Top 10 NBA Franchises all-time

How would you rank them? we keep ranking players over and over, but forget this is a team sport...


Personal ranking , top 5 only
1 - Lakers - 16 titles, missed playoffs only 5 times in 65 years
2 - Celtics - 17 titles, despite 1 more title then the lakers...you would rank them behind due to the fact celtics had some many bad years lakers never had.
3 - Chicago Bulls - 6 titles, Jordan era
4 - San Antonio Spurs - 4 titles, Think only team who had something like 10 years now consecutively winning more then 50 games ( last 10 years speaking)
5 - Philadelphia 76ers - 3 titles


how would u rank others?

Boston, Lakers and Chicago are indisputable top 3, i guess the Spurs are locked at the four spot. I dont know about the rest. Nobodys done anything as noteable as these four. Lakers and Boston matter of opinion for number 1, Chicago #3, Spurs #4.

SAS is a class franchise with winning tradition.

CHI is a PATHETIC franchise that deliberately destroyed 7th ring chances.

SAS cares about their all-timers be it Duncan, D'rob etc etc.

CHI is a selfish, hate filled franchise that dont want their all-timers anywhere close to franchise's success.


Both franchises may have 100% winning record in NBA finals

BUT

SAS is just better franchise overall.


No superstar for long time ever wanted to play for CHI after 1998 especially if you are Kevin Garnett or T-mac.

The Sixers had several memorable, iconic eras. They might not have won as much, but I'd put them in the top three over the Bulls and the Spurs, who's greatest eras are linked to one player.

i think spurs > bulls as well.

I also think pistons is defo choice for top 10.The heat are definetly getting there too, if they are not already too.They have 2 titles.

I agree with this. Sixers dont get a lot of love, but from the 60s to the 80s this team was right there with LAL and Boston. Franchise has never been the same since they traded Moses though. They had Wilt in the 60s, DrJ in the 70s, and Moses in the 80s. Then they had Barkley and Iverson during their primes who are really polarizing athletes that will be remembered for a while.

The Bulls are pretty much all Jordan, I don't see the franchise itself as anything special. I'd put the Spurs over them. I think the team has had one losing season in like 30 years? George Gervin, D-rob, Duncan.

I think the Heat are top 5 too despite being a young franchise. Pat Riley has built 3 completely different contenders since he came over in the 90s. Mourning-Hardaway, Wade-Shaq, and now LeBron and co.

Hawks should be in consideration, they were always in the title hunt and got one with Petit and Wilkens.

I'd put the Pistons about the Bulls and the Spurs. Pistons have been competitive and won championships in multiple eras. Bulls and spurs are dynasties relegated to one particular period of time and have been irrelevant at all other times.

Heat > Bulls. Owned them in 2011 and owning them this year too. Other than Jordan Bulls history is terrible. Heat have been an elite NBA franchise apart from their first few years as an expansion team.

The Celtics 9-3 record against the Lakers is actually an advantage for the Lakers and makes the Lakers the GOAT Franchise. Here is why, 9-3 Celtics in the Finals means that the Lakers won 13 of their Titles when Boston did not even win their conference, while Boston won 9 of their Titles while the Lakers won their conference.

10 more Finals appearances is a huge difference though. 10 years, that is an entire decades worth.

Just gonna point out that Czechoslovakia isn't a country anymore and that modern Czechs and Slovaks aren't exactly living without electricity,cars, etc.

And basketball was already growing worldwide. Guys like Olajuwon, Kukoc, Divac, Petrovic, Sabonis, Bol all played basketball before Jordan's domination of the league.

I agree but consistent standards have to be maintained when doing an evaluation. one criteria cant not be applied in one case and neglected in another

This...Plus the fact that the Sixers had two(2) of the best ever 1 season teams of all time, the 1967 Wilt led team, and the 1983 Doc and Moses team that overwhelmed the NBA by winning 50 of it's first 57 regular season games then going 12-1 in the playoffs.

Yeah they have the 4th highest winning percentage all-time in the league only behind the Lakers, Celtics, and Spurs, whom most people consider to be the top 3 franchises in the league. That has to count for something. They just win games. When you consider the fact that they've been around since the 1960's, that shows you just how consistently good of a team they've been over the years.

Sure they haven't won any championships yet, but championships are overrated, especially old championships that barely any modern fans were alive to remember. What the hell is a championship to you if you don't remember it happening? Championships ARE a great memory though, sure, but people act like nothing matters BUT them. I don't know about those guys, but I enjoy watching wins on a regular basis. I'd much rather watch a team that rarely ever has losing seasons than a team that has a losing all-time record and struggles to get winning seasons but won a championship(s) decades ago when I probably wasn't even alive yet or was too young to remember it.

I feel more spoiled as a Suns fan than I'd be if I were, say, a Knicks fan. I'd keep all of the winning Seasons the Suns have consistently had over the years compared to 2 NBA championships in the early 70s when I wasn't born but sucking consistently the majority of most decades since then. lol If a team averages 0.600 over the course of 10 years compared to a team averaging 0.400 over the course of 10 years, that's 164 extra games that the fans of the 0.600 team got to enjoy over those years. That's 164 more nights that the fans went to sleep with a smile on their face.

Anyways, the Suns definitely have had some serious bad luck over the years when it comes to their championship caliber teams. They were 1 clutch 3-point shot by John Paxton away from sending MJ's GOAT Bulls team to a Game 7 in Phoenix in the 1993 finals. That's way more impressive than a lot of teams finals who won the championship. For example, the 2007 Finals which the Suns would've easily swept just like the Spurs if it weren't for Tim Donaghy and the refs trying to fix the game for the Spurs then Diaw and Stoudemire getting suspended in the WCF over some stupid shit that Robert Horry instigated, when the Suns had the momentum before the stupid suspensions.
