Paige looked better. He's going to have to put on some weight I'd think though to play in the league.
I like Wallace. Bolomboy sucked. Ford is better than last year's D-league hopeful O'Brien.

Right now I see it as Rudy/Favors/Hayward/Hill/Mack with Burks/Hood/Johnson/Diaw/Lyles off the bench. Neto/Exum/Ingles/Johnson/Pleiss bench. Trade Withey. Ford to the D-league. Exum possibly D-league until he's ready to beat someone out for minutes. Neto is too good for the D-league I think. He was a solid starter last year. Could change in camp. 3 spots for camp open. Probably be looking for more guys on partial guarantees for the D-league team. Probably need a couple more bigs for camp anyway. Bolomboy doesn't look like one of them yet. Should be the most competitive camp in a long time.

Looks like he's starting at the moment.

Bolomboy is in the mix and Pleiss isn't? :facepalm
He’s on the books for $3 million in the 2016-2017 campaign, but Utah could decide to move on and waive him if they’re unable to find a trade partner, which seems unlikely given his lack of value.
Lindsey said there was interest in all their players at the trade deadline. They moved their other guy that hasn't really proven himself in Burke.

Not sure they lacked any of that they just got more of it. The one thing I see that they got was 3 good players who can all shoot the ball. They will smash all Jazz 3 point records I'm sure.
Jazz are way higher on Exum than you are. Exum will not play behind Neto or Mack and they sure as hell aren't sending him to the D-League.
They will ease Exum in to make sure he is 100% after the injury. To start the year, Jazz depth chart will be:
Hill/Exum/Mack
Burks/Hood
Hayward/Johnson
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Diaw/Withey
By the end of the year, presuming everyone is healthy, Exum could slide into the starting spot and the wing rotation might change. The only guaranteed starter on the wing is Hayward, though I do think Johnson will primarily play off the bench (with Diaw) to provide the second unit with experience and poise. I expect Johnson to finish most close games, though.
I see Diaw as the third big, and will spell whomever of Favors/Gobert gets into foul trouble.
As far as trading Withey, who knows? Would have liked the Jazz to have gotten Bogut since he was available for nothing, and is on the last year of his deal. A one year rental could have worked out nicely. Oh well. Would like to see the Jazz get Ezeli if possible, given that Diaw is 34 and on the last year of his deal. Diaw has 2-3 years left in the league whereas Ezeli is only 28. Signing him would guarantee we would go over the cap to resign Favors, Gobert, and Hayward, but that seems to be an inevitability if the Jazz are serious about keeping their core together.
Jazz are way higher on Exum than you are. Exum will not play behind Neto or Mack and they sure as hell aren't sending him to the D-League.
They will ease Exum in to make sure he is 100% after the injury.
If he's not 100% he can rehab in the D-league and learn how to run a team like he should have two years ago. From what they are saying people will actually have to earn their minutes again finally.
Neto was better last year then Exum was as a rookie. He plays both ends of the court and does all the things they want from him hit open 3's, play D, pass, and run the pick and roll.
The one thing Exum did well he may not be able to do coming off knee surgery. Other than 3 quarters or whatever it was in a Summer League game we've seen absolutely nothing from Exum offensively. He had a historically bad offensive year and his lack of aggression was worrisome before he blew out his knee.
I hope he's everything people hype him up to be but until he actually shows on the court it he shouldn't be given nothing. Trey Burke would be a lot better off now if he'd had to earn his way as a Jazz man. Right now I'd be happy if Exum could defend multiple positions and hit open 3's. Until than he shouldn't be playing if they are in win now mode which they do appear to be a year later thanks to Hayward's coming free agency.
Mack was one of their best players and should be the starter going in to camp until someone shows they can run the team better. They had the number 1 D while he started too so the one thing Exum is hailed for they didn't miss once they had Mack running the offense. The lack of respect he(and to a lesser extent Neto who was a solid starter and role player) has been given since they got Hill, is sad really after the way he played.
Burks/Hood
So why do you have Burks starting over Hood when everyone else seems to think Hood is an automatic starter?
