if the Jazz are successful in trading for a point guard, that doesn't close the door on Utah's effort to retain starting point guard George Hill, who will be an unrestricted free agent in July.
Depends on who they get. Beverley I can see with Hill because he doesn't make much. Jazz probably see Hill as a great fit even if he's playing the 2
The night when he boldly acquired a top-10 pick in the NBA draft, Utah Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey also chose Rudy Gobert.
No other snapshot of Jazz history illustrates the uncertainty of picking players quite like Lindsey's first night in charge of the franchise's draft operation in June 2013. He was celebrated for moving up to No. 9 and taking point guard Trey Burke. Lindsey then landed another first-round pick and grabbed Gobert at No. 27 in a move that was treated as an afterthought in comparison to Burke's arrival.
I certainly took note of a notoriously cheap team buying an extra first. Also got Neto late in the 2nd but no one likes Neto despite the fact that he can actually play despite not having the wingspan or being the great athlete everyone seeks
The Jazz's draft strategy is complicated because there's no way of knowing if they will be able to re-sign two valuable players who are free agents: forward Gordon Hayward and point guard George Hill. Whether via trade, the draft or some combination, the Jazz have to impress Hayward about their future or pre-emptively compensate for losing him. Yet if Hayward and Hill stay in Utah, the Jazz will have payroll issues that make guaranteed contracts for two first-round picks a bit unwieldy.
Can trade the picks later. Not complicated really other than maybe having them sit out summer league without a deal which isn't ideal
That's why they're believed to be considering international players such as Latvian center Anzejs Pasecniks and German forward Isaiah Hartenstein, who could remain in Europe for a year or two.
Cool! My guy.
If they package a player with their two first-round picks, the Jazz could move up to about No. 12 and take the likes of Louisville guard Donovan Mitchell or Gonzaga center Zach Collins.
They could? Seems like a big leap to me. Maybe if they use some cap space or other young guys picks they have
BYU's Eric Mika, also a Lone Peak grad, Utah State's Jalen Moore, a Sky View grad, and Weber State's Jeremy Senglin are unlikely to be drafted but should have free-agent opportunities.
Sounds like Mika could be drafted
ESPN.com this week ranked Gobert one of the top players ever taken in his draft slot, although he hasn't matched the exploits of the all-time best 27th pick, Dennis Rodman.
I'd take him over Rodman any day
Sadly, not having a lottery pick, the Jazz may not be a contender unless they can find a way to get involved in a three team trade. They may be able to go after him if he makes it to free agency though.
another intern? Sign and trade means during free agency Paul agrees to sign with a team and the Hawks are willing to help them do it
Yep and still have cap space to sign a starting sg plus the mid-level for another good rotation player. Vets would line up to play for the vet minimum for a top 4 team. You wouldn't hate to see Exum go?
I was a Jazz fan before Exum and I'll still be one after! Same with Ingles.
Just want to see the team get better.

Well you'd think everyone would want them to get better but it seems like more people want Exum starting which to me doesn't make them better unless he suddenly turns it all around.
Love Ingles and he had a great year but was disappointing in their losses in GS. I think he has to go to unless he agrees to sign very cheaply and he'd be stupid to no matter how close him and Hayward are or how much he loves it here

Im basically on the thought process of if we keep Hayward then Exum is the obvious asset to trade out to help with immediate improvements. If we lose Hayward we may as well keep him and see if he can develop.

Re: The 2017 off-season...Hayward, Hill, Ingles...?
Not sure Exum has a lot of value. He's still young and is a great athlete so I'm sure there are some tanking teams that would take him just not sure the return will be much. Clears a bit of money anyway.
