Who knows what the hell he was thinking. Maybe he really disliked San Antonio a lot and just wants to get the hell out of there.

This may allow the Spurs to restructure his contract in a favorable way to the Spurs.
This may allow the Spurs to restructure his contract in a favorable way to the Spurs.
Why would they want him back though? He really didn't seem to fit in with the Spurs. He had a few good games here and there, but overall it just didn't seem like a good fit.
Wow, Spurs just got a $15M gift.
No way he gets a new contract with that kind of salary. Now he's a MLE guy at best.
is this possibly some kind of back deal with the spurs to lure one of the big FA?
He is talented, but I can't see him going to anyone but a lottery team/not a playoff team. His last two years have really put a hurt on his stock.
What does this do to the Spurs cap room this year?
What does this do to the Spurs cap room this year?
Not much. They only will have the Mid-Level to work with only. However it will be much easier to swallow signing Tiago for the full MLE without being in luxury tax territory.
If the Wolves can't get Rudy, maybe they'll make a shot for him
A spurs fan on this board said MAYBE HE WILL OPT OUT and i laughed at him. I don't remember who he was but i apoligize. I also must comment that whatever shit RJ is smoking, he should pass it around, as apparently it's some GOOD shit.
Good luck getting that money back.
Good luck, RJ.
Since this is on Twitter, could it be another false alarm to create excitement??
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW His vaule when to the TANK when he pretty much failed with the Spurs. What a moron. He'll get MLE money at best.
The ramifications of a new CBA has dudes SHOOK. :oldlol:
He will regret this..

You can easily tell the fakes by when the account started twittering.
Spurs' Richard Jefferson Opts Out Of Contract
POSTED: Wednesday, June 30, 2010
SAN ANTONIO -- According to a Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, forward Richard Jefferson has opted out of the last year of his contract.
The 6 feet, 7 inch forward's contract would have guaranteed him $15.2 million.
Jefferson was supposed to be the answer for the Spurs, but just never seemed to find a groove until late in the season.
He averaged just 12.3 points per game, the lowest of his rookie season.

There you go, no more doubts now.

That was a dumb decision by him unless some team (or teams) have showed preliminary interest (tampered)... He's actually a good fit it Miami if they decide to go with Bosh, Wade and splitting the FA money opposed to a third All star.... another place could be a return to New Jersey or to LA (clippers)
but he won't get more than the MLE imo

WOW THANK YOU GOD!!!
Hol Eee Sheet
W H Y
This really hurts the Spurs. This doesn't even open salary cap space for them.
WOW THANK YOU GOD!!!
God loves you over in SA. I have no other explanation. It's freaking incredible.
Wow, Spurs just got a $15M gift.

Amen! Wow what a great day for Spurs fans!

Does not make sense for him, financially.
Here comes the Lebron Spur uni posts  :oldlol: :oldlol: :oldlol:
Does not make sense for him, financially.
Probably not considering he has been having some crappy seasons. Last year he was ok, but he will probably get no more than the MLE for 3 or 4 years. I really don't see a team with cap room throwing money at him since he isn't that great of a player. He must be really unhappy in SA since he left a lot of money on the table.
Amen! Wow what a great day for Spurs fans!
I'm not sure I understand. The Spurs have no cap space to get anyone else. So isn't having Richard Jefferson better than NOT having him, even if he's a disappointment? :confusedshrug: At very least, its an expirer.....
Does not make sense for him, financially.
most of these players have proven over and over again they are closer to down's syndrome than they are average intelligence. The fool is looking around the league thinking he is due a max deal. What a raging idiot.
He actually might be a good fit in Boston

Maybe he got caught up in the rumors about the Nuggets being willing to trade Melo and he thinks he could be his replacement.
deng to the spurs, get it done garpax!!!

Now you are going to get in trouble with Sarah Palin.
He must be really unhappy in SA since he left a lot of money on the table.
This. He probably was just so unhappy he could care less about money anymore. I can't see why else he'd do this. He knows he's only getting 1/2 what he was making at best.

$51 mil after he opted out. That is NOT over the cap.
It'll take him 3 years to make that back...I'm sure the Spurs love it though.
the spurs should be ecstatic they got rid of dick jefferson
this sucks. now the Spurs have a big hole at SF, and they could have used his expiring contract to get some players. Jefferson was disappointing, but he was better than having nothing.
