Sweden was projected to have 100,000 COVID deaths by end of June, but will that actually happen?

June 26th - they're currently at 5,280 deaths with COVID-19. (Population of Sweden: 10.1 million)

It seems the virus is about 5% as deadly as projected, perhaps even less since it's only killing people who are already dying of other illnesses. Here's the data on Sweden:

74% of deaths were in care homes / home-help services (they could have done better in this area)

Median age of Sweden is 40.9 years old.

0.4% of deaths in <40 years old

99.6% of deaths 40+ years old
96% of deaths in 60+ years old
90% of deaths in 70+ years old


There are approximately 90,000 deaths each year in Sweden. 88,822 people died in 2019 – the lowest number of deaths in a single year since 1977, and 3.3% less than the average over 2016–2018. The Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 may have claimed a larger number of [B]very frail and elderly people than it would have in a different year, due to the previous influenza season being less severe.[/B] Indeed, 2018-19 was reported to have been less intense than the five previous flu seasons in Sweden.

[B]All cause mortality[/B] in Sweden for Jan 1 - June 14 is roughly the same as 2015. By the end of the year it will probably be lower. Remember how deadly 2015 was? Yeah, no, you don't.

Did not panic everyday
Did not print trillions of dollars for big banks/corporations

i remember watching the interview with sweden's leader or whatever... guy was basically shrugging it off and saying they arent following the hysteria.

Their neighbors at their land border Norway and Finland has 249 and 328 deaths in doing conventional lockdown measures. Still giving Sweden props for thinking outside the box and beating that predictions. Over 5k deaths and most of them are dead men walking (over 70). Still far from their end game, so called herd immunity which at least 50% cases. So they need over 5 millions cases and going by their death rate so far , at least 400 k lives of the sick and the trails or in their case, the old. I’m pulling for that experiment and hopefully it works.

Hmmm not really. What South Korea did was conventional . Mass testing, tracing and mandatory isolation have been a established guideline for preventing epidemic outbreaks . Though they both did not imposed a lockdown, Sweden went on zero fcuks given and roll the dice with herb immunity.

Korea was not conventional at all. What mass testing? They have a quarter of the US's tests per capita. South Korea threw big data analysis into movement tracked by cell phones to estimate potential carriers. They then used that to initiate contact tracing. That way you don't need an army of professional to get the job done. They then extrapolated where their hot zones are and established rapid testing stations in just those zones. No other country did this. Meanwhile in the West, we were busy debating how not to hurt people's liberties, freedoms, consumer confidence and their fragile mentality until we decided to just take those things away anyways. Oh and their jobs and business as well while we're at it. But not the big businesses because they're "important".

They did a mass testing on particular church group when they have an initial outbreak. About 4 k out of 240 k was positive. They were already producing 100 k test kits a day after they have a positive case January 20.

74% of deaths were in care homes / home-help services (they admitted they could have done better to protect the old folks homes, but overall a huge success).

100,000 projected dead turned out to be roughly no difference in all cause mortality from 2015. No overwhelmed hospitals. The long-term benefits of not having a lockdown and mass destruction of daily lives (including children) was a huge success. We should have followed Sweden the entire time. Too bad we went the opposite direction and quarantined our young/healthy, stole liberty from everyone, shoved COVID-19 patients into nursing homes (Cuomo, Whitmer...), 40 million unemployed, small businesses made illegal, etc.

Sweden didn't roll the dice. The weighed pros and cons and chose the correct path.

It’s almost like it’s just the flu.
