TRADE: Magic trade Vince, Gortat, Pietrus, pick to Suns for J-Rich, Hedo, E.Clark
The Orlando Magic have acquired Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, a 2011 first round draft selection and cash considerations, President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Otis Smith announced today.
“We’re very excited to welcome these three players to our family,” said Smith. “Jason (Richardson) is a tremendous athlete who runs the floor, can shoot the ball and loves to compete. We’re obviously familiar with Hedo (Turkoglu). He is a great shooter and is a player that has flourished in our system. We liked Earl (Clark) in the draft a few years ago, and he will help fortify our frontcourt. Vince (Carter), Marcin (Gortat) and Mickael (Pietrus) did a lot for our organization and we wish them great success in the future.”

Wow, Orlando really missed Turkoglu. Sucks for Steve Nash, his team has pretty much taken away his consistent scoring option and the future doesn't look too bright. Sure they dump Turk (who they just got lol) and get a true center, but they're gna miss Richardson. Maybe Nash can help VC out and maybe Orlando was just a bad fit. Kinda funny b/c Turk ends up the winner here IMO, he wanted to stay in Orlando but wanted the money more, now he gets both and the Magic pretty much admitted to making a mistake by getting rid of him lol. Richardson will be a great fit at SG for Orlando IMO. I can't see them pulling of the Arenas deal now, unless they're planning on bringing Turk, Richardson or Arenas off the bench. Also if they trade Lewis for Arenas then they lose what made Turk so good in Orlando. Also he did well in Orlando b/c he shared the ball handling duties with Nelson, but with Arenas how would that work?
Seems like a panic move for Orlando IMO

Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
You realize this is just an add-on to the same deal that already has 2 threads on the first page right?
-
Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
I'm pretty sure Magic interest is Richardson, and Suns only do it if they get rid of Turkoglu. I really don't see how Turk is the winner.
-
Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
The winner of that trade is Gortat. He'll finally get some minutes and he'll be fed by Steve Nash. I would think he'd be dying to go to any team that doesn't have a superstar C.

Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
The winner of the trade is Phoenix. Broussard says:
Full deal: Phx sends Hedo/J Rich/Earl Clark to Orlando for Vince/Gortat/Pietrus, 2011 first round pick and cash considerations, sources say
Which is daylight robbery. PHX gets 3 of the best 4 players in the deal, plus a pick, plus cash.

Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
If this trade along with the Arenas for Lewis swap goes down:
PG: Nelson/Duhon/Williams
SG: Arenas/Reddick
SF: Richardson/Anderson
PF: Turkoglu/Bass/Allen
C: Howard/Orton

Orlando front office is just awful.

Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
SUNS
Nash / Gragic
Carter / Pietrus / Childress
G.Hill / Warrick
Frye / Dudley / Lawal
Gortat / Lopez / Barron
Great deal for Orlando, though I don't think they really have improved enough to guarantee playoffs.

Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
its better on paper for the suns looking at it in a vacuum, but that is not how this works.
gortat is giving the magic nothing. he's worthless on their roster. he gives them like 4 points and 5 boards a game in 16 minutes. that is easy to replace. so they lose nothing with him.
vince is awful and plays no defense and is a playoff choker. you'd much rather have hedo than vince in the playoffs. hedo is a much better fit for this team as well.
j-rich is better than pietrus.
so while on paper its better for the suns in a vacuum...the deal is actually great for orlando as well. the magic are trying to win a title, and they just got a lot better for that.
the deal was done because it helps the suns as well. its mutually beneficial.

Same thing I thought too. These are lateral moves for Orlando. Changes for the sake of making changes. They gain a little bit of playmaking I guess with Arenas/Turkoglu.
-
Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
Damn Orlando must have a lot of faith in Bass now b/c they have no bigs left (besides Howard and Bass). Damn I think they almost have to try get a back up big now.
They should try to get Murphy (idk if they have the pieces to though). This probably makes Reddick available (where's he gna play with Nelson, Arenas, Richardson (Jason and Q) and Turkoglu)... He'd be a good fit in Denver, Chicago, New Orleans and a couple of places.
Damn Orlando's owner has deep pockets.
-
Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
So the Suns get Gortat back since they traded his draft rights and they get another pick. Nice!
Gortat wont worry about playing time. He'll be playing immediately.

