Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
i dont think it would be in the best interest of the nba to promote him as the face, he doesnt have that swagger and attitude like the other faces, such as lebron, kobe, jordan etc. He wont be able to generate controversy, big headlines like those of the past. Even if he wins a title, i think it would be best for stern to continue to promote lbj

Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
NBA can keep its precious poster boys with all their supposed charisma and swag and w/e the **** it is that the likes of LeBron and Blake Griffin have. I will be content with Durant having everything else :lol

Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
The NBA doesn't need a "face". Just play ball.
-
Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
No, he kisses his mom on the lips LOL!
Kobe r*pes women and ppl want bad boy types.
-
Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
imo, he comes across as a high-character, humble, guy (compared to certain other superstars).
He would be an ideal face of the NBA. Betcha Stern is already working with ESPN to put together all kinds of hype....new version of the Heat Index, etc
-
Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
he's humble as shit, people can relate to him on another level than lebron/kobe
-
Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
he's an a-hole. He walked off the court to kiss his family when the game was still not over. He holds the mic and sits back instead of leaning forward to speak, how lazy is that mofo?
He takes shots instead of passing to Goatbrook. He shoots far too often in the 4th instead of passing to his teammates. He has all these tattoos. He drives a pedo van. worst of all, he went to Texas, ugh.
if the NBA is promoting this guy, it is in trouble. In 3 years, he will have 5 kids with 6 different baby mommas, book mark this shit
no, he's awesome, I love and hate him at the same time, kinda like Dirk or Timmy Duncan

Not sure if serious....???
Lebron James has got to be one of the most unattractive players in the history of the NBA.

No, but America's gonna stroke itself raw with a "humble" superstar over the arrogance of Lebron and Kobe.

kevin durants gonna be the next tim duncan
and westbrook will be kobe
(personality wise)

Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
ideally he is cause he's not a brand driven ego maniac, but thats exactly why he can't be the face of the NBA
-
Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
Johan Petro will gladly claim that title.
Kevin Durant is just here to play ball. He doesn't care about the flashy lights like other players do. At the end of the day it's all about winning. Everybody appreciates his demeanour anyways. Having swag is cool but it's really about putting the ball in the basket, helping your team win then going home.
Plus KD is not all sweet and innocent. He is an off the court rapper too and curses in his raps.:oldlol:

Isn't KD getting his own movie? (ala MJ in Spacejam) He's definitely marketable, has the personality and no ego. He'd be a much better face of the league compared to Bron. :confusedshrug:

Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
The league has been pushing KD for the last three years. Now -- finally -- there's no problem with that because the results on the court are matching the hype in the playoffs.

Lebron looks like a 50 year old man, and Kobe looks like an alien with an overbite. I'm sure the league will survive the looks of Durant, acne and all.

Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
He will never be the face of the NBA. He has no charisma and plays for a farm town. Not saying he can't be the best player in the NBA. But he just has no appeal. Shaq had personality, Kobe was flashy, Lebron puts up video game numbers, etc. Tim Duncan was the best player in the NBA at different times and he was never really marketed as the face of the NBA. But who cares? All that matters to him is winning a championship, im sure.

No homo, but Kobe is probably one of the better looking players in the league. Im probably going to get flamed for saying that, but I don't think are many other NBA players that could be on the cover of GQ.

I get what you're saying Silk. Keep in mind that Durant's still developing into his "Manhood" also. Like Jordan, he may be a late bloomer who'll come into his own in his late 20s/early 30s. Certain guys, like Westbrook, get there earlier than others (he bears a striking resemblance to my oldest nephew). But yeah, Durant will remind older fans of their grandsons, and peeps my age will see him as the little brother who you wish the best for.

Nah, Kobe's a legitimately good looking dude. Nearly all of my female friends (of various races) think he's very attractive and always point it out whenever he's mentioned.
However, Lebron on the other hand, I rarely hear chicks talk about him or his looks.

I think Kobe has some swag that works for him :lol Don't think he's a bad looking dude. Shaq and Duncan were the face of the NBA for a long time and they aren't exactly handsome fellas haha so yea I think Durant could certainly handle it. And one thing I have noticed about Durant too is that he has become a lot better spoken when interviewed. When he first started he sounded very monotone and didn't say much. But now he sounds a lot more confident and gives good thought out answers when he wants to. He's still not no Captain Charisma but he's no slouch on the Mic.

Yea although I think MLB has always been more about the teams rather than the NBA where it's more about the star players. The only house hold names I can think of at the moment would be a couple yankees like A-Rod and Jeter. And Josh Hamilton has gained a lot of fame last couple years. Other than them you are right not a lot of house hold names.

I see Derrick Rose being the new face of the league more than Durant.

Well, like every Generation, there's usually a few "Faces of the League", or a counter to the "Main" face of the League.

Re: Does Kevin Durant have the charisma and personality to be the face of the NBA?
Rose, Durant and LeBron will probably continue to share the general title of "face of the NBA". There is no single, dominant presence in basketball anymore... comparable to a Shaq, prime Kobe, or Jordan.
While LeBron racks up the individual stats to argue his case, his team shortcomings in two Finals appearances, in addition to the "love him or hate him" stigma that follows him around, discredit him considerably. Rose's injury places doubt on his future for anything. While I'm sure he bounces back, there's always a slim chance he could wind up like Grant Hill: groomed for NBA greatness but decimated by injuries.
Durant would seem the most likely candidate, if one individual had to be chosen. The 'quiet' thing isn't exactly the most marketable personality type, but it's not impossible. Bird was comparable to Durant in a variety of ways: reserved, stayed out of the public eye. Both kept to themselves, but were tirelessly competitive.
Obviously, Bird had a mean streak a mile long and a mouth like a sailor, too... so there are clear demarcation lines drawn between the two. Point is: the NBA has marketed less-than-ideal personalities before and can do it again.
