[h=1]Despite a game that was over from the beginning, Utah Jazz stick with core rotation vs. Brooklyn Nets[/h]
what's new
On a night early in the season, on the first night of a back-to-back set, when it was clear the Jazz weren’t making a dent in the Nets’ lead, why wasn’t Shaquille Harrison thrown in for a few minutes to see if he could help contain Kyrie Irving? Why wasn’t there any variation away from the norm?
yep. More Niang, Oni and Shaq(Morgan too when he's available). Brantley wasn't dressed in his place either!
When asked after the game on Tuesday whether limited practice forced Snyder to go with his core rotation rather than reaching further down the bench, he didn’t offer much insight.
it's never stopped him in the past until last year
On the other hand, if any of those rotational players have to miss games, the ones who step in to fill in the gaps are going to have very limited experience outside of mop-up minutes, which is what they played on Tuesday.
Moreso why not try something else when it's not working!
Bojan Bogdanovic was forcing shot, Joe Ingles’ fouls were obvious and ill-timed, Gobert’s finishing was horrible, Jordan Clarkson’s turnovers were confusing at best and Donovan Mitchell, who scored 31 points, had to work way too hard for a 10-of-22 night and defensively wasn’t really present.
Bojan is horrible. The fact that he doesn't get pulled is a joke!
https://www.slcdunk.com/2021/1/5/22216305/playing-without-kevin-durant-kyrie-irving-and-jarrett-allen-demolish-the-utah-jazz-brooklyn-nets
The Jazz have to find a way to stop these bad losses. It’s one thing to lose a close one to the Nets minus Kyrie Irving. Irving hall of fame level talent and can go off like this on any given night, or even most nights, but for Utah to lose by this big is troubling. Utah is now 4-3 with some up and down victories and losses. Where is the consistency?
how they going to fins a way when they just keep doing the same thing for 2 years?
And that’s the question we need to start asking. This team just dolled out two huge contracts and is going hard for a title. How much of this can the Jazz front office stomach? There has to be some sort of consistency with this team and with how much development they’ve put into this, they deserve to see some other players get a chance to prove themselves. Juwan Morgan has proven himself in the playoffs. Miye Oni is ready. When do we see hard work pay off and bad effort or play not tolerated? So many times it seems that the only improvement comes from executing better. When will Quin Snyder start tweaking lineups? Something has to change and it can’t just be “play better.”
how much can I stomach of the front office and coach that puts this out there? We don't know if Oni is ready. He looks ready. Morgan was at worst solid last year and looks better. Shaq looks good in garbage time. Niang looks good in his brief stints
[h=4]The crazy thing is it will cost Quin his job if they don't improve.[/h]
Donny really wasn’t much better but at least he made some plays. The Nets were desperate for a win, losing 4/5 and we played like it didn’t matter. Morgan was out for covid protocol but it seemed like we were all playing like we had covid like symptoms.
I always worry after games like this whether it means our roster just isn’t good enough top to bottom to compete; or was it just one game in a long season and stuff happens. Those 2 crazy 3’s early on by Kyrie maybe indicate the latter.
The game plan is definitely out on us though. Just crowd the 3 point line, force us to drive, and just stand tall between Rudy and the basket.

Mitchell doesn't defend. Gobert was alright. Allen was just better. The roster isn't good enough. You been paying attention? Bradley was the problem and Favors will solve all!
We need at least Ingles or Conley one of them on the floor consistently. Lineup that consists of Royce, Donovan, Bojan, Clarkson, and either Rudy or Favors is not enough to pass the ball fluently and also except Royce and our big guys nobody plays defense here. I frequently saw this lineup coming and never saw something going well.

