What's your obsession with average players? You make a living asking about them in the NBA :lol and now you ask about Dotel. Dotel was supposed to be great, I remember him coming up with the Mets. He couldn't cut it as a starter so he became a relief pitcher. Had good stuff, pretty sure he closed elsewhere. But never amounted to much more than a good relief pitcher. I remember him walking a lot of people. That's problematic for a reliever.

What other player did I even mention?

Bauer suspended by MLB and Kershaw placed on DL with injury.
The Dodgers........DONE. San Fran and San Diego look way stronger anyway. I'm thinking it's either Boston or Houston coming out of the AL and it's either San Fran or San Diego coming out of the NL.

I would prefer the White Sox make it out of the AL. I like parity in sports, but the Red Sox and Astros have the experience so I'm kind of leaning that way. We shall see. I'm still hoping the Braves turn things around, but it's not looking that way, unless they make several trades.

Re: Official MLB 2021 season thread...
The Dodgers are not done. They've dealt with as many injuries as any team in the league so far and are still 20 games over.
They'll end up with at least 95 wins still and if they can get healthy for the playoffs are still the favorites.
-
Re: Official MLB 2021 season thread...
The only teams the Dodgers will play for the rest of July are the Rockies, Dbacks and Giants.
It's more likely the Dodgers take the division lead by August 1 than fall behind the Padres.

Mets bullpen implodes, especially their 2 best guys Lugo and Diaz. Lugo I'm good with but I can't stand Diaz. Dude is as fraud as it gets. When he's not well, he'll blow a 6 run lead (pretty sure he did that a couple years back against the Nats... with a walkoff grand slam given up... sound familiar? :lol )

Re: Official MLB 2021 season thread...
Well, I think it's happened 508 times in MLB, but Miguel Cabrera tied the single-game ML mark for Sacrifice Flies tonight with two. I think it's unclear at this point, but it's rumored that Ruth might have had three once before the stat was officially recorded. Pretty rare a major league record gets tied these days. IIRC the New York teams have had three Sacrifice Flies in an Inning for each league, probably the most amazing record for the stat. edit: the record is in fact three in each league
Would be interesting to compile a list of un-intentional Walks with the Bases Loaded.

Yeah, why don't you get started? It prob happens a few times a week in baseball. Why don't you start with the list of 10,000 times someone walked in a run :lol
Better to compile a list when it happened intentionally. Pretty sure it was once with Bonds, Showalter ordered it with a 2 run lead and won the game when the next guy lined out.

Saturday and Sunday were wild. I watched them both. Eovaldi on Saturday was cruising to what looked like an easy win. Then German and the Yankees lost Sunday in the same way even more spectacularly.

Dodgers have pitching problems. Doc can't keep pulling Urias after 80 pitches. They don't have Kershaw and Bauer in that rotation to eat innings anymore. Price, Gonsolin and TBA are lucky to pitch into the 5th. This bullpen will be shot way before the postseason.

Re: Official MLB 2021 season thread...
The White Sox made a couple of moves to shore up their bullpen, Ryan Tepera who was solid with the Cubs and more importantly, Craig Kimbrel who is one of the best closers in MLB history. Kimbrel and Hendriks in the late innings is filthy. Also acquired 2B Cesar Hernandez from the Indians (they'll always be the Indians to me) who is a gold glover and has some pop, 18 HRs. Sox have been struggling to put up some runs recently but we get our slugger Eloy Jimenez back in the lineup starting tomorrow and big bats Luis Robert and Yasmani Grandal should be joining the team within the next couple of weeks. One of the best starting rotations in baseball, coupled with an elite bullpen should make the White Sox a formidable World Series candidate...

Mets free falling. Back to reality. Even though it's a trash division, I have 0 faith they will win it. Thought they were a good team but with key pieces that are batting at or lower than .200, just waiting for them to give up the lead... to the stinkin phillies ugh. DeGrom c'mon bro you're the best pitcher but maybe cut down on throwing 100 mphs if it means you're gonna be injured for showcasing it.

Braves coming for that ass. We've been pretty decimated with injuries as well but I think the resolve is there. Freeman has proved he can carry and Riley looks like a true star.
Our FA power surge was pretty important. Don't need .240 hitters with no pop 6-8 in our lineup.
It's been a weird and extremely unlucky year. Not just with the injuries but with the general chance factors that come in to play in baseball. I heard a stat the other day on a Podcast that we are literally dead last in baseball in BA and OPS in "late and close situations". Which is innings 7-9 within 3 runs, I believe. Dansby Swanson in particular has like a .290 OPS in such situations..with like 30 or so at bats; dead last among qualifying players in Major League Baseball (don't ask me what the qualifications are). Small samples can't be taken seriously in baseball but he's always been the clutch guy.
Hopefully the tide turns because the last several years have been the opposite for us. Or maybe it's just random chance biting us in the ass. Either way I'm happy our division sucks

Re: Official MLB 2021 season thread...
Not to flog a dead horse, but Cabrera's batting a Career .368 in games in which he reaches base. Cobb is the all-time leader with a Career .412 batting average. It's astonishing how well I-Rod did when he reached base. Through 2016, Cabrera batted .372, for some others Stan Musial and Ted Williams both batted .377, Gehrig .376, and Joe DiMaggio .364

Yeah Will Smith is on thin ice with Richard Rodriguez ready to take the closer's role.
The problem is that the Braves bullpen is still unreliable, but the Braves bats have come alive in an epic way.
There is a very strong likelihood that the Braves will have 5 players with 30+ homeruns this season. That is unheard of.

Dodgers were 1-12 in extra inning games and a terrible record in 1 run games, Mets pretty good in both... of course Mets hitting in the clutch is shit and they lose 2 in extras. Got rekt last night. I hate watching this team because of how much they choke. Mets hung with them for 2 games and still got swept. F em. 3rd best team in the division. Talent is subpar. They got Carrasco and Rich Hill going tonight... old farts that suck. Of course the sky is falling mentality is a regular thing for mets fans :lol for good reason of course.