I do think Johnson will primarily play off the bench (with Diaw) to provide the second unit with experience and poise.
They will be on the bench because of their D.
I expect Johnson to finish most close games, though.
I can see the end of game guys changing a lot now. Quin is not Jerry and actually makes moves based on game situations and match-ups.
As far as trading Withey, who knows?
He has to go. He's a rotation player rather Quin likes him or not. He shouldn't have to sit the bench for another year.
Would have liked the Jazz to have gotten Bogut since he was available for nothing, and is on the last year of his deal. A one year rental could have worked out nicely.
Doesn't hit the 3. Probably had no interest despite him being an Aussie.
Would like to see the Jazz get Ezeli if possible, given that Diaw is 34 and on the last year of his deal. Diaw has 2-3 years left in the league whereas Ezeli is only 28.
So Lyles goes to the bench? If they sign another big it won't be a rotation player. Will be to upgrade Pleiss.
Signing him would guarantee we would go over the cap to resign Favors, Gobert, and Hayward, but that seems to be an inevitability if the Jazz are serious about keeping their core together.
They'll go over the cap, probably this year. Doesn't sound like they'll ever pay the tax again though.

Way too early to tell. I like their 60th pick. He might not be ready this year but maybe next like Hanlan.
1st Rounder (Oklahoma City Thunder) - This is the theoretical pick from the Kanter trade. It's really theoretical though, as it has lottery protection (1st to 14th pick) in 2018, 2019, and 2020. So even if a Kevin Durant less- Thunder miss the NBA Playoffs this season we're not getting the pick. Same with next year, and the following year after that. In fact, if the Jazz do not get this pick at all over the next three years then this glorious 1st rounder defaults into two 2nd rounders (2020, and 2021). What a bad pick. It's like the Jazz were highly motivated to move Kanter and weren't getting a lot for him.
Too early to say. If they keep Westbrook they could make the playoffs. 15th pick next year would be nice. As far as Kanter they got a lot just not paying him and letting Rudy loose on the league. Still have Pleiss too.

At the very least Mack is a really easy contract to move.
While I think Neto may be able to do a lot of what Mack does and more in some cases it's whack to think cutting one of your top players is ok.
And it's the last year of that contract, so I don't know if he wants a raise. He could if he has a good season.
He wants a raise especially if he is starting like everyone seems to think is a given. If he didn't he might take the renegotiated contract they can offer.
The rest of the point guards on the books are really cheap, but are all going to want raises too. The Jazz have a team option for Dante next season, and then in 2018-2019 he'll be playing in the first year of his new deal. If he deserves to make 10% of the cap then he'll be making $10.800 million that season. If he wants "average" that would be $16.200 million.
Who cares what he wants? First he has to prove he's an NBA player.
Mack is in a contract year, and hopefully he's not playing to the point where he wants 10% of the cap too, I know he's homies with Butler, but you shouldn't be reliant upon your third point guard to do anything.
When your 3rd pg is one of your best players you do. :wtf:
And none of them are our 20 year old point guard who missed all of last season.
That has never shown he's actually got pg skills or that he can actually play in the league.
I think he should start if we're starting our best players. If he doesn't and Hood starts that's cool too.
What if they are both on the bench? I don't see Johnson starting because he's not one of their best players. :confusedshrug::confusedshrug:
The year after Gordon's big deal Rodney Hood needs a raise. Is he going to command the "average" that we expect for a starter, 15%? If that's the case Hood is going to be earning that $16.200 million on average per season going forward.
A good reason to bring Hood off the bench is because you may not have to pay him as much.
In that regard, Alec Burks' $11.537 million is a steal.
But let's trade him!
Chris Johnson, man, I don't know if he makes this team when Dante and Shelvin can play some wing, and Boris and Trey can as well.
Doubt Boris has played the 3 for a long time and Trey hasn't at this level and though they did play Mack at the 2 he's a 1. Main reason I think Johnson might be expendable is because Hill and maybe Exum do what he does defensively. I think his energy will be missed though especially with Booker gone.