what will be key is rather Snyder does his job and pulls Bojan when he's sucking
[h=1]The Utah Jazz hang their hat on defense but aren’t defending anymore[/h]
this is a year late :facepalm
But I thought it was all Bradley's fault and Favors would save them!
The Utah Jazz may be on the brink of an identity crisis. For half a decade the team’s identity revolved around defense and a slow but efficient offense. And the peak, those Jazz teams were defensive juggernauts.
Outside Rudy I wouldn't call their offense efficient
The below-average defensive numbers for 2020-21 probably won’t hold for the entire season, but dropping four points per 100 possessions is something that needs to be compensated for. More offense is really the only way to do that so how is Utah doing there? No better than the last few years. For several seasons, expectations from fans and media were that at some point the Jazz would move to a faster-paced offense and, far more important than pushing the pace, a scoring attack that could keep up with the best.
why won't they hold? Snyder is going to play Morgan, Shaq and Oni? The offense will be fine
1. Mitchell needs to stop talking about playing defense and actually do it. He should be our lockdown perimeter defender.
2. Bogey needs to put forth just a little bit of effort on D. I’m not asking him to become elite, but he needs to try a little.
3. When Mitchell isn’t cutting it, Shaq should probably get time as a defensive specialist before some wing goes nuts on us.
4. Royce is doing fine—just don’t ask him to do things that he can’t.
you really have hope of things changing with Mitchell at this point? Bojan sucks especially if he's not hitting shots. Snyder is going to do something different? A 6'4 guy shouldn't be asked to be a PF?
Joe has the ball on the left side on a fast break. Wide open at the 3 point line. In rhythm. Decides to drive to the basket where a larger defender awaits. Joe passes to a teammate who takes a heavily guarded 3 point shot with loads of time left on the clock. Don’t we work our offense to get a wide open three? So, when we have one given to us, why do we pass it up? It certainly can’t be because we are waiting for rebounders to get into position (we don’t pursue offensive rebounds that aggressively).
I bring this up because we have trouble making decisions, even when the choice is obvious. And, this is why our defense fails so often. It seems that Jae Crowder took all of our basketball IQ with him when he left. I really feel that our unintelligent play is at the feet of QS. We don’t look coached. And, we certainly don’t look inspired. This is sad.
I hope we play better tonight.

this is what you're worried about? Again Rudy is the one part of the organization that you don't have to worry about
"We came out strong and we lost our focus," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "Whether we're making our shots or not … To me, it's a question of focus. It's the little things."
Glad it has nothing to do with you sticking with the same guys regardless
Austin Rivers scored 14 points to end the game, turning a tie game into a comfortable win for the Knicks. Rivers is hardly the first guard to go off on Utah. While that is a point of concern going forward since Royce O'Neale doesn't seem to have the athleticism needed to check the Kyrie Irvings and Jamal Murrays of the league and the Jazz don't really have a Plan B, Rivers really isn't the type of player that should have caused the Jazz that much trouble.
supposedly Shaq and Oni were plan B. Glad COTY is smarter than the rest of us though!
It has become a pattern for Quin Snyder-coached Utah teams to start slowly. But for most seasons there was a built-in excuse: The Jazz were figuring out life with Gordon Hayward, an early injury to Rudy Gobert, needing time to learn to play together.
You forgot tanking, Ricky shit show, no PF...
"We have a tendency as a fan base to kind of go crazy during a poor start. During my four years, we've had stretches like this," Mitchell said. "If we continue to sit here and feel depressed and upset, you know it's not going to change. I'm not saying we're expecting this just click at some point in time, we got to do the work. … We're gonna do this, we're gonna be fine."
You're a big reason for stretches like this. You've never gotten going before December!
[h=2]Jazz Scorers Aren’t Scoring[/h]
not really worried about that. Defense, Snyder etc. or the same things as last year despite Bradley not being here to blame for it all
Just as if Rudy Gobert was to forget how to defend the paint, or Royce O’Neale ceased to rebound, the Jazz would be in trouble. The problem against New York is that all three of the Jazz scoring safety valves failed and in the starting lineup and it repeatedly dug the team too big of a hole to climb out of.
the problem is the coach not changing things up especially with Bojan who is absolutely worthless if he's not hitting and he has sucked almost all season
It feels like he needs time away from the court to get his mind right, but the Jazz don’t have two consecutive days off until January 24 and 25.
seriously? It's the same guy we've seen for 3 plus years now. A couple days off will magically change things?
[h=2]Jazz Getting Cooked By Guards[/h]
again nothing new and what they should be most concerned about. They expect Royce to do everything defensively while also being their 2nd rebounder. Get a starting PF!
The Jazz do have Shaquille Harrison who is a notable defender stuck as the 10th man on the roster in a nine-man rotation. With Mitchell, Conley, Joe Ingles, and Jordan Clarkson all in the guard rotation ahead of him, it might be difficult to find minutes, but if the Jazz continue to struggle in isolation matchups on the perimeter, a player with Harrison’s defensive reputation may have to find his way into the lineup.
Oni and Morgan are also ahead of him. But glad the Wizard solved all their problems with Favors and Shaq!
