Dennis Lindsey’s exit from the Utah Jazz’s president of basketball operations chair was more of an ownership decision than Lindsey’s personal one, sources tell The Salt Lake Tribune, as new owner Ryan Smith chose to move on without Lindsey at the helm and selected general manager Justin Zanik as the team’s primary decision-maker.
Lindsey, hired by the Jazz in 2012, selected Snyder to be his team’s head coach in the summer of 2014 after a disappointing season from predecessor Ty Corbin. But in the years that ensued, Snyder and Lindsey’s relationship deteriorated, creating distrust between the pair that impacted day-to-day Jazz operations.
While the relationship between the two men wasn’t as combative this year as it had been at various times in the two’s tenure, thanks at least in part to the success of the team in the regular season, there was a view from some within the organization that a longstanding feud had been settled. who should they have taken that Snyder wouldn't have played unless he was from Duke? They needed to take a center. Udoka has Gobert like potential. The one thing that made Lindsey and Snyder's careers
The Jazz, frankly, also want to make moves that appeal to star guard Donovan Mitchell and his team. Even though Mitchell just signed a five-year extension with the team, the deal includes a player option after the fourth season, and the NBA’s player-favorable power structure means that Mitchell, if he wanted, could engineer an exit sooner.
Please read the entire story, it’s filled with fantastic details. It’s understandable that Smith would come in as owner and want to clean up that level of dysfunction, and he sided with Snyder, the winning coach that got this team the best record in the NBA this season.

The winning coach that hasn't won without Gobert and has been schooled in back to back playoffs?
Whatever happens, don’t expect radical changes from Zanik — this is still a contending team. It could use more strong on-ball perimeter defenders, and there will be changes around the edges, but don’t expect the core of this team to look different (much of it is under contract already, anyway).

https://www.ksl.com/article/50195101/ryan-smith-has-found-his-footing-and-is-now-shaking-things-up-with-the-jazz
Lindsey is well regarded in the basketball world, and his tenure with the Jazz should be considered a successful one. He made two big trades to land Mitchell and Rudy Gobert that shaped the Jazz's future; he found Royce O'Neale in a mini free agent camp, signed Bojan Bogdanovic and traded for Mike Conley; he chose Snyder as head coach.
Got lucky with Gobert. That was more about the Miller's agreeing to buy a pick. Got Mitchell because he wanted to be here. Royce a good find buy Snyder actually playing him is the key. Bojan should have been a starting 4. Should have traded Exum and Rubio for Conley. So again what did he do exactly?
However, he was far from perfect. He lost Gordon Hayward to Boston in 2017 after an All-Star season and a playoff run. His draft track record was spotty — and his selection of Udoka Azubuike in last year's draft was a contentious one within the organization, one source said. And the players he signed to fill out the end of the bench were far from reliable enough for Snyder to feel comfortable playing meaningful minutes.
Center was the right pick. Was there another center they should have taken? Snyder wasn't going to play them anyway. 6 rookies made no sense last year and Hughes certainly made none this year. Not having a 4 the past two years made no sense but that sound like more of a Quin problem as was him not playing guys that could have helped them despite their non Dukeness
Aside from that, Smith is a major proponent of not sticking to the status quo just because it was working. He turned Qualtrics from a successful survey company to one that created a whole new market: experience management. He's running his team the same way. The Jazz may not err on the side of continuity as much anymore — even coming off an NBA-best record.
good to hear. Been a problem with the Miller's The fact that Snyder is still coach and the fact that Zanik was already GM when they signed Clarkson. Favors and Hughes still leaves me with doubts though

they should have got under it this year as close as they were especially since the coach wasn't going to play anyone but his guys anyway

The chatter shouldn’t come as a surprise. Sexton is extension-eligible this summer and his agent Austin Brown, the same guy who got Donovan Mitchell the rookie-scale max from Utah, will be looking for a big payday. Sexton’s earned it. Despite being selected eighth in 2018, he’s emerged as one of the top players in the class, averaging career-bests in points (24.3), assists (4.4) and field goal percentage (47.5%) this past season. He’s improved every year and his unrelenting work ethic points to a guy who will likely keep ascending. Sexton has done everything they’ve asked, if not more.
That story is particularly surprising considering that Mitchell signed a max extension with the Jazz back in November that will pay him handsomely to stay in Utah until 2024-25 at the earliest, with 2025-26 having a player option on it that Mitchell will almost certainly opt out of. When that contract kicks in next season, Mitchell projects to be the 37th highest-paid player in the NBA. That means even if Mitchell does want out soon for whatever reason, which seems a bit unlikely, the Jazz will have a major leverage advantage over the star 2-guard since they have him locked up for at least the next four seasons. Nevertheless, this is far from the first time there have been uncomfortable (for Jazz fans, at least) rumblings about Mitchell's future with Utah and, as they say, where there's smoke, there's oftentimes fire. It just seems like we're years away from this being a major issue for the Jazz.
