Best of luck, I'm having surgery as well today
As many of you know, I have been on the Oregon kidney transplant list for about 2 years. Today I got the phone call saying they have a live donor for me. To my shock, it was none of the people who called on my behalf, just some random stranger that wanted to help somebody out. I'm scheduled to have surgery on July 23rd, so my move to Cali will be somewhat delayed.
Congrats bro. Ask for an extension to your dorsal fin while they're at it.
Seriously, all the best. Keep us updated with how you go.
Will do. Next time I am on ISH, I will have had another man's organ inserted into me. No homo.
I have to say, that is brillant. Is that yours or is that long time joke in the organ donor community?

There are a number of complications that can arise and I will be on anti-rejection medications that lower my immune system making me vulnerable to other illnesses. Good chance I will become diabetic and get skin cancer, in addition to other possible outcomes. Plus the medications, like Prednisone, have their own shitty side-effects. But all of that is better than the alternative.
Oh bummer - sending a prayer your way
Everthing went as expected. I'm still in some pain, and I have yet to poop, so that is going to hurt. Also, I apparently peed 3.5 gallons my first night after my kidney was put in. It is common to pee a lot with a new kidney, but I was still peeing as much as a normal person, so the amount I'm peeing is an extreme amount.

It is something I came up with. I was also planning that if I ever got a kidney from a woman, I would use it in debates with women by pointing out that I am part woman.
Scoooter - I keep my originals too. It causes more trauma on the body to have them removed, so they remain in place and the new kidney was added to my right hip. I have a big nasty scar that goes from my right hip and curls down to the bottom of my happy trail. If I ever get another transplant on my left him, I'm hoping it completes a smiley face scar.
Congrats on the surgery man, and best of luck in recovery. patience and movies are your best friend

Yeah, I've been watching cable because I'm still in the hospital. I just got moved out of the ICU a few hours ago, so that is when I was able to start using my computer here. I should be here until sometime Friday through Monday. I could watch Netflix on my computer now, but I haven't tested to see how fast the internet is here yet.
Awesome news, glad it went well.:applause:

was that liquid that was retained in the body and then came out becoz of the new extra kidney is working....or is there another reason for the peeing ?

From my limited understanding, there are a few things that come into play. When a new kidney starts working, it starts filtering like crazy right off the bat. Even though I was already peeing a normal amount before the transplant, I think there may have been some excess water stored in me that the original kidneys weren't getting rid of. Additionally, they flush me with a lot of fluids during the surgery, and because I was already peeing sufficiently, this means I have 3 kidneys that are filtering all the liquid. By night number 2, it was nowhere near 3.5 gallons.
Myth what was wrong with your original kidney? Had you been suffering for a long time?