I do like the idea of six full-time wing players though, but I think that with his contract not being guaranteed until January -- so he's going to probably need to earn his spot in training camp.
I think he's got his work cut out for him. At least one guy has to go and Withey makes the most sense since they don't really like him. You forgot Ford who is signed.
Gobert is in a contract year, and he's the only bigman who is in a situation to really improve his living situation with a great season.
Doubt it matters. He's getting max unless he wants to take the security of a deal now.
But that's the game you have to (overpay) play when you are a small market team who can really only build through the draft.
will it be an overpay though?
The 5th big is still up in the air for me. Tibor Pleiss is on the books this upcoming season for $3.000 million. Did you see Withey play? Hard to see him not making any team in the league. He would be playing for most of them and could start on some. He's 5 without a doubt if not 3 in reality. But he needs to go. He's not appreciated here obviously.
If he makes the Jazz they can pretty much park him all season with the Salt Lake City Stars.
What makes you think this since they don't like to use the D-league?
It's going to be interesting to see what happens in training camp between Withey, Pleiss, and Bolomboy.
Sad if Bolomboy is even in camp. Stash.
It's a shame that two are probably not going to make it -- because though they are all limited players, they do also bring something to the table.
What is Withey limited by? He doesn't shoot 3's? 2 of them could certainly make it.
So yeah, need to add some more -- which is why it surprised me that Dennis Lindsey said that the team was done making moves until training camp.
I figured he was done with Hill. The current roster tells me that They aren't sure Exum will be ready. Exum and Neto are out of the rotation now. How many guys you think they will bench? They will see how things shake out in camp and then you could see more moves. With cap space they will be a player up through the draft possibly.
the team didn't really lose any of their young core to get these guys.
Not yet. Can you really bench Neto all year though?
After all, they are STILL under the cap by double digits. Something else could happen still.
Might be able to use their cap space for more assets again.
Wallace didn't play tonight. Ankle sprain? Lyles isn't getting much help
The way Trey Lyles is playing — and the way the NBA is paying — the second-year power forward is bound to get a max summer league contract next year.
Won't be next year but he's going to get paid.
Jazz assistant Mike Wells, who is coaching the team in Las Vegas, said the team is hopeful Lyles can grow into that stretch-four role that’s become such an integral part of so many teams’ offenses in the modern NBA.
They prefer playmaking 4
Resting Lyles tonight. See if anyone else steps up. Not sure Lyles is the best playmaker yet. He does like to shoot!
That has never shown he's actually got pg skills or that he can actually play in the league.
If I live to be 110, I may still never understand how you believe that Withey has shown he belongs in the league, but Exum hasn't.
Exum has much to learn offensively, to be be sure. But his defense as a 19 year old rookie was borderline elite, at the position generally regarded as being the toughest to defend and the hardest to learn offensively.
Your darling Neto, by comparison, sucked balls last year within the halfcourt defense. He could pester whomever brought up the ball in the backcourt, but after that, he was too small and too inexperienced to do anything else. Everyone says Hill has been brought in to soften the cushion for Exum to ease back into major minutes. While that is true, make no mistake: Hill has also been brought in because Neto isn't good enough. MAYBE he'll end up as the new Howard Eisley down the road, but that is his ceiling. Exum ceiling is legitimate star.
And Exum is not out of the rotation. Neto is. Hill will start, Exum will back him up, Mack will play sparingly. The Jazz are super high on Exum and see him as part of the core. They aren't benching him unless he isn't 100% physically, and they aren't sending him to the D-League.
You say Exum has a lot to prove; how is he supposed to do that if he doesn't play? He looked great last year in limited time in summer league. He's had a year to pick the brains of the coaching staff and watch film. He's still only 20 years old but he has physical gifts that you can't teach. That Neto and Mack will never have.
Seems like you're done with him because he wasn't Derrick Rose the first time he stepped into an NBA game. People really want to see him play because they realize what he could become; yet you're irritated because you are holding him to an impossibly high standard and he didn't achieve it as a 19 year old rookie who had never played anything beyond high school basketball in Australia before coming to the NBA. That puts him in the boat of "must still prove he's an NBA player," yet somehow Withey and Neto don't have to achieve half as much and you're convinced both should be getting major minutes and Exum should be banished to the D-League?
