven’t had this type of defensive versatility in years.
his arms aren't long unless he's a wing!
And take a look at this play, where Vanderbilt uses his long wingspan to get into passing lanes:
threw it right at him! Nothing to do with wingspan
Again, this type of perimeter length has been absent from Utah’s defensive arsenal. It will go a long way in increasing their playoff “switchability” next season (should they be that competitive, which is a question in itself).
it's not a question or shouldn't be anyway
Finally, look at this clip of Vanderbilt moving his feet well on the perimeter and poking the ball away from the offensive player. To me, this type of defense really shows why many thought that Vanderbilt was a dark horse for an All-Defensive Team selection last season:
he certainly looks like he can defend but unless he can stretch the floor or protect the rim he only has so much value in today's game. He appears to, be more of an old school 4
Personally, I believe that Vanderbilt is worth keeping for the Jazz. He’s a buy-low prospect with some fantastic upside. If he can develop a jumpshot, Utah has a great player in their hands.
Rudy is gone. Let's stay away from the word great until it's actually warranted which I'm guessing we won't need to use until at least next season!
On defense, Beasley has consistently stood as net-negative. Basketball Index ranks Beasley as a “low activity” defender and pegged him at a -1.17 D-LEBRON. Yet, contradictory to his negative catch-all advanced defensive statistics, Beasley ranks in the 82nd percentile in pick-and-roll ball handler defense, just below players like Jimmy Butler. In my eyes, Beasley’s defensive production is a product of his effort. When he tries, he’s not too bad. When he doesn’t, he’s pretty poor. Sound like a familiar story Jazz fans?
Let's just goodbye now ok?! :applause:
But at this point in his career, figuring out who Malik Beasley is on the court is less difficult than finding out who he is off the court. In 2021, Beasley served 120 days in jail due to charges of felony threats of violence and felony drug possession. Those...don’t sound too great. Has Beasley turned a page since serving time in jail? Maybe! He hasn’t had any run-ins with the law since then. But obviously, this still stands as a big question mark on his resume.
He would have never played for the Jazz when Larry was alive. Ainge is supposed to have the same values?

