lol @ pillaging. Yeah, an all-star PF and a 6th man of the year PF for a top PG in the league is straight pillaging, man. What a rip off!

By itself it's not that bad - Gasol/Odom for a top 5 player in the league (not just "a top PG", which is a HUGE understatement) is a fair deal. No one - certainly not I - would take issue with it. It's the fact that they were then (and still might) get Dwight for Bynum, which is a JOKE of a trade, and would result in the most potent superteam in the league by far - well beyond Miami and even Boston at its peak several years back because the players are younger, there's an inside/outside balance, and Paul's PG skills are the icing on the cake. Sorry, but 3 top 6-7 players in the league on one team is a JOKE. When healthy, one can make the case that they are 3 of the top 5 players in the league, all legit superstar MVP caliber players. That's obscene and anti-competitive.
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
LOL at people thinking Howard's not going to end up in LA. You think the Lakers would gut their title winning frontcourt depth just for the hell of it? They've known that Paul/Howard was a package deal all along. They have the next dream team, the greatest trio in NBA history. Chris Paul/Kobe Bryant/Dwight Howard. I can't believe it went down. Out of all the teams, LAL had less cap space/draft picks/young talent than big/flashy market teams like NJN and LAC, and yet they come out on top once again. Congrats to the Lakers. The true epitome of a championship organization.

Crazy Right. Lakers bout to start pounding teams by 30 every night. 3 guys that can and will force their impact on the game every single night.

Its completely arguable that its not that bad of a deal. Name the last 10 trades for a superstar; it won't be the worst. maybe not even bottom 4.
the thing ppl are freaking out about is just kobe / pau / howard.. they would get them completely fairly, the trades are fine, its just.. wow. thats gotta be one of the best teams ever about to form between our eyes. ppl are going to be mad.
but its about as legit as you can create a super team; trades that both teams agree to. it happens fairly.. but ya its obscene if went thru

This.
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
Who can name the last 10 trades for superstars?
I have Shaq for Kwame and Odom
Pau for Kwame + picks
Melo for gallo and scrubs
Deron williams for devin harris + picks
Only ones I can think of atm.
I think Pau and Odom for CP3 is BY far a better trade for the team that loses the superstar compared to those, and Bynum + ??? For Dwight , statistically and potentially, has to be better than some of those as well.
These trades are so fair it gives me a boner
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
I feel that Stern is tryig to make up for that Gasol trade a few years ago.
Funny thing is that the original deal proposed this year is pretty fair & all the teams seem to come out pretty good.
Remember the Hornets only have 6 players under contract so it's a good idea to get a few starters, which they got 3 in the deal (Scola, Martin, Odom).
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
From a salary cap pov, there's no way Rockets are trading Patterson and Lee instead of Martin and Scola, because it makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE in terms of salary cap, and goes completely against the point of the trade for the Rockets (to free salary for Nene, but this would add salary).
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
i still don't get why houston does this

Bynum for Howard is a joke of a trade. Dude has missed 57, 32, 17, 28 games in the last four seasons with knee injury after knee injury. Find me a center who has been as injured as often as Bynum has been in his early years who turned out to have a long healthy career.

DWill for Favors, Harris + a pick that landed us Enes Kanter. Fair trade that gives us the possibility to instantly rebuild. I`d take this over Bynum + late picks any day.
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
Seriously, can you imagine, say, Jordan/Hakeem/Magic in the early 90's, or Jordan/Shaq/Penny in the late 90's, or Magic/Hakeem/Bird from '86-'88? That's essentially what this team would be, except that they would be playing in a weaker league that is less equipped to present a challenge to them.
(these aren't exact analogies because Kobe isn't as good as MJ, Dwight not as good as Hakeem, and Paul not as good as Magic, but Paul is the best PG since Magic imo, and Dwight is by FAR the best big man in the league right now; Kobe should still be a top 5-7 player in the league this season; still. the point stands).
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
If the Nets are signing Nene why does Houston do this?
Re: Paul trade to be done TONIGHT
I was thinking, what if Dallas trades for Dwight and then brings in Deron creating a triple D-town combo of Dirk/Deron/Dwight? That's just as good as the Lakers combo IMO.
Would people complain about that?
