The Utah Jazz announced Saturday that they have entered into a long-term naming rights deal with Delta Air Lines, the Atlanta-based airline with a hub at Salt Lake City International Airport. The arena will continue to be referred to as Vivint Arena until July 1, 2023, when the changeover will officially take place.

Terms of the deal were not released, but Jazz owner Ryan Smith told The Salt Lake Tribune that the intention is to keep the Delta Center name for decades to come. This week, the Tribune reported that Delta had signed a lease extension with Salt Lake City to keep the company in Utah through at least mid-2044, with an option for another 10 years beyond that.

Vivint Smart Home purchased the naming rights to the stadium for 10 years in 2015. (In 2020, the “Smart Home” part of the arena name was dropped.) Vivint’s deal was not set to expire until 2025. However, concurrently with the Delta arrangement, Vivint agreed to a new sponsorship agreement with the Smith Entertainment Group, the company that owns the Jazz and the arena. Under the renegotiated deal, which extends through the 2030 season, Vivint will retain the rights to its courtside suite, along with in-game promotions, advertising packages, and digital ads placed on the court during the team’s TV broadcasts.

Re: 2022-23 regular season. The Tank begins...
And maybe that will be the case. I’ve heard the Lakers and Pistons have discussed a deal that would include both Bogdanović and Nerlens Noel. Since the Pistons are demanding draft assets in any deal for Bogdanović, it’s sort of a given that the Lakers would have to surrender a first-round pick to make a deal. Maybe they make a second deal to fortify the rotation further. Will they be willing to trade both picks that are currently trade-eligible? The sense around the league is they won’t. But we’ll see.

A Conley for Russell trade doesn’t work financially, but the Jazz have several players who they could add to the trade to make a deal work.

— Minnesota Timberwolves (@Timberwolves) January 16, 2023
Jordan Clarkson, Kelly Olynyk, Talen Horton-Tucker, Rudy Gay, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker would each satisfy the league requirements to complete the trade.
In return for a player of Russell’s production, Minnesota would likely be asking for Clarkson to help their playoff hopes.
Last week, NBA Insider Marc Stein reported that Clarkson had “rebuffed” the Jazz extension offers amid a career year with the franchise.
The Jazz are limited on the size of extension they can offer Clarkson during this season, and risk losing the high-scoring guard in unrestricted free agency when it opens in July.
With Russell, the Jazz would get a $31 million expiring contract, and get out from underneath the $24 million Conley is owed next season, over $14 million of which is guaranteed.
Danny Ainge, Justin Zanik, and Will Hardy could also use the final three months of the NBA season to see how the 26-year-old Russell fits with the current roster, and if he would be a suitable long-term option to pursue this summer.

hate to see Gobert stuck with the bum again but Conley and him certainly make sense. Russell is close to Lauri's age. Works with Gay instead of Clarkson
The game ball for the Jazz in this game has to go to Walker Kessler. All five Jazz starters scored in double figures, so everyone played well, but Kessler posted his first 20/20 game and his impact on the court was undeniable. Not to disrespect Rudy Gobert, but the fact that the Jazz may have received someone who can be almost as impactful on the defensive end and a little bit more impactful on the offensive end in their trade with Minnesota last summer may just be the steal of the century. Utah also got double figure games off the bench from Ochai Agbaji and Collin Sexton, who shined in in his return from injury.

Jazz have one of the worst D's in the league which was never the case with Gobert. Let's not get ahead of ourselves
Speaking of the Rudy Gobert trade, Walker Kessler! In a redraft, he almost certainly goes in the top 6-8. And if this media survey had been after Kessler became the first rookie since 2014 to put up a 20/20 game, then he may very well have been #1 from this question.
probably not. Being a top rookie now doesn't mean you have more potential than others
“Who could we hire that could possibly be better than Quin Snyder?” That was a common thought when some were asking for a coaching change after a few years of postseason failures. And especially once Coach Q decided to step away. I’m not saying that Will Hardy is already a better head coach than Quin Snyder. But what I am saying is that the change brought a breath of fresh air to the Jazz and it’s very clear he is extremely good at his job. I hope he has a very long coaching career right here in Salt Lake.
and he's made more adjustments than COTM has the past 3 years combined
