Oh yeah. Good stuff. Stuff like that may be ignored, but the signs are there. Kobe homers accept it, not all is peachy and rosy about Kobe. Don't turn a blind eye to the evidence.
"Oh you're all haters, you're jealous, you have no credibility." STFU already, you clowns sound like a broken record. Stop whining and call him out on his sh!t.

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Kobe is a natural bad ass on the court, which is what made the 'scowl' so annoying. He doesn't need it. His overall on-court persona is VISUALLY intense/determined enough as it is because of his uber competitiveness.
Outside of that, his personality is very much contrived. The whole obsession with MJ and the unbelievably fake interviews where he tries to be 'one of the guys' - people can see right through it.
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
You can also see the Kobe scowl, in a picture, of a thread I made.....
http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190403
It's not something he just did, he does it all the time.
-
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
He was doing it in the 2001 Finals too. He did it when he grabbed the board on the road against the Sixers and scored and ran back with a scowl to the bench.
-
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Shouldn't we be happy to have a mega-talent like Kobe emulate the GOAT?
Kobe's game alone is enough to earn my respect. Think about how good that man is at the sport we all love. Seriously, think about it.
The league is gunna take a major hit once Kobe retires and this is coming from a fan that used to DESPISE KB24.

Theirs really nothing to talk about here, how this thread got 15 pages is beyond me(im adding to it tho) don't know why you guys worry about a guy who's only job is to entertain you by his amazing skills but you talk about him as if you know him? This decade is ****ed up because of all the gossip little ******* that got made.

The most famous scowl on ISH.
Scowlnage.

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Who cares if a bunch of no-life losers think Kobe's personality is contrived. He's a ****ing athlete and a great one too, which is all we (real basketball fans) care about. Hate comes from envy so it's a complement to him that so many people hate him. Clearly these people would love to be in his position....he's a millionaire who has achieved every kind of individual and team success in the NBA, who is worshiped by fans over the world, travels in a personal helicopter...and he's got a hot wife. It's not called hate, it's jealousy.
I guess that's why Magic, Jordan, and Bird got hated...Oh wait...

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
It is pretty much created but you have to look at it in his perspective.
On the floor we all know he's a competitor as all players should be. I mean yea he mimmicked Jordan back in the day but who else would you want to mimic but the GOAT? Also in the post-game interview this year he attributed 90% of his game to MJ so it's not a suprise.
Off the court towards the media at the beginning of his career he was vocal and spoke his mind a lot. I think during the period of the Kobe/Shaq duel much of the media was biased towards Kobe which stemmed a lot of the hate by people today. It's either you hate the dude completely, hate him but respect his game or love him.
I think he realized what happened and now just pretty much sticks to being conservative, working on his game and not trying to go off tangent. Yes his personality is contrived but mostly from past experiences which if you think about it then all of our personalities are contrived. Dunno what the OP is really trying to get at.
-
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
if he was contrived then why did he treat the media like shit the past post-seasons. he was surly, curt, and not very nice. wouldn't a contrived be the exact opposite of this i.e act all easy-going and try to be funny/laid-back.

People hated on Kobe everywhere, not just the internet. During the time when Kobe was demanding a trade, I was listening to the radio and Knick fans were calling in saying they wouldn't root for him even if he ended up on the Knicks. It's not just on message boards. In fact I think Kobe gets more love on the internet than anywhere else.

I'm from NY. I'd know. Hell, I was at a game in like '04 I think and people were chanting rapist in '04. So he was getting hate even before the trade demands. And Bulls fans all over the place didn't wanna give up Deng for Kobe.

Knicks and Bulls fans were saying they would win a ring with Kobe.
I remember New York and Chicago chanting M-V-P, which says a lot. Visiting teams can heckle and boo....but it means much more when visiting team's fans are chanting M-V-P.

That's just now when the Lakers started winning. There's a lot of Laker fans in NY. It's a big city. Lot of disloyal bandwagon fans.

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Regardless, the internet has nothing to do with why Kobe gets hated. Prior to "The Decision" LeBron didn't really get any hate outside of Kobe fans. Explain that one. And how about Duncan? He gets no hate. So stop with the jealousy bs, Kobe nuts..
-
Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Regardless, the internet has nothing to do with why Kobe gets hated.
Nobody said the internet is the reason why he's hated. The internet gave an outlet for anybody to express their hatred and for other people to read it. The internet also allows for news to travel fast and be available to more people.
Before the internet, where did the average joe express his dislike for a player? You think MJ wasn't hated? If MJ was playing now there would be a MJsucks.com, IhateMJ.com and other website bashing him.
Prior to "The Decision" LeBron didn't really get any hate outside of Kobe fans. Explain that one. And how about Duncan? He gets no hate. So stop with the jealousy bs, Kobe nuts..
You must be delusional if you think LeBron wasn't bashed for being a sore loser, a showboater, an arrogant prick or a tape thief. And the Decision precisely support what I said. When it aired every average joe talked about it in forums or on their blogs, to the point where even non-NBA fans knew about it. Every reaction from KJ, Bird, Magic were reported on every website and every blog and discussed to no end.
As for Duncan, has he ever done anything to deserve hate? Maybe for being on what is regarded as the most boring team in the league.

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
Who really cares about this sh!t?????
Kobe's glare is to show firery leadership to his teammates....set the tone.
I only care about how a player plays, how he treats his teammates and fans.
What's next?? Guys will argue about what type of car he SHOULD be driving?
Let's stick to the games guys.

Re: Do people believe Kobe's personality is contrived?
I think his personality is fake and he is contrived. However, all this sh!t is enertaining to me. I also think Shaq is an as-hole, yet he is entertaining as well. I watch basketball to be entertained. Kobe's fake personality IS entertaining, in fact you can laugh a lot by watching it closely.
I'm a Laker fan BTW and I have Kobe in the top10 all time. My favorite player on and off the court? No. That is Steve Nash. Just as entertaining w/o being fake. Still, Kobe's contrived mannerisms are a lot more worth watching than the all-professional attitude of Derek Fisher.
On another but somewhat related note: Never get married if you are unable to laugh at another person's faults.
