Wow, if the .05% chance of LeBron coming to L.A. doesn't work out, then welcome to the Clips Gay.
I understand why the Jazz would make this move, but I'm really not sure there's a way to spin it to say that it "helped" the Jazz. I thought that's what the organization said? No trades unless it directly helps them on the court

Nets will sign Gay.
For a freakin pick? WTH? While not doing a spectacular job, I thought Brewer was a decent starter for Sloan?
What happened there?? :wtf:

Matthews has come one and he's cheaper....but Idk if this trade is real.
I've seen Brewer around town he seems like a pretty good guy....I watch a lot of Jazz games and minus jumpshooting he is a very solid player.

iam also confused about this
brewer is a damn good defender and is decent offensive player right?
Brewers a great defensive player. Steal for Memphis.
They were still a couple hundred thounsands into the luxury tax AFAIK.
This trade gets them out completely.

gay is just a slightly upgraded version from maggette.

The Jazz are well into the luxury tax and this trade does not get them out completely.
Nets will sign Gay.
I would love to have Rudy Gay if we cannot nab a star Like Wade, Lebron etc
If anyone's curious on the Grizz size - Brewer's a good defender and gets steals without a whole lot of gambling style play. His offense is terrific around the rim and he's quite the finisher. However, his jumpshot is weak. Very weak. In the playoffs last year Bryant just left him open for the entire series and Brewer couldn't hit anything at all.
The Jazz obviously have excess wing players and didn't intend to sign Brewer again this offseason.

What a drop off. From going after Wade and LeBron to getting Rudy Gay..
The Jazz are well into the luxury tax and this trade does not get them out completely.
My fault, just looked it up... yeah, they are still $4M into the luxury.
The Jazz are well into the luxury tax and this trade does not get them out completely.
Yeah, the tax is a little less $70 million and the Jazz are a little over $72 million. This was just to limit the tax hit a little bit.
What a drop off. From going after Wade and LeBron to getting Rudy Gay..
not to mention he'd probably be getting overpaid w/ close to a max deal (ala Iggy)

Yeah, he definitely has Ariza, Iggy, Kevin Martin over paid potential
total steal for memphis. Brewer is a great defender, consistently one of the tops in the NBA in steals, great finishing around the rim..... very solid young player.
The good thing about this is we actually have someone on the bench who can contribute.
And no more Demarre Carrol!
Good deal for Memphis. Watching them last night against my Raptors, we made a huge push in the second quarter when Memphis trotted out a lineup of Marcus Williams, Demarre Carroll, Sam Young, Darrell Arthur, and Zach Randolph. They've got a really nice starting lineup but that bench is pretty bad. Ronnie Brewer is a solid defender and athletic player who will help bring some improvement to the second unit. His jumpshot is pretty shaky though.

on a team like memphis though it wont matter how bad his jumpshot is. This was a VERY nice pick up for the grizzlies, anyone know what pick was?
good pick up for the grizzlies.. definitely a good help to push for the play off spot.. i really dont know why utah dealt brewer over kyle korver i guess no one wants korver's contract... utah may very well be ok with cj miles and matthews... but this would help mephis' second unit...
Brewer for a first round trade? He's worth more than that. I guess Jazz really wanted to be under the luxury tax. This move will affect the Jazz in the playoffs.
i like the Grizzlies. hopefully he can provide a good spark off the bench. or better yet.........OJ as 6th man
I love this.
O'Connor said that was the main factor behind the trade
What a drop off. From going after Wade and LeBron to getting Rudy Gay..
He was really impressive against the Raptors yesterday + he's only 23!!!

Are you really willing to look at these last 2.5 years of commitment and planning and come out with Rudy Gay? If you told me that after we trade Kidd, RJ, Carter, and have to suffer through a historically bad season and at the end of the tunnel we come out with Rudy Gay and John Wall...I'd be pretty disappointed. I'm a big Wall supporter, but we could've gotten him without going through all the muck we are going through.

I'm not certain how you can believe this. Finances didn't play a part in trading Brewer for a protected lottery pick? Of course finances played a part. O'Connor's doing some very blatant lying.
Maybe he's trying to say that Ronnie was an issue behind scenes... I don't know if that's true at all, but maybe?
This trade is bullshit, get rid of cj miles before brewer.....
Grizzlies will make the playoffs this year.
It's about damn time the Grizz got some a player that can contribute off the bench. We have next to nothing on the bench that can contribute night in and night out. Hopefully Brewer, along with Arthur, can provide a nice spark off the bench.
This pick better be F'ING WORTH IT :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
great trade. shame memphis didn't go ahead and ship out carroll too, just for the hell of it, but obviously utah wanted to get under the line.
it feels much better knowing sam young is now the 7th/8th guy off the bench rather than the 6th.

Don't count your chickens yet, we all know how often the team with the worst record actually wins the lotto.

Gay, Wall, Lopez would be a very nice YOUNG nucleus. If we can get someone that can play the 4 with Harris + filler we'll be fine.
If we could somehow get another high lottery pick and draft
Cousins
:pimp:

Exactly my point. I'm not really happy if we did all this, don't get Wall, and end up with Gay.

Personally, as much as Demarcus' beasts, I don't want him. Considering he and Patrick Patterson cannot coexist as big men down low, I don't want to see Brook being forced out further and further from the basket just because he actually has a perimeter shot. I much, much rather have Greg Monroe as he can face up, rebound, and pass.
Do we know what kinda protection is on the pick?
Do we know what kinda protection is on the pick?
Even if its only a lottery protected pick its a good trade for Memphis, especially if they resign him.