Re: 2022 off season Post Gobert. A new era begins
https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/09/utah-jazz-debate-series-three-ways-utah-won-the-gobert-trade/
The Jazz will now be looking to move forward with Mitchell as the clear star and leader of the franchise, but after nine seasons with Utah, it’s a good idea to pay tribute to the star defensive center. Gobert was a warrior and a constant defensive presence for this squad, and his departure comes with both negative and positive ramifications.
good luck being a star on a bad team!
This was perhaps the biggest factor in moving Rudy Gobert, as the Jazz were able to acquire a stockpile of draft picks, which they can use to add different, more fitting pieces to this team to make a run, or, they can simply move Donovan Mitchell, and have a gigantic haul of draft picks going forward. Either way, moving Gobert was necessary, and to get five first round draft picks in return was better than anyone could have expected, and now it opens up the future of the Jazz to go in whichever direction Danny Ainge and the front office desire.
Mitchell and assets is what you want. If he doesn't like it he can go too! moving your best player was necessary?
Like the rest of the NBA, the Utah Jazz are waiting to see what happens with Kevin Durant’s trade situation, but once that clears up, there are many targets that the Jazz can look to acquire with all this newfound draft capital. Whether Utah look to make moves to win now or whether they want to completely rebuild the franchise and move on from Donovan Mitchell, the astronomical haul in the Rudy Gobert trade is what made this possible, and is one of the biggest reasons why this was such a win for Utah.
please tell me the moves that will put them in a win now situation? Collins is the only one I've liked. At least he's not on a max deal. I doubt they would be any good still though without Gobert!
The partnership between Mitchell and Gobert has been deteriorating for years, and while it may not stem from Rudy’s lack of offensive game, it certainly played a role in their decreasing lack of chemistry on the court. This was evident by the fact that Mitchell averaged less than 2 passes, not assists to Gobert per game, and this move is clearly best for both of them, as it clears them up to be the best version of themselves on their own.
Gobert is certainly in a better situation than he's ever been. Sad that the Jazz wasted the past 7 years plus of him! I'm guessing Mitchell might not like his new situation unless he doesn't mind losing
With scoring and stretch fives being the norm in today’s NBA, it was time for the Jazz to add scoring to go along with Mitchell and Bojan Bogdanovic, adding an element that Utah haven’t had in all their failed playoff runs over the past six seasons. This means a downgrade defensively, but the potential added offense will help this team come playoff time, and if they can add defense at other positions, it makes the trade all the more worth it for the Jazz.
they had the best offense in the league. It was historically great before the injuries came. It sucked in the playoffs. New coach could change that. Bojan and Mitchell leading the D isn't encouraging!
The Utah Jazz didn’t want to be saddled with two massive contracts moving forward, and moving on from Gobert was a great way to free up cap flexibility for the future, giving them the chance to make more moves in the coming weeks. It’s not yet been confirmed which direction the Jazz want to go in following this trade, but if they want to acquire a big name (such as John Collins, Myles Turner or DeAndre Ayton), this gives them the ability to potentially find a way to make it happen.
lottery
It doesn’t need to be this off-season either, so if Utah want to play the long, patient game, then this allows them to be patient in waiting for a star playing to pair with Donovan Mitchell down the line.
might be waiting a long time. We may have still been waiting now if not for the emergence of Gobert. Hayward an all star without Gobert? Probably not. Mitchell certainly wouldn't be. Would have been no need for Conley
On the other hand, if the Jazz want to go into a full rebuild mode, similar to Oklahoma City, this new flexibility will allow them to take on a large salary or two in order to stockpile more draft picks for the future, especially if a team like the Knicks come calling for Donovan Mitchell with 4-5 first round picks. It would have no doubt been a tough decision to trade the franchise’s best ever center away, but given all the flexibility it gives them going forward, it was no doubt the best move this franchise could have made.
Plenty of doubt. If Gobert ends up the best player in the trade(which is likely) Minnesota wins
-

However, it was not the perfect trade for the franchise and it may have not been as one-sided as a move as initially thought.
Minnesota got the best player. They won the trade until proven otherwise
The only way they could even make a move to add a center is by shipping out some of the draft capital they gained in the trade, which might upset some fans who believe the future of the franchise depends on drafting well. This is probably true, but if Utah wants to win now then they need to make moves to do so, even if it means sacrificing aspects of their future.
they can't sign a free agent or trade something else?:facepalm
When the dust settles from the trade, it should be clear that Utah has assets, but no guarantees that the assets will pan out. They will need to work their young players, find talent, and make other deals with teams to add frontcourt players to the roster, otherwise, the return could be next to nothing.
they'll probably get something. Not likely one of the best players in the league though

not sure how clear it is. I'd guess they'll start the season with some vets around Mitchell to give him a chance to show he can lead them. When he fails the fire sale will happen. If he wants to be part of a tanking team and the clear face of the franchise we will know then

Had a fuller roster tonite in the win. Liked what I saw from Bolmaro. He didn't shoot very good. I thought it looked pretty good at first but I think he has a bit of a hitch. They let him run the offense quite a bit. He's pretty good with the ball in his hands and will pass the ball Wasn't afraid to bang on D. Kind of reminded me of Nocioni or maybe Delfino?
Juang has an NBA body.
Bruno, Butler and Cockburn played well again. Morsell also played for first time. I think Funderburke is the only one that hasn't yet

which ones from Minnesota aren't they happy with? Guess we'll find out soon!
Ainge: "I agree with that. … We talked about those things a lot. But we'll be able to talk more when we have our team together and our final roster's put together and be able to answer the second part of your question more. I honestly don't know."
come on Danny. You're smarter than that. You really think they can be competitive without Gobert? Doubt Danny even wants to. Only reason they will is because of Mitchell. He'll get until the trade deadline to show it
Zanik: "What it does is allows you to have a lot of very interesting conversations with teams calling because of just the flexibility that you have. So you have a chance to talk about different concepts or deals — both now and really for the next five or six years. And our goal is to continue to add primary players and build a base that has a chance to be competitive and win a title down the road. So those assets allow you different pathways to accomplish that; whether you're selecting or you're moving those picks on for other players."
if you have flexibility the next 5 or 6 years it will likely mean that you suck!

