If we can’t spend it fundamentally, then we’ll certainly save all of it, all the room that we have or a portion of it for the extensions that we have coming in the next few seasons. So, what we don’t wanna do is extend an amount on a player and then it puts pressure a year or two down the line.
There it is. He's already preparing us for them sitting pat the rest of the off-season. Depends on who you're signing as far as pressure down the line. If you can get Conley you might just have to be pressured later I'm afraid.

Could be ahead of Withey who they don't like. Hard to put him above Pleiss since Pleiss has already shown something above the Big Sky.
Bolomboy making the team only exists in a world where he plays really well in summer league and training camp, *and* the team doesn't add any other bigmen in NBA Free Agency. There's a chance to upgrade this roster in July. An actual stretch big at power forward (if the team can get one) shakes things up a bit and drops Joel down to 4th string power forward, and likely out of the NBA. Of course, the team is more likely to make a trade or two that involves free agency, and not sign a guy outright. As a result, Joel may make the team if other guys are traded away . . . or he, himself, may be traded.
Easy to see him on the team if he plays well in summer league. They have plenty of roster spots to be had and money to be given out.

With Hill and maybe Exum plus Ingles who has looked like a rotation player late in the season and Johnson they look deep to me.
An argument could be made that, if the Jazz are really looking to apply pressure in the West, they could use something more than deep bench reinforcements. Hill! I certainly don't see Hood as the automatic starter. He started last year because they thought he and Neto fit best with the big 3. He didn't fit as well with Mack who should be the starter right now and his streakiness and lack of D makes me think he might be better off on the bench.

"Already" because Exum only has played a rookie season. And in that one season, Exum shot an abysmal 34.9 percent from the floor and a sad 31.4 and 62.5 percent from the free-throw and three-point lines. Averages of 4.8 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 turnovers in a relatively high 22.2 minutes per game also were not impressive.
Reading between the lines it seems like after Trey lost his starting spot to Dante Exum waay back in 2014 they had looked into trading him at the 2015 trade deadline. The 2016 deadline passed with him still on the roster. The Jazz failed to move him on draft nights in 2015 or 2016 as well. And didn't move him during 2016 NBA Free Agency. If they were shopping him -- which it seems like they were -- they haven't found anything they wanted in return, or anything at the price they were willing to pay. Part of the problem is that Burke, even though he was a Top 10 lotto pick, doesn't have an expensive contract, even today in his terminal year it's still worth under $4 million dollars. The headaches other teams want to be rid of all seem to be much more expensive. The other part of the problem may be trying to return to previously held potential value. Trey Burke was traded up for on the 2013 Draft night, with the Jazz giving up the #14 (Shabazz Muhammad) and the #21 (Gorgui Dieng) to do so. I don't think the current market value for Burke is two 1st rounders anymore. But surely there could have been an actual market value for Trey Burke that the team could have sustained.
Tells me know one wants him. He doesn't hit the 3. Doesn't pass. Doesn't play d. You think anyone wants that?
It's truly a remarkable thing for a lottery team, who remains in the lottery for years in a row, to be able to devalue their own assets during their rookie contract. That's not usually how that works. (But it is the Jazz way!)
Re: 2016- Yet another long off-season
I think with him, at the moment at least, it's just a case of teams having him as their backup plan. Go for a good free agent first, but if you can't get him, then maybe go for a trade for Burke instead.
I'd wonder if Charlotte would have any interest in him since they'll likely lose Lin as their backup PG. Sacremento are looking for guards, could maybe sell them on him being a 3 point heater off the bench for them.
