Another interesting issue that popped up against the Clippers was defensive rebounding. Nothing was more painful than seeing Ivica Zubac grab OREBs on multiple possessions and Kawhi grab two in a row during crunch time in the fourth. Cody Zeller and Bismack Biyombo are an excellent center rotation at offensive rebounding - the Hornets as a whole are among the best OREB teams, tied with the Jazz and Celtics for 4th at 11.1 per game. (The Pelicans lead the league at 11.6.) For a team that doesn’t generate many turnovers, the Jazz need to take care of the ball defensively and end possessions, or risk giving their opponents additional extra chances. Rudy, Derrick, and Royce are holding down the fort, but the wings and guards (especially Bojan and Joe, who average around 4.5 per 36 min) need to step it up. Against the Clippers, Bogdanovic, Ingles, Conley, and Clarkson totaled 3 rebounds in their collective 111 minutes on court. Rebounding is just one of those fundamentals that casual fans likely underrate in importance when it comes to stellar defense and winning games. With this game against the Hornets, look for the Jazz to rebound and start another winning streak.
pretty sure Ingles has picked up his rebounding this year. Something he's never done. Can't really expect it now just because you choose not to play with a PF

Mitchell and Bojan. Mitchell at least brings some other stuff to the table
First off, Jeff Green was an offseason acquisition that didn’t work out for the Jazz. He was part of a bench unit that included Tony Bradley and Ed Davis as backups for Rudy Gobert. I don’t think Green was the cause of any chemistry problems, I just think the Jazz weren’t that deep of a team and there were players that didn’t fit.
Bradley played after Green was let go but let's continue to blame him for all their problems! Green was certainly a big part of their problems mostly because the Jazz expected too much for a minimum contract
There’s always room for improvement and if the Jazz could do a better job of rebounding it would certainly make them more lethal. The simple answers are better communication and basic positioning and boxing out. That’s how the non-center players can do better. It also would be nice if Gobert had a better sense of where he was batting the ball when he taps out offensive rebounds, that kind of awareness could result in more offensive boards or just cut down on transition opportunities for the other team.
two words. Starting PF
As for developing a hook shot or even something else that he could use away from the basket, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that either. He definitely could work on it but that’s more of an offseason task than anything. It’s not going to happen between now and May 22.
his hook and face up both look good. Confidence is the issue
So far, there’s little reason to believe they can’t hang with anybody. (They’ll get their first look at the Lakers this week, albeit without All-NBA big man Anthony Davis or starting guard Dennis Schroder.)
plenty of reason to think they can't hang with he Lakers
The Jazz didn’t stay in rebuilding mode for long, partially because Snyder just couldn’t help himself. He identified the unique ability of a gangly 22-year-old and decided to reimagine his team’s whole identity as a function of this raw youngster who his predecessor had mostly left on the shelf.
Really? Not sure they've figured it out still 6 years later
Gobert’s selection is probably the most secure, and the reasons why have very little to do with the number above. The coaches who select Western All-Stars are the ones who have to build game plans to deal with Gobert’s ridiculous impact at both ends of the court. The way that Utah’s entire defense is structured around his game-changing ability to guard multiple people on the same play, to deter, to scare the crap out of people. But also the way Utah’s offense is predicated on Gobert’s roll gravity. His rim-finishing ability and sheer, unblockable size open up a ton of Utah’s league-leading 3-point attempts.
twice he didn't make it when he should have so he's hardly more secure than Mitchell. PPG and hype wins out sadly
Mitchell, an All-Star last season, is subtly better at just about everything today. He’s also doing it in fewer minutes, since his 24-6 Jazz are kicking everybody’s butts and earning him some early rest in most games. Mitchell was third in the NBA in clutch field goals last season, but this year has barely had to play clutch minutes at all — only 20 total minutes all season where the margin has been withing five points coming down the stretch.
didn't deserve it last year
Jazz 112, Clippers 116: Donovan Mitchell. This was a pretty easy call, even before his late heroics (12 points in the final minute and a half) gave Utah a bit of hope down the stretch. He and Bojan Bogdanovic (23 points) were the two Jazz players who consistently produced offense against LAC’s solid defense, and Mitchell did enough other stuff to edge Bogey, including very solid defense on the much bigger Paul George (who didn’t get a shot off in the 40% of his night that Mitchell was guarding him). Mitchell logged a 35-4-5 line, plus three steals.
his play in the 1st was the game so no!
Wednesday 2/24, Jazz vs. Lakers: The Jazz finally get a look (sort of) at the team that has to be considered their biggest obstacle on the path to contention. They were 0-3 against LeBron James’ squad last season, and a lot of their offseason retooling had to do with preparing themselves to see the supersized Lake Show sooner or later in the postseason. Davis (Achilles strain) and Schroder (health & safety) will both miss Wedensday’s game, and they’re two of LAL’s three top scorers and minute-getters. Not that it’s much consolation, though, as Utah will still have to deal with the MVP frontrunner. The Lakers have lost three of four, and three of the four before that included at least one overtime — making their regulation record 2-3-3 in the last two weeks and change.
yeah Favors was the answer!
2. This year, the lineups with two starters have been really good. That’s typically Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley, along with some combination of Jordan Clarkson, Georges Niang, Joe Ingles, and Miye Oni. In those minutes, the Jazz have outscored teams by 14 points per 100 possessions. That’s meant Snyder can play everyone fewer minutes, and there’s much less of a white-knuckle ride in the bench times.

which tells you it's all about Conley
A note on technical fouls. Rudy received his second tech of the season after hitting the floor and screaming at the officials when they charged a foul to him and he felt it was the wrong call. That was quickly followed by Quin Snyder lashing out at the officials, earning himself a technical too. Then Snyder jumped to Gobert’s defense and challenged the play. Snyder often uses his challenges to show support for the players, even when the right call was originally made and I really like that approach. Also, a technical foul for being frustrated and emotional is one that I’ll never be mad at. You’d rather have players on the court that care that deeply about a single play than you would players who don’t care.
no he's wasting too many challenges early on calls unlikely to be reversed
The Utah Jazz on paper are back to a full bill of health right now. That being said, something seems a little off with Favors right now. He was highly effective early on this year but currently seems to struggle. I wonder if that plantar fasciitis is acting up again. For the Lakers, Davis is going to be held out for ~4 weeks. If last night’s loss to the Washington Wizards is any indication, they may drop more games than you’d expect before the All Star break. Also, having LeBron carry this big of a load is a tough ask of the veteran. The Clippers had quite the injury report for a while there, but they too are back to good health. However, Kawhi is known for resting regularly which may impact their results from time to time.

more knee and back. I'd guess him anting to be a backup has a lot to do with his health. Might be better off with him at least short term just to see what Morgan has