https://www.slcdunk.com/2022/7/9/23202336/utah-jazz-look-much-improved-in-summer-league-win-over-atlanta-hawks
Should we talk about Bruno? Yes, let’s talk about Bruno. Caboclo had 11 points, 8 assists, and was a perfect 5/5 from the field. Caboclo has looked like an NBA rotation big in every game with the Jazz. With the upcoming season not far away, and the Jazz still reshaping their roster, they’d be smart to hold onto Caboclo. He should, at the very least be invited to training camp. With Rudy Gobert gone, the Jazz have a major hole at the center spot and Caboclo looks like a perfect, mobile, switchable big that could be a nice backup center option. And if the Jazz go into a full rebuild, it’s not a bad idea to take a chance on guys like this that could be options for the team years into the future. Whatever happens with Caboclo, it’s been one of the fun stories of this summer league.
Let's say he's just a 3rd big or a gleague guy before we make him a backup since that's what he is. A guy on the fringe of the NBA.

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/09/2-takeaways-utah-jazz-las-vegas-summer-league-game-one/
Sure, they are still lacking a prospect that’s pushing the NBA roster immediately and making headlines around Las Vegas, but for Jazz fans, to see the improvement in the team as a whole from the last few days is promising, and this is a team that could really make some noise over the next week. Next up is the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, and after tonight’s performance, the Jazz could go on a quick run here in Summer League.
Butler and Bolmare should get a shot at the rotation. Why trade Rudy if you aren't going to play young guys after years of COTM ignoring them?
The Utah Jazz have head to have a single player stand up head and shoulders above the competition or even his teammates, but over the past 3 games, they’ve had three names that have consistently performed and led this team, as they start Las Vegas Summer League by taking their record to 1-0. James Palmer Jr. and Jared Butler were expected to be solid for this team, but the name that has been standing out over the past three games most of all is Brazillian center, Bruno Caboclo.
Bruno is the guy I expected something from.
Palmer?
Unfortunately, neither man stood out in this game, and while there’s definitely no reason for Jazz fans to be worried, it would have been good to see if either one could step up and make a name for themselves under such a bright spotlight. They only managed eight points between them, but other aspects of their game showed why both have great potential, and if the Jazz can be patient with their development, we may be looking at future Utah Jazz role players.
Bolmaro stood out. I'll take him. You get Palmer! :lol
His first Las Vegas game saw him put together a very level headed 15, 7 & 3, and if this is a sign of things to come, the Jazz could be looking at a viable option for a point guard off the bench in 2022. The guard situation for the Jazz at the NBA right now is muddled, and won’t be cleared up over the next few weeks, but if Butler can continue playing a controlled game in Summer League, he could play himself into significant minutes for this team in the future.
how do you know when it will be clear? Could be at any time
The Utah Jazz finally moved on from Rudy Gobert, trading him to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a haul of players and picks, and while the deal was a great one for the Jazz, it leaves them with a massive hole in their lineup ahead of the 2022/23 NBA season. With plenty of newfound draft capital and cap space, there are plenty of options for Utah to try and replace their three-time Defensive Player of the Year, but how exactly they go about filling this hole depends completely on which direction this franchise is looking to go in the near future.
finally moved on from a statue!!! :facepalm
Udoka, Kessler and a vet. Kessler to the Stars if not ready. It's not complicated
That will mean the Jazz may have to pay a bit more than they would have liked, but if they include a player or two and a first round pick, they may be able to make the trade happen, and bring back a center who is seemingly on the rise, and can help this team compete in 2022/23. If the Jazz are to look outside the organization for center help, Poeltl is likely the best candidate, and at only 26-years old, he could not only help Utah compete in 2022/23, but he could be a consistent part of this franchise for years to come.
