That's the dumbest argument I've ever heard. Everyone knows certain foods are unhealthy but they consume them anyway for simple pleasure and enjoyment. I know chocolate cake is bad for me and provides nothing but empty calories but that doesn't mean I won't have a piece of birthday cake. There is a time and place for everything.
Yes a lot of rap music is vile and ignorant. The issue isn't so much the music itself, it was the complete and total mainstream embrace. Once MTV started getting behind gangster rap and airing music videos in the afternoon when kids were getting out of school, the rest was history. In hindsight there should have been way more pushback but of course everyone who spoke out in real time was demonized. If you were white you were a racist, if you were black you were a sellout.
An entire generation was totally corrupted by rap music because it became a substitute for parenting. Kids idolized these rappers without having a male role model to look up to in their own family. There's nothing wrong with chocolate cake... until you're feeding your children cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Now you're an adult and you have diabetes and it's time to remove your foot.
