Trump is playing politics. He's a sucker for a celebrity endorsement and he knows cozying up to a famous rapper will make him more popular with lefties and black people.

Looks like it was a federal charge for possessing weapons while being a convicted felon. He was about to serve a 23 month sentence. Not like the guy killed anyone.

Not thrilled about the pardon but I don't see it as a hanging offense. Maybe Trump owed someone a favor.

He couldn't technically grant him a full pardon, he simply commuted his federal sentence.

He's still serving out the rest of sentence.

You're right actually, it is kind of hypocritical. Brandon pardoning a rapper for a federal gun charge probably would have caused right wing outrage for a few days and the usual circles would have all gotten their clickbait. Orange Face does it and no one seems to mind.

It speaks to the fact that we are judged not only by our actions, but by our intentions. People are willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt if they believe their intentions aren't harmful. The opposite is also true. When people suspect you are out to harm them, they are hypercritical of every move.

Perfect example. Orange Face said the covid vaccine was safe and effective but too many people didn't trust the messenger. A mere few months later Brandon said the vaccine was safe and all of a sudden those same people are in a rush to roll up their sleeve.

Under normal circumstances, no one in their right mind would ever rush to inject themselves with an experimental government vaccine that was rushed to market and then mandated by the higher ups. But because they trusted Brandon, they were willing to let their guard down.
