Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
Kobe couldn't handle being the second best player on the roster (behind Shaq), how will he fair being the third best? Not ripping on Kobe, but obviously Paul and Howard are superior players to Bryant at this stage in their respective careers. Also Mike Brown wouldn't be able to handle the egos of Bryant and Howard (I don't think CP's is such a problem).

Doesn't matter, Orlando/Hornets will only accept deals if Dwight and Paul want to play there.

Just saw on Sportscenter, Broussard basically said, "Kupchak said he's not doing anything, but you have to think they want to do something." Is that what rumors are based off these days?

There's certainly more to it than that.

Broussard is the source. He is as reliable as TMZ.
I think they are finally going to Shut the F*ck up. Good trade for the Lakers. I really want to see this team play the Heat in the Finals. It sucks that CP3 and Dwight won't win an NBA MVP Award.
Who's going to be the Batman and Robin for the Lakers?
Kobe is Batman Everyone else is RObin. Welcome to reality Lebron fan. Kobe's an uber dick but he doesn't allow these type of discussions.
And i can't see it, especially Paul where they don't have the chips. Would make me sick though. BTW< what is NO thinking? They should want literally nothing back for Paul to try to get the first pick. Did you see that kid? They should want picks and salary gone and too totally uber suck.

Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
To me, it's pretty obvious what needs to happen.
Lakers should trade anyone on their roster to get both Howard and Paul........ANYONE.......including the African American Mamba.
I think it's impossible to get both players otherwise. But Dwight and Paul set the Lakers up for next 7 - 8 years at least. Got to sell high on Kobe before he declines.
I know this WON'T happen, but Lakers should be open to it.

what about in a 3 way team trade to miami? i always dreamed about what a kobe 3 way would look like. kobe-wade-bron. you would move bron to PF and bosh would just have to shut up and play C. he's good in the post so can he handle multiple positions and will he demand it?

True, just like the rest of the NBA. But, you would never see a headline like that. It's all about the Lakers in the NBA and it's so freaking annoying.

There won't be many better offers from teams dwight would actually want to play for.

Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
orlando will want to dump either arenas or hedo's contract and not even the lakers can absorb that. clips have the most assets for NO will be tempted to do that. as long as cp3 signs off, it could be a go. i wouldn't be surprised if the lakers got one of them. but both? nah
those teams that traded him away should just give way their playoff hopes for the next seven years then.

Kobe wouldn't do it. For good and bad, Kobe is the man, wants to be the man, will not accept being the man. You've seen it both hurt and help him multiple times. Talent wise, at this point Howard is better player. But he'd be Kobe's puppy (if he goes to NJ, anyone doubt who the leader is? Him or Deron?) Kobe doesn't play well with second alpha dogs.

Laker trade as situated absorbs Hedo. Net trade does not but i'm sure it's an "opening bid". Any Howard trade would need to.

Then might as well let his contract expire so that he has to play for a scrub team.

Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
IMO Lakers should do these trades:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=84rpav7
+
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7jwxg6x
End result:
PG: CP3
SG: Kobe
SF: Ariza
PF: Okafor
C: D12
6th Man: Arenas
That team would be nuts rofl

Magic actually have some leverage though cause Dwight can't sign with the Lakers outright. Its not like the Melo situation. I don't understand why this is lost on people.
Seriously, if I was a GM (which I'm obviously nowhere close to being), I would rather let Dwight walk for nothing then settle for just Bynum. Bynum has trouble staying on the floor as the 3rd-4th option. How can you expect this guy to be even just as durable as he gets older and assumes a franchise player's role? If I'm the Magic, I don't understand why they don't also go for Gasol and try to dump Arenas on them. And say what you want that thats too much cause its really not. Bynum isn't going to be a superstar, Gasol is over 30, and this team in general is on the decline. You do what you can to take a top 3 player in the league in his prime.
-
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
I doubt if this happens, but if any team can pull this off, it would be the Lakers. As a star it has to be great to play for that franchise. They are basically the Yankees of the NBA. They can basically bring in any type of help that you think you need. Other than maybe a brief stint in the early 90's after Magic retired I don't think that they've ever gone more than 4 seasons without a top 5 caliber player in the league.
-
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
This is whats gonna happen.
Step 1: 3 way trade
Celtics: Gasol
Hornets: Rondo
Lakers: Paul
Of course with fillers, Its obvious Celtics want to trade Rondo for a scoring option to take pressure off Pierce, Gasol will fill that need and the lack of Center position they have.
Step 2: Trade 4 Dwight.
Send Bynum + fillers for Dwight Howard + Torkulu
-
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
Why would Orlando take Gasol instead of all the young talent Clippers and Nets can offer.
Exactly... if the Magics are going to take Gasol just for some minor playoff hope it's not going to happen lol. East is way too stacked.
Rebuild... or try to trade for CP3...
Nelson / Anderson / Reddick + picks? for CP3 + w/e filler.
That kind of trade won't fly though. :violin:
-
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
ya, just trade for lopez and cash straight up. lopez will make magic too much to handle :D
plus, orlando fans should be more interested in any cp3/dwight combos and i said this way before these rumors dropped. a dwight/cp3 pick n roll is lethal and hard as $hit to defend. add a perimeter shooter or low post scorer and that's tough sledding. add a hard rebounder...good luck
-
Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
How bout this?
Trade #1:
Lakers get Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu
Magic get Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom
Trade #2:
Lakers get Chris Paul
Pacers get Pau Gasol
Hornets get Danny Granger and Nick Collison
Those trades could be tweaked, but that's the basic structure.
:confusedshrug:

then let him walk, why take on pieces that you can't build around. Now if the Lakers can get a 3rd team involved that can offer young pieces/picks then it becomes more realistic.

Why not test run Bynum for a year seeing as he has a team option after 2012 and see how he works out as a 1st option in the post?

Not the same.
Neither Paul or Dwight really require the ball that much to be effective, and Kobe will still be the leader of a team with all 3.

Re: ESPN: Lakers looking to trade for BOTH CP3 & Dwight Howard
kupchak is secretive but this is hard one to pull off
but if done...cp3 + dwight + kobe = done for league. at the very least, the next five ships fall between LA, miami and chi. maybe NY, OK, memphis can sneak one in there. you're done, son.
