Why the hell do we even bicker about on these boards? 98% of the people have Jordan as their no.1 or 2.
Can I ask why you have Shaq and Kobe above Bird/Magic but not Duncan? I find that particular ranking a little odd, so I'm just interested.

I have to admit my rankings from 4-10 can shuffle and its extremely, extremely close.
The main differentiator is I think Shaq at his absolute peak may be the most dominant big man ever (yes even above Wilt and Russell head-to-head). I'm just talking pure peak.
So I kinda give him a bounce there, he's also one of only three men in the top 10 to have led a team to a threepeat (Russell and Jordan being the other 2).
I'd really like to put Bird higher, but I think the injuries really hurt his longevity. I like Bird a lot though.
Magic is great, but I think he also had the most stacked team of the top players maybe with the exception of Russell (relative to the rest of the 60s).
Duncan is great, but I think he's kind of transformed himself into more of a role player the last few years. If he was the defacto no.1 on all 5 Spurs titles, I'd have him much higher.
Kobe has 5 championships, 2 as the team leader, and really impressive longevity, which Bird/Magic didn't have the benefit of.

I'd have Wilt leapfrog Bird/Magic but other than that I'm cool with this list altho Lebron will probably work his way up to like 5 or 6 once he retires.

What the hell...
Players 1-8, in no order:
Kareem
Wilt
Russell
Oscar
Magic
Bird
Jordan
Shaq
For players 9 and 10, choose two from the following:
Kobe
Duncan
Hakeem
Lebron
KG
Some other players in consideration (I don't know enough about them) for my second tier...
Baylor, Pettit, Barry, Mikan, Cousy, Doc, Hondo
Third tier, well beyond the top 10, starts with players like Karl, Moses, Barkley...

Magic
Shaq
Bird

Whilst I get KG had shitty help, what argument does he actually have over Duncan as a player? Here are their career, prime and peak stats:
Career:
Duncan: 21/12/3/1/3/.548 TS%
Garnett: 18/11/3/1/1/.525 TS%
Prime:
Duncan (99-07): 24/13/4/1/3/.560 TS%
Garnett (99-08): 22/13/5/1/2/.523 TS%
Peak:
Duncan (02-03): 26/15/5/1/4/.572 TS%
Garnett (03-04): 25/15/5/1/2/.520 TS%
Duncan was a far more efficient scorer because he dominated the low post; he didn't settle for outside jumpers, which was KG's main problem. He was also the better post defender and rim protector, which is by far the most important defense come Playoff time. Duncan has had many notable series where he shut his man down; I honestly can't think of a single for one for prime KG. In fact, Dirk had the series of his life against him in 02.
Not all things are created equal, but Duncan has the better stats and accolades. We're not comparing early 2000s T-Mac and Kobe here, where the former arguably had better production, just not the teams. KG almost always had a drop-off come Playoff time, and Duncan almost always stepped up. Garnett might be the most versatile big ever, but history has shown that the players who dominate in a few areas are almost always more likely to succeed than those that are good at everything.

That may be part of his reasoning. I'm not sure, as I'm not him, but I view Duncan and KG as similarly talented players. Duncan is better in the low post, KG in the high. Duncan the better shot blocker/rim protector, KG is arguably the greatest PnR defender of all time. Different strengths, and a (possibly) more rounded game, is likely the crux of his argument.
