Alabama Leading US in COVID-19 Death Rate Over Last 2 Weeks
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama has averaged more than 100 deaths a day from COVID-19 over the last week, statistics showed Thursday, giving it the nation's highest death rate over the period even as hospitalizations linked to the coronavirus pandemic continue to decline.
Statistics from Johns Hopkins University show 106 deaths were reported statewide daily over the last seven days, although some of those could have occurred earlier because of a lag in reporting. Alabama's rate of 18 deaths for every 100,000 people over the last week is far above second-place West Virginia (another low vax state), which had 10 deaths per 100,000 people, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Of course now that so many people in Alabama had covid they are now benefiting from natural immunity. The problem with natural immunity is that you have to get covid to get it, and that leads to a lot of deaths.

I thought tontoz had Cleverness on ignore? Well since we know now that that isn't true, can tontoz respond to Cleverness instead of disappearing?
tontoz, see:
Explain what, you ask? Well, try reading the post. Your assertion was about "low vax states," so I followed up with clearly stating that AL & MS are the least vaccinated states in the country, and then I clearly asked how do they currently have some of the lowest case rates in the country. I guess reading isn't your strong suit.
When one claims that "hospitals are flooded" and parrots the official narrative around vaccines, then asking how many people are in the hospital and how much the vaccine reduces hospitalizations & death is not "nonsensical" by any means. :facepalm
The followups to tontoz's (bizarre) claims were here, but tontoz disappeared:
So now tontoz is saying that Florida is currently 49th in daily cases because of their mask use. Well, what is their current mask compliance? How is it compared to the rest of the US? Let's take a look at the data.
(PS: I just came back from FL and, fsvr54 also pointed out, mask use in FL is a joke. To imply that the masses are correctly wearing masks at high rates, as well "increased social distancing" as he claims, let alone masks that actually work (fitted N95s in specific situations), is completely absurd.)
Furthermore, we're still waiting any known (or even estimated) benefits of masks so far.
How many masks have been worn in the US?
How many infections have they prevented so far?

Re: How is Alabama currently 42nd in daily Covid cases?
Looks like tontoz cracked the riddle. They all died and now there is no one left to get covid :(

Thanks for the death rate data, but as you know, the tally for deaths with Covid lag. Anyways, let's recap.
The reason Alabama is "controlling" the virus now is because of natural immunity, but the reason Florida is controlling the virus is because of "vigilant with social distancing" and "increased mask use." Is this correct?

Yeah you can still see thread titles from people you have on ignore. Funny to see someone act like Alabama is some kind of success story.
Delta goes through states in waves. It didn't peak at the same time in each state. Seemed like it hit the south first then worked it's way up north.
High vaxed states never got into crisis of care status.
For the record Florida isn't a low vaxed state. Their vax rate is above average among states. The low vax states really got hammered when Delta hit it's peak. Here are the lowest vaxed states currently:

Btw, I live in FL and travel all over the central and greater central FL areas and masks are a far more rare occurrence than they are common. Attributing FL's plummeting covid cases to mask usage is all-time hilarious

So natural immunity works? And you already acknowledged the vaccine dosn't reduce the spread. So what in the f*ck are you arguing dummy? If the vaccine dosn't reduce the spread and natural immunity works and children are as protected as fully vaccinated person why are you arguing that everyone should be vaccinated? Just those 2 groups alone are millions and millions of people that don't need the vaccine.

That's why I asked him to back up that claim regarding FL's social distancing and mask use being the reason for the drop in cases.
I'd also like to see some studies on how many cumulative infections have been prevented by people wearing masks before they sit down at a restaurant. One of the (rare) places that I went to in FL that had a sign saying "masks required" was a packed Chipotle. Even the staff weren't wearing their usual cloth masks. :lol
