Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
Yep semantics. Socialism can come in all sorts of forms, we have always been partly socialist as we have always have handouts such as food stamps and welfare programs. However it is that you define socialism, doesn't mean that Trump giving out a ton doesn't fall into the same category.
You genuinely have no idea what you're talking about :lol
You genuinely have no idea what you're talking about :lol
how would you define socialism and what real world examples would you give of socialism then?
I think what Bill Gates said is fine. Definitions exists so we have agreed upon meanings of words when we converse, and words like socialism and communism has been bastardized throughout the years to mean totally different things, but in the context of the conversation, when he says ‘socialism’ you know what he means so is there a point in nitpicking to such a degree?
Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
Socialism means a worker controlled economy. That has absolutely nothing to do with Trump and his corporate dicksucking. People misusing words doesn't change their definition.
Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
In it's most simple explanation, and the way Doomsday and probably every other right leaning poster here views it, Socialism is spreading out wealth by taxing the wealthy and giving it to the unwealthy. Which in theory helps close the wealth gaps.
Like I said earlier, socialism comes in a plethora of forms. And I am sure RRR3 has a more advanced view of the term, or so he claims anyway. That doesn't mean that what I have said is off, or didn't directly address what Doomsday was getting at.
Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
Even by your insane definition of socialism Trump was far from it considering wealth inequality was horrible when he was president. The only people he helped were the rich.
Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
All of his handouts funneled directly to the rich, yes. So I agree that is who he helped the most.

Which is the antithesis of socialism. Learn definitions please.

I am not trying to declare that Trump is an actual socialist, he is far from it obviously. We have never had a real socialist POTUS. The gist of Doomsday's post was that Trump gave out the most free money. And he is correct there. What you are debating is pure semantics, just the definition of socialism. If you want to call free handouts some other word, go right ahead it doesn't matter.
Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
Handouts to the rich is capitalism, not socialism. Again, learn definitions. This is like someone arguing that bowling is the same as baseball because they both involve strikes.

When you dump a trillion dollars on the poor, they are going to immediately spend that money, and it is going to go directly to a rich man. In the process though, those poor people get fed. That is a start. Where Trump fails to be a real socialist is that he doesn't continue to tax the rich man and give it back to the poor in an infinite cycle. He just let the rich man keep it. So yes you are right, Trump is not a real socialist, but he did give out the most which was what Doomsday was getting at.
Re: RED WAVE Meltdown Thread, 2024-2028
Actually my example of the farmers bailout, where Trump was continually bailing out farmers year after year with billions in tax money. It isn't far off.

How does that work... like unions?

It really depends on who you ask based upon the strain of socialism they subscribe to, but that would definitely be the syndicalist answer, yes.

Yeah no the government bailing out corporations, banks, etc. is very capitalist.