I disagree. Orlando improved from these moves. They actually have a couple guys who can create their own shot. Lewis and Vince are done.
-
Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
Orlando looks like they got the better deal to me IMO.
J-Rich has been out playing Vince Carter this year, weather that's a product of Nash, who knows, but he's been statistically better then him this year.
Hedo is still a better replacement then Pietrus.
Gortat is a decent player, but I don't see what everyone is so high on the guy.
-
Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
Nash+Vinsanity backcourt=2k AWESOME!
But the Magic definitely got better. Getting Hedo back, adding another wing scorer in J-rich. I could see them flipping J-rich though for some backup bigs or at least one since they lost Gortat.
-
Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
I think people feel its a lateral move because they basically traded for a swingman whos about as good as New Jersey VC. hes still close to 30 with an injury past.
hes playing better than VC, but its not a huge upgrade. consistent scoring and a lil more athletiscm for the next 2 years.
Hedo was a match up nightmare for us last time around, but Garnett, and an improving Davis can offset that.
Not having Gortat will be a blow because thatbig men depth is a BONUS in the playoffs. I imagine they will pick somebody up

He had his best year there, maybe he can go back to being that go. Plus he creates his own shot, which the Magic sorely need. And he can set people up.

I don't understand it either. Anyway, it's reportedly official:
he Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns have reportedly agreed on a trade that includes Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mickael Pietrus, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, Earl Clark, a draft pick and cash. Posted by Ben Golliver.
Earlier today, we noted a report from CBSSports.com's Ken Berger that outlined the developing possibility of a trade between the Orlando Magic and the Phoenix Suns. Yahoo! Sports and ESPN.com are both reporting on Saturday that a deal has been consummated between the two teams.
The Orlando Magic will reportedly send guard Vince Carter, center Marcin Gortat, wing Mickael Pietrus a first round pick and $3 million (the maximum amount allowed in a trade) to the Phoenix Suns for Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark.
For the Magic, they get a proven playoff scoring threat in Jason Richardson and a versatile forward with whom they are familiar in Turkoglu. They also get a heavy burden with Turkoglu's contract and sacrifice depth in the middle with the departure of Gortat.
The Suns immediately address their needs for defense and rebounding with the acquisition of Gortat and shed the remaining years of salary owed to Turkoglu. They also roll the dice on Carter, who is in the final year of his guaranteed contract.
Berger confirms the Suns/Magic trade reports and additionally reports that a trade between the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards sending Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas to the Magic for forward Rashard Lewis is a "done deal."
CBSSports source confirms: Magic get Turkoglu, JRich, Earl Clark from Suns, Arenas from Wizards. "Done deal," CBSSports source says. Wizards get Rashard Lewis, while Suns get Carter, Gortat, Pietrus.
Berger also notes that a source tells him that the Houston Rockets "tried to get in mix for Gortat, with Kevin Martin going to Magic, but couldn't get it done."
The move of Lewis for Arenas is a swap of horrible contracts, but it makes some sense for Orlando as it was going to be difficult to find minutes for Lewis, Turkoglu and the team's two other power forwards, Ryan Anderson and Brandon Bass. The Magic add two scoring threats on the perimeter in Arenas and Richardson, but the trades leave them extremely vulnerable in the middle should anything happen to Dwight Howard.
here's a hint. if dwight howard gets hurt or misses a ton of game time....the magic aren't winning anyway. so who cares if this "leaves them vulnerable in the middle should anything happen to howard"
of course they are screwed if their best player goes down. no kidding.
these deals help the magic immensely. they'll be able to find a way to replace gortat's 16 minutes 4 points 5 boards. don't worry. clark is a decent player with good upside as well. he's 6-10 and could easily produce what gortat was doing in 16 minutes.
Gortat isn't part of the deal.
Is too
-
Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
Richardson gives Orlando a player who can create his own shots and penetrate on defense, something they were sorely lacking.
I think its a pretty solid move for Orlando. If they can also pull off the Arenas trade it will give them an very potent(and less streaky) offensive team, and they'll be a good defensive team as long as Howard is the anchor. Arenas is also a much better defender than Carter.
They will have a pretty small back-court though. Guess it doesn't matter much when Howard is your Center.
-
Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
OKayyyy, so a nash and carter backcourt sounds interesting, hedo can go back to magic he's a scrub to me who can shoot threes.. but Ima miss richardson :(
-
Re: Report: Magic- Suns Trade Almost Done
Like I said earlier, Orlando desperately needs a back up man. JJ Redick and Q Rich are now very available, I assume. Not too many bigs they can get. Closer to the deadline some new names will be available, but considering how many other teams also need big men, I can't think of a trade that would really net them a decent big.
Maybe if Sheed comes back from retirement, but that's a long shot. Is it time for an Antoine Walker? lol

