Re: Is Donovan Mitchell still a superstar? Cuz AR does what he does but passes better
If Reaves was considered a superstar his senior year, then he would've been selected well before the 42nd selection where Detroit wanted to draft him..
He's gotten better under the tutelage of LeBron.
Reaves has had to live in the shadow of Lebron and Luka, while Mitchell has not. There's the difference. If their roles were reversed, AR would be the star and the big draw, and Mitchell would not. Head to head, I'd say Reaves is the slightly better player overall. He has better court IQ than Mitchell.
Mitchell lived in the shadow of gobert and conley sadly
I hate when people log online and talk total bullshit just because they are pushing an agenda.
One guy has a signature shoe, the other guy doesn't.
One guy is a 6 time all-star, the other guy has never, not even a rising stars challenge.
One guy has been on regional 2k covers.
I mean what the hell are we even talking about Reaves is more known just because he plays for the Lakers? Do you think people know who Jarred Vanderbilt is and they don't know who Zion Williamson is?
Jump off a cliff, seriously. This is that total warped mind Laker fan drivel that believes the world revolves around them and the NBA is only relevant when they're good. STFU.
I'm just saying how it is. Reaves has a pretty large following because he's on the Lakers and playing next to two superstars that also have a large following, thus he gets more exposure. He's had big games and moments in the Playoffs for the Lakers from the 1st round to the Western Conference Finals. If he plays at this level going forward in LA he'll be one of the biggest names in the league just off the strength of playing in that market.
I just don't get how you say that only hardcore fans know who Reaves is lmao. He's playing in one of the two biggest markets in the league and is playing at a very high level. Of course everyone knows who he is, so whenever he has a big game like the 51 he just dropped it gets half a million views on youtube within a few weeks. More people care because he's a Laker.

Reaves has 1 million followers vs Mitchell 4 million.
Again, I don't even know what we're talking about. Mitchell is engaged to a pretty popular singer Coco Jones (5m followers), so he's getting spotlight by association.
This isnt even a conversation who is leaps and bounds more popular, gets more endorsements, more jersey sales, more decorated in NBA awards, etc. When I say the casual doesn't know Reaves, I mean someone who watches 5 or less NBA games a year, and only watches socially (with a friend, at a bar, because their husband/BF watches).
My mom is the definition of a casual who would know Mitchell and have no clue about Reaves. She has never in her entire life watched a full basketball game, despite my dad being a league pass owner who watches every game. She might sit for 5 minutes here and there to watch the very end or ask who won. She will know the major names, Klay Thompson, James Harden, Wemby. She will be able to pick them all out of a lineup, and get at least 60% right what team they play for without multiple choice. She would absolutely believe that Austin Reaves is a baseball player and so would most casuals.
1 million followers while playing in the biggest market is tuppence. Nobody knows him.
