I remember watching him as a kid, thinking he was only in the NBA cause he knew how to fight. :oldlol:
Oddly enough, there was a moment in which NBA teams signed 'bruisers'. Players that were somewhat skilled, but were mainly there to be physical.
What strikes me is, almost all of these players don't have highlights on youTube. Not just because technology was different, but because most of these cats don't have many highlights worth looking at. Most of these player's games are very basic and fundamental.
I'm not sure I'd agree with that. Largely I feel the absence of highlights has more to do with a lack of focus on these players, lack of solid footage, and a typically lower amount of highlights due to their lesser skill (in comparison to contemporaries like Wilkins, Jordan, and Kemp).
Of course, they weren't all exciting, but I find them to be very similar to players in today's league in terms of comparable highlight-making. Just to take a recent post in this thread - Walt Williams: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1i1yTcd2QU
That's a nifty two-hand 360 dunk. And that surely wasn't Walt's only sick highlight.

Again, I'm not sure it's a matter of players being simpler. I think it's just a matter of there not being a ton of folks out there willing to seek and comb through 80's Sonics games and 90's Lakers games just to find their best Sedale Threatt highlights for a mixtape.

I agree 100% and is actually kinda what I wanted to also state as well.
Found some slightly obscure 90's nostalgia player YouTube mixes by Misiek, there seems to be a lot on there, I pulled a few at random:
Antoine Carr (footage mostly from his Jazz days when he looked like an extra from a 70's Blaxploitation flick, with the badass beard and bald head. Once upon a time - 1990-91 - he put up 20ppg for the Kings, I'd love to see more of that as I was only 8 years old at the time)
Shandon Anderson
Matt Maloney
Issac Austin
Grant Long
Greg Ostertag (!)
I haven't watched all of them so can't vouch for what you may find. :D

Yeah, not to sound like an old man, but those guys in the 90s were better ballers than the guys these days.
The guys these days are better athletes, for the most part... but almost every one of those players listed would be balling hard today.
A lot of the players I would list have already been listed.
What about Antoine Carr? best glasses.

Not really obscure, but most only know him by this one moment. First jersey I ever owned.

Mason was far more than a bruiser. he had so many intangibles. not like drawing that offensive foul flop or anything, but he could guard most people on the court. hell, he even gave mj a run for his money in that 104-72 whoopin the knicks put on the 72-10 bulls :lol

Anyone who watched his game knew that Mason was way more than just an enforcer.
His handle was so good that he frequently brought the ball up the court and got the team into its offensive sets.
He won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 1995; was named to the 1996-'97 All-NBA Third Team, and to the All-Defensive Second Team.
Dude had a very high bb IQ. He was a better version of MWP. Both grew up in Queens, NY, coincidentally.

No love for the immortal Yinka Dare :confusedshrug:
Watching some old highlights of Clarence Weatherspoon looks like Baby Barkley and a rich man Draymond Green.
Pooh Richardson
Sasha Danilovic was that dude
No love for Darrell Armstrong?!
Mookie Blaylock
Matt Geiger's dad.
Charlie Ward
Joe Klein

I couldn't stand Charlie Ward. Growing up as a Knicks fan, I hated seeing him on the court.

Lol. What about Hubert Davis?
Eric Murdock, Rex Walters, Bobby Hurly, Matt Geiger, Sam Bowie, Eddie Johnson, Michael Adams, Jeff Malone
Mario Ellie, Hayward Workman
Calbert Cheaney
Kenny Anderson.
Miss that 90s era PG when the position was really more to run the team and offence. As much as I like the Bulls, they kinda broke that model and since then teams are kinda more like "PG can be optional".

Always thought he should have played football ha. Absolutely amazing that he played NBA, just that he could have been even better in the NFL perhaps?
Harold Miner, the original next Jordan.
