Mars seems hard to imagine. I remember talking with friends who truly believe we will have life extending medical care (like living hundreds of years ) and colonize mars. I wanted to clarify whether they meant sustainably. I don’t see how we ever get people living on mars using what they can get there.

I could see a research base if we can continue to bring supplies. Likely they would have an issue and all die, but they’d keep doing it.

Stuff like Total Recall or PKD novels is what people think, and I doubt it. Self driving cars are probably not able to be made due to theory. They need to start with a self driving lane and have self driving routes from it. I can see how it would work, but it makes you wonder if many mass transit stations in cities might be better.

Free driving is bound for disaster. Needs ‘tracks’ to guide and then when you get off, you have to drive again.

we'll colonize our entire solar system eventually and ultimately our entire galaxy as long as we don't end up destroying ourselves first.

once we recognize and master our need for self-preservation (which is indeed a huge hurdle with nukes and all, greed and the hearts of men in general), there's no telling where technology will take us in the next millions or billions of years. the tragedy is that you and i will never get to see it. if there's any true meaning to the reason of our existence as humans, it's to replicate and reproduce to be able to get to the point of achieving those feats as a civilization. so in that vein we're simply sacrificial pawns in our own game of human evolution.
