Re: Wilt's Tall Tales
Actually - Guard height's were tallest in the early 60's I think. I calculated the average height of the 1961-62 season and compared it with 1989-2012 NBA drafted players (thanks to www.draftexpress.com)
NBA PG's in 62 averaged about 3/4 of an inch taller than modern PG's
NBA SG's in 62 averaged about 1/2 inch taller than modern PG's
NBA SF's in 62 averaged about 1/4 inch shorter than modern SF's
NBA PF's in 62 averaged about 1/8th inch shorter than modern PF's
NBA C's in 62 averaged over 1/2 inch taller than modern C's
- I think the center position was "modern" in size since at least the mid 1950's - Mikan set the standard. Wilt and Russell didn't define the center position as "big" - big was already the standard, they set raised the bar in athleticism. Guards got smaller with the success of players like Nate "Tiny" Archibald (who was 6'1 in his barefeet... not exactly tiny by today's standards). The smaller PG's were generally more agile than the 6'3-6'4 PG's that were being used in the early 1960's. Maybe PG's dipped really small in size in the 80's though, and is starting to climb again not sure. But forwards is what seemed to get bigger than in the early 60's. Not by much though. With only 9-12 teams it's easier to draft big talent, not just talent.
Lettuce not forget your epic fail by claiming this the first time.
Yeah I'm so mad that some guy dominated short weak stiffs :oldlol:
And you have yet to list a single 7' 230 lb player too - tall tails don't count :lol
Anyone over 6'10 qualifies as 7'0 in today's NBA.

Hey Deuce What do all these 7 footers have in common?
Tyson Chandler
Brook Lopez
Robin Lopez
Hakeem Olajuwon
Patrick Ewing
Joakim Noah
Brendan Haywood
BJ Mullins
Darko Miclic
Spencer Hawes
Jerome Jordan
Chris Kaman
Tyson Chandler
Yi Jianlian
Andrew Bogut
Greg Oden
Javale McGee
Marcin Gortat
*Gasp! They aren't truthfully 7 feet tall at all! It's the post-1970's-media-age-NBA's best kept secret! Exaggerating player size for greater fan appeal.

Listed weights are not reality.
In 1989, David Robinson was listed at 235lbs but at the Olympics he was weighed and found to be only 227lbs. Eventually he weighed more, obviously but at the time his list weight was actually exaggerated. Wilt Chamberlain was listed 275 in 1964 (and for the rest of his career) but when he stepped on the locker room scale in 1964 mid-season, it reads 292. hmmmm......... Bill Russell was listed a flat out unrealistic 215 for his entire career - in 1967 he openly talks about his increased weight progression up to 235, and in the off-seasons he weighed 240. Those vintage players in particular were listed via their draft weight's when they were skinny rookies. None of them stayed that weight, all of them gained weight especially playing in the post - some of them gained a massive amount of weight. :facepalm
ALL *32 of these men played Wilt for 2 seasons or more, are 7'0 tall by modern NBA standards, and exceeded 230lbs.

Deuce, you can't win, I know it's hard to accept change but your days of raping Wilt in the ass are over, sawry bud. You should go consume all the pills in your parents medicine cabinet, because you've dug yourself a deep grave with your sad attempts at trolling.

Two GOAT candidate centers that stand 7'3 in modern shoes - one of them 320lbs
With a 6'6 230lb point guard
what a small weak era.
0 players over 7' 230lbs that played more than 2 seasons :facepalm
I know right.....I was at every Lakers home game in the 60's, saw all these guys play and it is a complete and utter joke to try to compare them to the players of today......the great players were truly great....but there were a ton of scrubs and he skills and especially the athleticism.....with few big exceptions was very pahetic. Jeez, I almost sh!t myself when Westbrook threw down that dunk, the first thing I thought was a PG in the 60's and 70's couldn't even dream of throwing down a dunk like that, wow has the game really changed!!!
Wilt was an absolute freak of nature way ahead of his time.
It amazes me tho that Elgin Baylor gets no mention on here.....career 27.5 points, 13.5 boards, 4 assists. Averaged 38ppg and 19rpg in one season, scored 71 points in a game......Kobe had to WORK to beat that one.......and had 61 in a playoff game....still the most in a regulation playoff game, Jordan's 63 was in double OT. Oh and Baylor had 22 boards in the 61 point game.
He also kept the Lakers franchise from going under......can you even imagine that?
Baylor is #4 with 87 40+ point games........there was NO 3 POINT LINE WHEN HE PLAYED!!!!!!! OR maybe he would've scored 100!!!
We need some love for Elgin Baylor
Q: Cavaliers dude......you do realize that Kareem came to the NBA in 1969 right?