they aren't going to compete but he'd actually be a good young vet if they don't think Kessler is ready yet
While the Jazz haven’t officially gone into a rebuild by trading Donovan Mitchell, they may need to look to some younger players to fill roles, and while it’s not the ideal move, they could ask Walker Kessler, an Auburn rookie they received in the Gobert trade to fill the Frenchman’s shoes. We haven’t yet seen him don the Jazz Notes jersey, as he was left off the Summer League roster (presumably due to the fact that the trade didn’t become official until Summer League had commenced), so it may be a little premature to dub him as the next starter, but he has all the tools to make it happen.
let's start with Udoka since he has already been solid as the starter! definitely premature to put a rookie ahead of him
Given the amount of picks the Jazz got for Rudy Gobert, as well as the young players they can include in the deal, this one seems like a no-brainer, as they could sign Turner to a long term deal, and begin to build this team around Mitchell and Turner, which could help as they look to stay afloat in the Western Conference. Turner’s services won’t come cheap, as the Pacers have been incredibly patient with dealing him, but if Utah believe he can be a big part of a team that can retool and compete in the Western Conference, then don’t be surprised to see them do all they can to make this trade happen.
building around Mitchell and Turner!
defensively Turner is good and he can stretch the floor. He actually might be a great fit next to Vanderbilt since he is a poor rebounder. Hard to get too excited about Mr.Hype and a role player leading the squad through the 2020's though. Ainge has to be thinking a lot bigger than that
What about Hassan Whiteside? I thought he looked very good at backup center for the Jazz last year, is still available in free agency, and could probably be re-signed with no more than a portion of the Jazz's non-taxpayer mid-level exception-- probably in the $6.5 to $7 mil. range (and perhaps for less than that). Of course I'd like either DeAndre Ayton or Myles Turner, but I expect Phoenix and Indiana to do a swap, unless Phoenix actually makes a move for Kevin Durant, in which case one them may be available. Playing Kessler would be a full-out tank move. He's about two years away from being two years away.

God no!!!

https://thejnotes.com/2022/07/10/rumors-suggest-conley-bogdanovic-next/
The Jazz have allegedly been using Bojan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley in other trade talks, although it is still unclear what they are asking for.
The Jazz have been dangling Mike Conley and Boban Bogdanovic in trade talks the last few days, per sources.
The Jazz are willing to attach first round pick(s) to help facilitate a potential deal.

Where's Clarkson, Gay,Beverley and Beasley? Can't imagine having to attach picks unless it's for Gay. Conley sucked in the playoffs but he's still good
Getting both Conley and Bogdanovic’s contracts off the books would help open up some cap space, as both have multiple years left on their deals that add up to roughly $106 million over five total seasons. If Utah is serious about attaching first-round picks to these contracts, then they are either looking for a massive return of win-now players, maybe who can help overload the frontcourt, or maybe they want to nab a few future pieces, although if that’s the case why would they be willing to part with picks?
you have no idea if it will open up cap space. They might take on more salary
We’ve explored some trades Utah could make to find the missing piece, and all of them were fairly similar to what the rumors suggest, so it would not be a shock if Utah decided to win now. With Phoneix seemingly on the decline, Denver still without a solid identity as their best players come back, and both Los Angeles teams are fledgling, the West still belongs to Golden State, and Utah could throw their hat in the ring.
You forgot Minnesota! Jazz are competing for lottery balls rather they know it yet or not. I'd like to think Danny is smart enough to know that but I've got my doubts since COTM still had a job!
