Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojVerticalNBA 33 minutes ago
The Los Angeles Clippers are nearing agreement on a deal to acquire Orlando's Channing Frye, league sources tell @TheVertical.
Clippers would Lance Stephenson in a deal with Magic, but league sources say Clippers probing another deal elsewhere with Stephenson too.
Clippers could turn back to Orlando and complete Frye deal that would include Stephenson, CJ Wilcox and possibly a future 2nd rounder.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojVerticalNBA 26 minutes ago
Sources: For tonight, Clippers holding back on finalizing Frye deal with Orlando. Clippers plans to give Orlando final word on Wednesday.
Frye remains a significant target for several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell @TheVertical.

Sources: Clippers are working on a bigger deal using Stephenson's contract, but that is a longshot. Most likely scenario still Orlando deal.
Sources: If Frye deal to Clippers goes through on Wednesday, Stephenson would never play a game for Orlando. Magic will waive him.
the above ^^^ is all Woj.

Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
With Frye on the team, it means that Griffin is gone :oldlol:

Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Heard next is Griffin for TT+Shumpert

Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
All of that for Channing Frye, he sucks. Dumbass Doc Rivers and his lackluster GM skills.

Stephenson is cancer. I dont see the problem

:biggums:
A lot of contenders have had interest in frye, he's not rounded but he's one of the better stretch fours in the league when used in that role. Orlando had him doing too much, off the bench as a kick out shooter he's great at spreading the floor.

Doc as a GM is sh#t. What was the point of bringing in these players just to boot them not even a season later. He's done this every season he's been with the Clippers. As a fan I would be tired of his BS. He's awful.

stephenson is trash. orlando is rumoured to waive him if the deal goes through just to dump salary. even orlando doesn't want him

The magic got the better part of that deal. Not sure what you will do with Stephenson. If has his head on straight he's good. C.J. Wilcox never played because Doc doesn't play rookies, etc. But he can shoot. Frye was a waste of space on a team like the Magic. As a role player on a contender he's not a bad pick up.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
A move like this would make up for potentially losing the Harris trade.
Doc doesn't seem to know what's up still, though, so no surprise. Frye needs to play backup C for 18mpg max. If Doc plans to move Blake for Melo and Lance/Wilcox/Brooklyn 2nd rounder for Frye, he's gonna have a worse team.
CP3-JJ-Melo-Frye-DJ
is not going to get them any closer to the WCF.

I doubt he goes tbh
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
apparently the magic are just trying to get a shit ton of cap space. cleveland and clippers and other want frye
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Bulls should go after Lance if/when he's waived. He'd be another ballhandler and would help Jimmy be able to defend lebron in a potential playoff series.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Is Blake for sure gone?
I don't think he will at this deadline, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of CP3/BG/DJ is gone in July.
As bad as Lance usually is, I don't think trading him for a floor spacing backup C is smart for the Clips, considering they are lacking in wings with size who can sorta play on both ends.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
such a stupid move by the clippers. why would you be trying to move your most athletic wing player for channing ****ing frye when youre looking at a 2nd round against warriors?
you cant have enough athletes against them. :facepalm
i like doc a coach, but hes absolute shit as a GM

Why would Orlando waive him?!?!

Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Orlando gonna have massive cap room
Hopefully they can make some noise in free agency

If a stretch 4 is what teams are looking for, why not turn to Phx and trade for Teletovic? Great 3 point shooter, great teammate, and he legitimately intimidates Lebron. Oh, and in the case it doesn't work out, he expires in the summer. Can it get any better?
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Why would Orlando waive him?!?!
Because he isn't Indiana Lance. Besides, why tf would you want him taking minutes from Mario/Fournier/Oladipo?

I dunno why anyone would say that is Stephenson had his head on straight that he'd be good. He had on decent year in Indiana and that's about it. I think he's proven that year was a fluke. I don't think he'll be getting his "head on straight" anytime soon.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
If people still think Lance is good then they're out of touch with his past year and a half with Charlotte and Los Angeles.
Frye isn't on a great contract, but he plays his role well. He's shooting 40% from 3 and gives the Clippers a true stretch PF to play along side.
Doc finally made a good trade for his team and brought in someone who can fit right in.

Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Kind of weird thinking that Tobias Harris and Channing Frye are both cousins and are on the verge of getting traded from the same team in the matter of a day.

Well Frye is going to LA while Harris is going to Detroit, I have a feeling one of them is pretty happy about it.

Low IQ
Locker Room issues
Teammates don't like playing with him
Doesn't shoot the ball well
Tunnel vision
Not a volume scorer
Not a great defender
Iso-Driven
Stat padder

The only real noise Orlando makes in free agency is allowing their best free agents to go to the Lakers.

Pretty much. The risk is not worth the reward.

Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Whatever perceived short end of the stick Orlando got when dealing with Detroit, they will more than make up for by dealing with Doc :oldlol:
And they replace Frye with a better, younger version in Ilyasova. And they get a buttload of cap space.
Have to see where all the pieces fall but not bad so far.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
Didn't know he was still in the league. Why don't they try to get Charlie Villanueva while they are at it.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
I'm down for this. Frye is the perfect third big, and though his contract is meager, the rising cap makes it fine. Plus, it saves the full MLE this summer.
Either way, this is going to be a last resort move, if it even happens.
-
Re: Woj: Clippers close to landing Channing Frye
a complimentary fit next to DJ or Blake. but how will this be different than hawes? or was spencer just a shitty player when he played for the clipps?

Hawes was....terrible.
Terrible to the point I'd take Earl Boykins playing power forward over him.

yeah people are gonna bag on it but i think frye is actually valuable to a lot of teams. there's a reason like 3 contenders are going after him

Reserves likely will be mad overpaid this summer.
