Re: I have a kidney donor!
Myth, this is great news! Came on ISH specifically looking to see if there was an update on your surgery.
Rest and heal, man. You'll be shocked at how fast you start to feel good. Hoping your second chance at life is as remarkable as mine has been. Enjoy, and be well!

^Is that your dog? You guys have the same expression - that's awesome!
Re: I have a kidney donor!
From my limited understanding, there are a few things that come into play. When a new kidney starts working, it starts filtering like crazy right off the bat. Even though I was already peeing a normal amount before the transplant, I think there may have been some excess water stored in me that the original kidneys weren't getting rid of. Additionally, they flush me with a lot of fluids during the surgery, and because I was already peeing sufficiently, this means I have 3 kidneys that are filtering all the liquid. By night number 2, it was nowhere near 3.5 gallons.
good stuff
Re: I have a kidney donor!
well, this is very nice to hear. Glad you are done with dialysis.
Re: I have a kidney donor!
Myth what was wrong with your original kidney? Had you been suffering for a long time?
I was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease (IgA Nephropathy) in 2004. My kidneys slowly deteriorated since then, and I was placed on a transplant list in 2010. Just in the beginning of June, I started peritoneal dialysis, but luckily this came along so that I don't have to stay on dialysis as I move down to Califnornia.
Re: I have a kidney donor!
Out of the hospital. A couple notes on some of the worse, but not fully expected parts:
1. I got plugged up and couldn't poop for a few days, and spent about 18 hours in pain as my stomach churned but was blocked up. That was worse than the actual surgery pain because the surgical scar only hurts when touched or moving, but the lack of pooping hurt no matter what I did.
2. I hate having a urine catheter. That tube is way too big considering the size of the hole they put it in. I never want to see blood around my dick hole ever again (I could have said this before the experience too, but it is still valid). The worse part about the catheter was getting a random boner, especially in the middle of the night. Not much worse than sleeping when suddenly you get a boner and everything swells and stretches out around a catheter, and if feels like something is currently being pushed into your dick hole. Removing the catheter wasn't much fun either, but actually not as bad as I expected.
Re: I have a kidney donor!
Scoooter - I keep my originals too. It causes more trauma on the body to have them removed, so they remain in place and the new kidney was added to my right hip. I have a big nasty scar that goes from my right hip and curls down to the bottom of my happy trail. If I ever get another transplant on my left him, I'm hoping it completes a smiley face scar.
That I wouldn't have expected. Utterly fascinating.

yep, that's Sami. She's an awesome dog, and that from a guy who previously disregarded pretty much any dog under 40 lb.

All uphill from here, man. And agreed about the catheter. As uncomfortable as it was, I thought taking it out would suck. But it wasn't that bad.

Re: I have a kidney donor!
Update:
I have follow up surgery this Monday, which also happens to be my birthday. Originally, they were going to have this surgery (removal of my peritoneal catheter from dialysis), a procedure to remove the stint on my bladder (10 minutes of using a scope and clamp to go up through my dick to remove it), and remove my staples from the incision all on separate dates. The timeline was close between the follow up surgery and the stint removal, so I asked them to go up my dick while I'm out for surgery, and the doctors all looked at each other like they hadn't considered that and said, "Hmm, I guess that would make sense." Couldn't believe these guys can be so smart but then lack the common sense to assume that I'd prefer they do it at the same time rather than go through my dick while I'm awake. This morning, they decided to remove the staples at the same time, which is also a bonus, but not as big of a deal.
Also, I jerked it for the first time on Sunday, and apparently the urine catheter wasn't very nice to me (it was removed on Friday). After finishing, my dick turned all purple near the base like all the blood vesicles broke. Scary shit seeing your dick look like a bruise :lol

Re: I have a kidney donor!
best of luck on the follow up surgery. i've had a catheter and dialysis before, not pleasant experiences. i've been banned by my doctor from sexual activity for two weeks after my surgery which was a week ago, removing a tumor near my belt.
