I can't recall the last Muslim thread I've seen in this forum.

I have made fun of Muslim friends of mine too. But, this nation isn't predominantly Islamic, and one would be pretty foolish to go to a nation that was and start an anti-Islam verbal crusade... even if it were facetious and lighthearted.

Not a former Catholic, btw. Southern Baptist. Dancin in the aisles like possessed fools, so church was generally a fun experience. Not something painful to run away from.

The question, really, is what does it mean that cults work? The human mind works in such a way that it falls for that stuff real easy.

So... what? Do we clamp our hands on our ears and go LALALALALALALA whenever that part of our human nature begins to stir? Have we been formed by millions of years of biological and cultural evolution to crave what cults offer as some kind of cosmic accident / joke?

Or are these impulses with a rightful place?

What do you think? Is the tendency to fall for religious / cultish stuff just some trap to hold the human race "back" from... something? (Despite everything you know about evolution and natural selection) Or does it have a point? And if so what do you think that point might be?

most people are raised on whatever religion they believe in. I was raised going to christian and catholic school. Bible class, and was even an alter boy. Its hard to accept the truth about religion since it has been a integral part of people's lives since they can remember..

It takes time to give up the idea of going to heaven... but for me, once I had accepted it? I felt better and felt freed up to live without the dogma weighing me down. Some people have church and religion as such a huge part of their lives, that I dont think they can ever let it go.... best thing that ever happen to me though..

Here me out. If every Christian had the choice between....

a) The possibility of eternity in Heaven or Hell
vs
b) Nothingness after our time on earth (just like before birth)

Thats kind of like....
a) Placing a bet where, if you win you receive 1 million dollars and if you lose you get all your limbs cut off
vs
b) Don't participate in the wager

What I'm saying is..Its easier to believe/more pleasant that after death is nothingness(just like before we were born). The possibility of Hell (aka eternal torment) outweighs all. If I became fully convinced that christianity was a false religion (and so was every other religion), I don't suspect I'd break down mentally. Heaven ain't portrayed as a given....


Secondly...I wouldn't say that me trying to abide to Christ's teachings is "weighing me down". What was weighing you down? At worse, adhering to the DOGMA is the ultimate guidance in life. It forbids me from doing nothing that would enhance my life (someone care to challenge me on that?). Of the things its teachings forbid, mastur-bation/porn is atop the list of candidates. But as evident of my postings in the "Official No Fap" thread, life (for me at least) would be a lot better without it. And I don't think that thats just me picking and choosing what I should abide by..

I don't know, the concept of ceasing to exist seems to be a lot harder to accept than having an opportunity to live forever in a happy place.

:roll: As far as fapping is concerned, not fapping at all is a lot unhealthier than it is to do so in moderation.