If I live to be 110, I may still never understand how you believe that Withey has shown he belongs in the league, but Exum hasn't.
Withey looked like Gobert-lite. Exum showed he could be a defensive specialist in the league which is on the fringe of being on an NBA roster(see Chris johnson) before he blew out his knee. He hasn't shown me anything since other than he can dribble two balls at once at a camp for kids.
Exum has much to learn offensively, to be be sure. But his defense as a 19 year old rookie was borderline elite, at the position generally regarded as being the toughest to defend and the hardest to learn offensively.
Ok and that player would not be god enough to play for the current team. Can he still defend? Has he added anything else?
Your darling Neto, by comparison, sucked balls last year within the halfcourt defense. He could pester whomever brought up the ball in the backcourt, but after that, he was too small and too inexperienced to do anything else.
Yet the best Jazz line-ups had him in them.
Everyone says Hill has been brought in to soften the cushion for Exum to ease back into major minutes. While that is true, make no mistake: Hill has also been brought in because Neto isn't good enough.
He was brought in because he can play. Hood was a bigger problem on D. I think ideally they see Exum/Hill together in the backcourt but until than it should be Mack/Hill
MAYBE he'll end up as the new Howard Eisley down the road, but that is his ceiling.
He's already better than Eisley.
Exum ceiling is legitimate star.
That's what I keep hearing but until I actually see a hint of it other than for part of a summer league game on a good knee I'll have to remain skeptical. It's about actual performance with the team now not potential. Potential is for the D-league.
And Exum is not out of the rotation. Neto is. Hill will start, Exum will back him up, Mack will play sparingly.
You may be right but that's certainly not how I see it. You're putting someone who has done nothing ahead of guys that have proven something.
The Jazz are super high on Exum and see him as part of the core. They aren't benching him unless he isn't 100% physically, and they aren't sending him to the D-League.
They may not. Doesn't mean they shouldn't.
You say Exum has a lot to prove; how is he supposed to do that if he doesn't play?
He does it when he's playing against them before camp, during camp and at practice. He'll get his chance to prove it in the fall. If he sucks in exhibition play he shouldn't play over guys that don't suck no matter how long his reach is and how young he is and how fast he is. I grew up when guys played because they were good not because of upside.
He looked great last year in limited time in summer league.
Actually he looked timid and fat to start the one game he played. He turned it on which was very encouraging. Cotton had a great game in summer league last year too.
He's had a year to pick the brains of the coaching staff and watch film. He's still only 20 years old but he has physical gifts that you can't teach.
Great. Does his knee still allow him to be the player he was physically though?
That Neto and Mack will never have.
True but they are actually basketball players not prospects. They know how to pay the game. Exum has yet to show he does.
Seems like you're done with him because he wasn't Derrick Rose the first time he stepped into an NBA game.
I'm not done with him. I hope he becomes all he's supposed to be but until I see something I want guys to play that are good not potentially good.
People really want to see him play because they realize what he could become; yet you're irritated because you are holding him to an impossibly high standard and he didn't achieve it as a 19 year old rookie who had never played anything beyond high school basketball in Australia before coming to the NBA.
Expecting a guy to be of NBA caliber is expecting too much? It's one thing when you are tanking to play guys that shouldn't be playing but now they are playing to win. They are supposed to lose games because Exum might be good someday? That cost them the playoffs last year with Lyles sucking with Withey on the bench.
That puts him in the boat of "must still prove he's an NBA player," yet somehow Withey and Neto don't have to achieve half as much and you're convinced both should be getting major minutes and Exum should be banished to the D-League?
Withey and Neto have both showed me they can play. Exum has shown me absolutely nothing. What he did before his knee injury is nothing now. He's coming off a major injury He may never be the same physically. If he's still developing he needs to do that in the D-league not taking minutes from guys who are better players now. The D-league is there for a reason. He might have actually learned how to be a pg in the D-league instead of struggling with the Jazz.
Wallace showed a lot tonight.