I feel like this trade could go either way for Phoenix. Vince might have a reniassance in PHX, like a lot of vets have, and Gortat plays up to his potential becoming a good defensive/rebounding center and Nash makes him looks great on offense. OR VC continues to decline and Gortat looks like a stiff with true minutes.
I think Orlando knows what they're getting out of this deal.
-
Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
Why do people keep bringing this up as if it's a positive thing?
Because Turk didnt get worse since he left Orlando, he just got exposed. He should still play well in the Magic system.
ok my thoughts on this, hmmmm....
Vince and Rashard are both washed up. I hate to say it, I'm a huge fan of Vince and loved hearing he was coming to Orlando 2 years ago, but the guy has been a bust. He shows flashes of his former self here and there but in general, he just isnt the guy he was, and we shouldnt have expected him to be, it wasnt fair on him.
Rashard has never been the same since he was suspended for PED's. I'm not saying that has anything to do with it, but its a fact. I like Lewis though, I've enjoyed his time in Orlando, I wont miss his play this year or that massive contract though.
Pietrus. I LOVE this dude. Yes, he is a chucker, but once he gets hot, holy shit, he can burn you for 15 points in like 6-7 minutes! I'll miss him, although this year again, has to be his worst since being in a Magic uniform.
Gortat. Same thing, horrible year, but once he gets starters minutes he will either become the guy alot of people think he can be and the guy the Suns desperately need him to be, OR he'll be the overrated, foul prone guy that he was 90% of the time that he started when Howard was absent. I think Orlando will definitely miss him the most though, as a backup he was great, as a starter, I'm not convinced, yet. Good luck to him though.
Turk. If he can come in and do what he used to, I'm happy. I hated when he left and I'm glad he's back, if he has fallen off though, thats not good, at all, he'll be untradable with that deal.
Jason Richardson. Have no idea, havent paid attention to him, I've no idea what he brings, or what type of player he is, can anybody clue me in on his strengths and weaknesses? Same with Earl whoever.
Gilbert. The wildcard. If the guy's knee plays up and we have another Grant Hill on our hands, we're in the shit, no question about it. If he can come in, find his own shot, be an offensive spark and give up 20PPG, thats double what we are getting from Lewis, we need scorers.
Its all on paper right now so who knows what it will play out like, with team chemistry, injuries, stuff like that. We'll see, but Orlando were in a funk and sadly, as people have been saying, wherent contending this year so was it desperation? Maybe, but whats worse, desperation move that doesnt make you any worse, or standing still and just letting yourself lose games?

Carter Nash should be fun to watch on the fast break.
-
Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
Magic are a better team after this deal. Vince/Lewis are done and Gortat is a backup C who plays 12 minutes a game. Who gives a shit/.

Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
This is starting to look like a defensive disaster for Orlando... not that VC and Shard were good defenders but wow.

This exactly. And that's all teams liike orlando, denver, new orleans, and cleveland ever do. All have a player that's capable of leading a team to a championship. And all these teams do is get has beens or solid role players. And the sad thing is that they have a blue print to follow. You must have two players capable of leading a team as the best player. Two players that are really good, and role players. They always det the role players and the really good players, but never get that number 2 guy that's capable of leading a team.
I really don't blame lebron for leaving or carmello for wanting to leave. And I wouldn't blame howard and paul if they did likwise.

Re: TRADE CLOSE!: Suns may trade J-Rich, others to Magic for Vince Carter, others
Great trades for both teams. PHX really isn't anything anyway so they get bigger and get VC. The Magic really improve. Good for them.
