There are going to be games when the Utah Jazz just don’t have the same energy and pep as they do on other nights. There are going to be nights when their legs feel heavy and they have to find a way to push through the weight of the condensed regular season.

https://www.slcdunk.com/2021/3/1/22307066/common-themes-from-utah-jazzs-7-losses
For example, the Utah Jazz split the season series against the New York Knicks, yet blew out the Milwaukee Bucks twice. MIL is certainly a superior team to NYK, so how do we explain a counter-intuitive result?
sometimes you just match up with certain teams better than others. I don't think they match up well with the Lakers which will be a huge issue if I am correct
Every team but MIN has big, powerful forwards. For LAC it’s Leonard and Batum. For BKN it’s Durant and Green. For NYK it’s Barrett and Randle. For DEN it’s Porter Jr. and Millsap. For MIA it’s Butler and Robinson. For PHX it’s Bridges and Crowder. Size at the forward spot means a team can create defensive havoc and/or break a defense caught in a disadvantage with ease.
you think having no PF has anything to do with that?
The most concerning of all these strategies is the isolation since such a scenario often removes Gobert from the defensive equation. The counter is a difficult application of weakside zone or double-teaming and quick rotation. There’s only so much that can be done on the Jazz personnel front to improve the perimeter defense.
Hardly. They have two open roster spots. They have Bojan who needs to go and might have some value to someone hopefully. If they had a PF. O'Neale could concentrate on the perimeter instead of rebounding and guarding bigger players
A great example of talent is the Brooklyn Nets. Early in the year Utah got hammered by the Nets which resulted in the 2nd worst defensive outing for the Jazz all year. Through half the season, the Nets have the most efficient offense in the league. No wonder they caused us problems. They have a lot of talent.
I'd forget about that game. Totally different team now
All but two teams (BKN, MIA) are even or better in “Points Swing”. “Points Swing” is a metric that calculates the net points scored off turnovers and offensive boards. These 7 teams are good at capitalizing off of extra opportunities, a strategy that helps offset a cold shooting night.
the Jazz turn it over a lot and without a PF these particular teams can get to boards other teams don't
Normally, the 7 opponents Utah lost to score 1.25 PPP in transition. When they faced the Jazz, they scored 1.46 PPP in transition. While they didn’t get in transition as much as usual (see below), they were extremely efficient. Transition defense isn’t one of Utah’s strengths.
another thing that might improve if O'Neale was getting back on D instead of pounding the offensive glass instead of the PF they don't have or won't play
FiveThirtyEight projects the Jazz to finish with the #1 seed in the West by 8 games and Basketball Reference projects the same seed by nearly 9 games. None of these losses will come back to haunt the Jazz towards the end of the regular season.
Who knows? All it could take is Rudy going down for a month again
This is the best chance Utah has to win the chip in 25 years. Whatever it takes to stack the odds and insulate yourself from weakness, Jazz must pursue it.
yep but I doubt they will. There's always next year! :facepalm
These scenarios just support an idea that it’s better to trade Bogie for a defensive player if Jazz wants to ensure higher chances of multiple wins in the playoffs and the title.

someone gets it
[h=4]The question then is who?[/h]
I haven’t done enough research but I’m not convinced that Tucker is the answer (probably because of the bias of him coming from the Rockets and trolling Rudy when he got emotional about the all-star snub) and I don’t know who else is available.

as far as I'm concerned they'd be better with Morgan so any trade that gets rid of Bojan is a good one. Maybe get under the tax. Maybe improve their depth. Open up another roster space.
[h=2]Utah Jazz trade target: PJ Tucker[/h]
Went into trade machine and I'm not sure how they get him. Maybe if it's a multi team deal?
One potential target that makes a lot of sense is PJ Tucker. The fact that the Houston Rockets wouldn’t be asking a ton in exchange for him makes it even more plausible.
they want someone that can come in and play which is Bojan, Niang and maybe Morgan, Oni and Brantley who they can't trade. Bojan and Niang make sense. Not sure I'd give up Oni for him and certainly not Morgan

It’s still technically possible, but by waiving Harrison instead of moving him into another team’s cap space or trade exception, the Jazz now how have a $770K cap charge for for the waived guard that they can’t remove from their salary sheet. That makes the likelihood of maneuvering their way under the tax line a bit more complicated.
Teams are getting up to play them — talented ones. Take the Pelicans for example. It's somewhat surprising New Orleans (now 15-19) has struggled as much as it has this season. Williamson is a beast, Brandon Ingram is a former All-Star, JJ Reddick is one of the all-time best shooters, Lonzo Ball and Eric Bledsoe are better than serviceable guards. This team should flat out be better than its record. The Jazz brought that team out.
Yikes. I don’t even know what to say about this quarter. This could not have gone much worse for Utah. The spotty defense from the 2nd turned absolutely terrible in the 3rd. I hate to say it but Derrick Favors is not Derrick Favors right now. The Jazz spent big money to ensure they had great backup center minutes behind Rudy Gobert and that is just not happening right now. I don’t know if the guy needs some nights off to get a little more healthy or what but it’s hurting. Either way the Jazz coughed up the lead and then just bombed the quarter away to the tune of a 99-88 defect to end the 3rd.
